Balboa Island house description
Balboa Island is an ideal location for a vacation or an extended summer retreat.
Sightseeing: Disneyland and Knott's Berry Farm are approximately twenty miles and Laguna Beach is seven miles from the island. Less than one block from our home is the island beach, and three blocks away is the ferry with a short five minute ride to Balboa Peninsula offering mainland beaches and sites. Some of these are the Catalina Flyer to Catalina Island, Fun Zone, Balboa Pier, boat rentals, harbor cruises, bike rentals, many restaurants, and a beach bike/walking path that extends approximately 20 miles.
Shopping: Marine Avenue on the island has many boutique shops and restaurants. There are also restaurants on the island close to the ferry. Fashion Island, a lovely outdoor mall is only one mile and South Coast Plaza, a very large shopping mall with designer shops is seven miles. There are two small markets on the island, a large grocery market within walking distance, and a Bristol Farms market near Fashion Island.
Entertainment and The Arts: The Laguna Beach Pageant of the Masters and art festival is an annual summer event in Laguna Beach. Near South Coast Plaza is the Segrestrom Center for the Arts and the South Coast Repertory which offer live performances. Both Newport Beach and Laguna Beach have Art Museums. There are of course many many outstanding restaurants to choose from.

About the owner: Carol and Al were raised in Nebraska and were High School classmates . Both graduated from USC where Al attended on a basketball scholarship. They were married after the sophomore year at USC. Following college, Carol had a brief career in teaching and Al began working for Deloittes where he became a partner, followed by 10 years as an executive with an oilfield service company, followed by many investment banking activities, from which he retired in 2010. In support of Al's career, they have lived in Manhattan Beach CA, Falls Church VA, Corona del Mar CA, Houston TX, and Portland OR before moving to Balboa Island to retire. Favorite activities are travel, exercise, reading and golf.

Balboa Island provides an outstanding upbeat community atmosphere in the midst of a large population center, access to almost unlimited entertainment activities, excellent year-around weather, and proximity for us to many of our life-long friends. Also, it is a location that we were able to validate through years of renting on the Island and living, for 5 years, in the nearby community of Corona del Mar .
