An Oasis in a wonderful city! We have stayed in this home on several occasions and everything about it is marvelous. After sight-seeing or visiting the grandkids we can return to almost rural quietness and beauty within minutes. The home is a treasure with delightful modern conveniences. The beds are extremely comfortable and kitchen amenities everything we need. Best of all we can have the grandkids overnight, bake cookies with them, play in the backyard or park and walk a short way for early morning coffee. And the nearby restaurants make our romantic evenings alone magical. We plan to return soon! I have to say that this house is nicer than photos could depict. Various family members of mine have stayed in this home on various occasions for different periods of time, all having wonderful experiences. The two bathrooms and kitchen are really spectacular. It is a large home with a nice yard. I had a semi-formal catered party at the home and have attended other, more casual, parties there. It can easily entertain 50 or more people. The catering was arranged beautifully by the owner. Parking is on site (a rare commodity). A major transportation line (the NJudah MUNI) is less than a block away and others are nearby. This home is near a number of interesting and inexpensive casual restaurants, a park, unique shops, and a major pharmacy store. I can recommend this home as both a "home away from home" and for parties.Recommended for: Sightseeing, tourists without a car, girls getaway, families with young children, adventure seekers, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with teenagers.

About the owner: I'm a long-time resident of San Francisco, and can't imagine living anywhere else. The city is the perfect combination of high-tech and low-key, a place that breeds creativity and community for everyone who lives here. Through my job I've seen every corner of the city, and am always looking for new cuisine, a trail to run, or a path to cycle. I have a great community of friends that also value the city as a place to live, work and raise a family. I’m a seasoned traveler with an eye for what makes a destination distinctive and sophisticated. I live in the moment, and look at each trip as a chance to live, grow and learn. I’m an active triathlete, always with my eye on the prize. I see in each destination how it can be seen on foot, by bike or in the water. I’m not afraid to dive in.
Why the Owner Chose Castro:
San Francisco is on so many people's must-see list that it seemed a no-brainer to give visitors a chance to stay and play where locals do. I would much rather stay at a bed and breakfast, rather than a cavernous hotel, and really have strived to create that feeling of home, where your pied-a-terre is as familiar as your own home.
The neighborhood is right in the middle of the city, with easy access to the Golden Gate Bridge, the Ferry Building, Fisherman's Wharf, but also to hidden gems that you won't always find in a guide book. It's near shopping, a park, and lots of great restaurants, among historic homes and quintessential architecture.
The Unique Benefits at this House:
One of my favorite things about this house is the kitchen, which I painstakingly remodeled in 2004. I wanted a room that was state-of-the-art, but still warm and friendly - a gathering place in the house. With the dining room adjacent, entertaining is easy and fun - you get to host, but also mingle at the same time.
Another area I've come to love is the backyard. Yards are a rarity in the denser parts of San Francisco, and it not only lets you escape from all things urban, but is a great place for dogs and children to hang out. It's a bit like the Rabbit Hole in Alice in Wonderland - you emerge into a space of magic and whimsy.
