So the thought of heading north with my family came with high expectations. The summer heat was already turned up high, and the vegetation was already turning brown. The hope was to be able to go to a place where our family could cool down, relax, and get refreshed. Not knowing what to expect from this house and location (other than the pictures), we were guardedly optimistic. From the moment we arrived and stepped in the home, our expectations were exceeded. The Home: The home has PLENTY of room. Three large bedrooms were more than ample for our family of five. The living room has a large picture window that provides an incredible view of the bay. The kitchen was just right. We brought food and cooked most of our dinners at the home. Two eating areas provide either a screened in "outdoor" experience or a nice "eat and play some board games" end to a great day. It is very clean, has plenty of amenities (large laundry room, whirlpool tub, etc...), and provides a great walk-out to the lake in the back. Great WiFi also provides you with a link to the outside world - if you so choose. It provides enough of a homey feel but also a nice resort-like retreat from the hustle and bustle of life. There's More: So, the home alone would be well worth the trip. Then, there are the charming towns! My family lugged our bikes on the trip - and it was WELL worth it! We usually took a bike ride on the great paths - just a few hundred feet from the home - in the morning for exercise. In the evening, we visited the towns for dessert. Nisswa was our favorite - especially the Chocolate Ox!!! What a charming ice cream and candy shop with a very nostalgic feel. There is also great shopping, other restaurants, and a nice town museum. In the summer, there are town events such as turtle racing which make for a great mid-week adventure. The experience superseded our expectations - both the home and the atmosphere, and the great surrounding towns provided icing to a marvelous cake. We would wholeheartedly recommend this Lake Home and are confident your experience will be similar to ours!

A slice of heaven on the lake!
A slice of heaven on the lake!
The pictures do not do this place justice. I was just thrilled to find such a roomy, sparkling clean and pleasant place when we walked in the air conditioned "cabin". See in California, we would call this a no-holds-barred HOUSE and a gorgeous one at that. I was concerned when I read that there were only air conditioners upstairs, but upstairs is the main floor and the a/c was plenty cool on the miserably hot days we were there. The downstairs remained comfortable even without a/c since it is mostly underground anyway. The lake is just lovely. Unfortunately the only public put-in can't accommodate larger rigs so my brother couldn't get his 22 ft pontoon on the lake. We did manage to get a couple of short fishing boats in, though and my group fished out bluegill, bass, catfish and fish my nieces call pumpkins. The kids floated around on floaties all day and snorkeled and net-fished off the dock as well. This house is generally handicapped-accessible inside. Just before arriving I tore the ligaments in my foot so was crutches-bound. I had full access to the kitchen, bath, bedroom, living room and porch with no stairs. Darn, I couldn't run up and down and do laundry so I had to assign someone else to that task. Getting to the water was quite a trick but it was so hot I just sat in the big comfy king chair pointed at the lake and watched them enjoying themselves from the comfort of the amazing picture window. (The same picture window at which we watched the Pequod fireworks display 7/3 - It was low over the lake but we could see a ton of it and not get eaten by skeeters.) Beautiful home and we're already discussing how soon we can come back.

This lake home gets an A+ for convenient location. Nisswa shopping is 3miles south and an entrance onto the northern end of Gull Lake is only a few miles away. The ice on West Twin Lake kept us from fishing but we enjoyed the view from the lakeside swing. We were there for a quiet couples get away but we can imagine coming back for a family reunion. The common areas were roomy and the kitchen is updated. There are really good restaurants close by. Next time we come we would plan to bike on the nearby Paul Bunyan Trail and FISH.
