This place is wonderful. I am a hard working person and I look for places to relax when I have the time. This is just the place. The views…. The amenities…the fireplace… the PEACE. Do yourself a favor …..
Owner response:It's so rewarding to us as owners when guests find Spinnaker Waterfront to be that special place to return to over and over again to step back from our hectic everyday lives and truly relax. Thank you for sharing! The Hutchings

We stayed at Spinnaker House for Pony Penning Week, July, 2011. Could not have picked a more perfect spot to stay during the island’s busiest week of the year! After all the excitement and energy of Pony Swim/Pony Parade Day, Spinnaker House was a quiet and cool retreat to return to at the end of the day! The house easily accommodated our family of three and another couple and their son. Though the island has many fine places to dine, we preferred to gather in the dining room for simple home made meals and much laughter. Having all the modern conveniences of home really did make it a vacation for all, including the Moms! The mornings were the best part. To watch the sun rise from either the screened porch or the living room window. The gulls wheeling and calling, the water in the inlet behind the house changing hue with the light and the tide. We drove from Texas to enjoy the many charms of Chincoteague, VA and we’re so glad we had Spinnaker House as our home away from home.

We would highly recommend this property to future renters. The house was very clean and welcoming. The owner/keepers were very helpful and personable in answering questions before, during, and after our stay. The views were breathtaking, peaceful, and surreal. We enjoyed all outdoor water activities to the fullest...kayaking, paddleboarding,, fishing, crabbing, and clamming. The mosquitos were a nuissance, although the rest of the trip made up for the hassle. There are many steps into and out of the house and throughout. I would not recommend this home to a family with small children or people with ambulation difficulties. Overall, this property gets an A+!

For some reason this comment only showed up on the Guestbook on our website, so I've copied it for posting here: "We stayed at the Spinnaker Waterfront Vacation Home in Chincoteague, VA from June 11th trough June 18th - me, my wife, my mother, brother and my three great nephews. We were only an hour and fifteen minutes away from home but being in this home on the island was like being in another world. We were comfortable the place is spacious and the views from the windows decks and porch are amazing. There's a dock out front where we went swimming, rafting, fishing and crabbing from and with my three nephews, who are always looking for something to do, they had no problem with exploring the waters edge netting little shrimp and other critters. Now of course they want to go back! We caught a half bushel of crabs and some oysters the first day we stayed and cooked up an absolute seafood feast in the fully equipped kitchen. So I would say if you want a best location on Chincoteague Island, the Spinnaker Waterfront Home is by far the best. Jack J, Delmar, MD

We all enjoyed our time at Spinaker House. Every thing we needed was provided. The house was clean and comfortable. Some days we went out to eat and other days we utilized the kitchen. The house is just a short drive to town and the beach which we all took advantage of each day. Loved seeing the wild poines, swimming in the ocean, eating fresh local sea food and great ice cream. Spinaker is a great place for families and groups of friends to kick back and relax.

Spinnaker, with its close proximity to Chincoteague National Wildlife Refuge and Seashore, is a beautiful quiet spot for a late winter getaway. This was our first trip to Chincoteague Island and we couldn't of been happier with our accommodations. The house was clean and comfortable with beautiful views of the water. Watching the sunrise from the dining room, was a perfect way to start the day. Temperatures were too cold to be able to enjoy the screened in porch, but we did make use of the fireplace. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Spinnaker to family and friends, and it is definitely a place I plan to return to.

Our time at the Spinnaker house was wonderful. It was a true retreat and greatly needed. The house is wonderful with water views from practically every room. We vacationed with our three kids and my mother in law. There was plenty of space for everyone! The house was well appointed and came with many extras such as sundries, a well equipped kitchen, books, dvds, and games. The kids and I would walk around the property by the dock nightly and would gaze at the wonderful night sky filled with millions of visible stars. Truly extraordinary. There was a cord of wood ready for our use and we did make good use of it. Every night we relaxed by the fire and the kids enjoyed toasting marshmellows. The beach which is in a nearby national park was also wonderful. The town is truly unadulterated without a chain restaurant in site. It was nice to step away from the commercial if only for a few days. We were at the Spinnaker for Presidents Day weekend and the weather was wonderful. Clear, crisp, and sunny. None of us wanted to leave and we look forward to returning soon. Overall it was a memorable experience for all. Thank you!

We had a Great vacation at Spinnaker House. One of the nicest rental properties we have stayed at over the years. We enjoyed the screened porch and watching the geese, etc. We also enjoyed the quiet nights with no noise other than a "flyover" from a seagull. A really nice house. All of the windows made even the gloomiest day very pleasant. We have been coming to the Island since the Early 80's, with our kids. Now that we're retired and no kids to tag along , we've enjoyed it even more [although we do do love our children] ---but Mom & Pop have to get away at least once a year.--ha..We will definitely be coming back.. We got back yesterday evening from a memory filled Memorial Day Holiday with three nights at Spinnaker, one of the loveliest rental properties I have ever stayed in with my son and his family including four children. Everything was "clean as a whistle" which tells you my age. The kitchen was filled with beautiful dishes, pots and pans and bowels and every gadget you can imagine, all kinds of spices, sugar, coffee, you name it. All you had to do was bring in was mayo, bread, lunch meat and you were all set. I had mentioned this was a total surprise for my family and we found a beautiful cake on the dining room table with "Surprise" written on it and a fresh flower arrangement in the living room. The views were "to die for". I could have just sat on the screened porch with my cup of coffee and not gone anywhere. The memory the children will carry with them forever is the opportunity to use the crab pots provided for our use. They had hours of fun and also learned how to tell a male from a female crab, as well as how to cook and crack them. I highly recommend the Chincoteague Island area as a vacation destination especially if you have children or grandchildren. They will love it and you will too!

We stayed at Spinnaker over the President's Day weekend in February 2008. The weather was cold but perfect. We appreciated the touch of fresh flowers waiting for us. The views were great, the accommodations were very nice, and the overall trip was enjoyable. We will definately consider staying here in the future.

10-05-07 I have just arrived in this house and it is almost nine at night .... It was a 3 hour drive from Annapolis, MD and it is my firt time coming. My mom has been here before and she claims it was wonderful. My name is Stirling, the ten year old fifth grade, son of Kimrey mom) and Marty (dad, deceased) and I hope to write in this journal everyday until I leave. It is dark now so I can't see that much of the land, yet from what I do see, I'm sure by morning it will have blossomed into a beautiful landscape. I will write in this again tomorrow, oh yes .... thank you for the gorgeous flowers -- to Pat and Harmen 'Stirling 10-6-07 I have just woken up and the visions filling my head I cannot believe. Although I haven't experienced the full beauty and I will write later today, describing it - Stirling 10-6-07 I have just gotten back from a twelve mile bike trip, then the ocean and now I'm reading my new book. I have had a great time and I am leaving, Monday, which is such a shame. I will write again tomorrow. - Stirling 10-7-07 I have just gotten back from a great beach and 8 mile paddle in a kayak. There were turtles and fish everywhere and the beach was nothing but shells, oyster shells, conch shells, moon, snail shells, all types of shells ! We have been doing great things this whole time, and I will write again tomorrow the day I have to leave. - Stirling 10-8-07 I am leaving today and I want to say goodbye. I am going to breakfast, then a couple of shops, then leaving. Goodbye Shincoteague!

Our Spinnaker Thanksgiving was one to remember. Hard to tell who enjoyed it the most - the adults or the grandkids! Since we've been home, there isn't a day that goes by that our 4 year old granddaughter doesn't talk about returning. Next time she wants to stay for "13 days." Thanks, Pat, for providing such a wonderful place to visit. We intend to return soon and build more wonderful memories. The Murphys

I rented Spinnaker the weekend of Feb. 17th for a VERY special occasion.....the first meeting of someone I had been corresponding with for months. While we knew so much about each other already, we had never met face to face....so the location needed to be perfect. I could not have chosen a more perfect "start" to our "forever" story. Even though it was just the two of us, the home was so cozy. During the stay, it was incredibly cold, but we thoroughly enjoyed the wonderful fireplace....Mrs. B made sure we had plenty of firewood! The house is tastefully decorated and furnished with all the "comforts of home." The owners even had a very special cake waiting for us when we arrived, and shortly afterward an arrangement of flowers arrived. Even though it was the dead of winter, many shops were open, so we ventured out and took in the "sights." A warm fireplace, the beautiful scenery, some good wine, hand-picked DVD's, and some slow dancing in the great room....it was like a fairy tale for me. My now "significant other" could not believe the trouble that we all went to to make this weekend special. Needless to say, this house, and those involved with it, are responsible for me relocating soon to be with my "honey." Thanks to all who made this possible!!!! Spinnaker will forever remain close to our hearts, and we look forward to returning! Deb and Bill

My family and I spent Thanksgiving together at Spinnaker this year. It was a perfect house for our family to share for the holidays. We each enjoyed our own bedroom, but more importantly loved the large open den and dining room areas to be together as we had much catching up to do. We had a fantastice time riding bikes around the wildlife drive and to the beach. We were happy to have the internet connection as some had to work to do. Everyone enjoyed the big screen TV for the football games. We can't wait for our next visit. We hope to make it back in the summer so the kids can swim and make sand castles at the beach!

We have been renting homes in Chincoteague for 11 years now, and Spinnaker is definitely a favorite! The host family could not have been more gracious. A cake was provided for our dad's 80th birthday, as well as a lovely bouquet of flowers. When we inquired about the availability of a crockpot, the family bought one for our use. Although it was December, the time was perfect. Snow geese and Great Blue Heron were migrating, and we enjoyed the Christmas parade for the second year! FUN! The house and the view are simply gorgeous...we'll definitely be back!

I could write a book, but I won't. The short week end I spent at Spinnaker with my friends was the most enjoyable, peaceful, tranquil place I could have ever imagined. It was magical, with the sunrises and the full wonderful moon. The house was beautiful with everything anyone could want. I was always up early and enjoyed hearing the fish jump out of the water. The most and best I could say is, I WILL BE BACK. Thank you for allowing me the priveledge to stay and hopefully return. Pam Brower, Safety Harbor, Florida

We spent Memorial Day weekend at Spinnaker with another family and we had a blast. The mom's christened the canoe (we brought along) by taking it out for sunrise on Oyster Bay. It was breathtaking to be out on the water and see the day truly begin! The kids canoed, kayaked, crabbed and fished. We spent Sunday at Assateague and the weather was great for a picnic and barbecue. On Monday we spent most of the day biking the trails on Assateague. Spinnaker is in a great location and as others have mentioned, it has the perfect design for vacationing! We all hope to return again!

My family had the delightful experience of spending four days at Spinnaker during mid May 2005. The house and location were even more amazing than the brochure and pictures online. We will definitely go back! It happened to be my husband's birthday during our stay--a surprise birthday cake awaited him upon our arrival! This was the first family getaway weekend where everyone in the family agreed that "mom" had picked a winner! I would highly recommend a stay (as long as possible!) at Spinnaker.

The place was very well kept, clean, roomy, very confortable. Thanks you very much for the Crab cages, they worked caught 12 crabs. Overall I would recommend Spinnaker to my friends. Note: you should upgrade the informantion on your brochure, it's a bit outdated. There are many features in spinnaker and the surrounding area that have been added that are not in the brochure example there are more than one ATM and quite a few shops and so on.

The home was comfortable yet spacious enough for our 3 kids. The view of the water from the house created a peaceful atmosphere. The new kitchen had everything we needed for my husband's gourmet cooking. The 2 story family room was so airy and light filled that even though we were inside, we felt as though we were enjoying the outdoors. The house was close to miniature golf which is always a big hit with the kids. There is also a great ice cream shop nearby where we enjoyed an ice cream dinner one night. I would recommend the house. It is well taken care of and has all the little details you need.

My sweetheart and wife had a significfant birthday, and I was looking for a place worthy of the occasion. Spinnaker looked good on the web site. In making arrangements on phone and via email, Pat had me feeling like family. I was liking the house before seeing it. The cottage looked great on first impression. As this was a surprise, Colleen, the guest of honor, had no expectations. I installed us in the master suite; she had us move to the loft bedroom. It wasn't just cool for kids. The loft is just cool. Next morning, I rolled over to get a photo of the sunrise. It was glorious. And I rolled back to sleep. It's a great photo. Spinnaker was terrific in all respects. And Pat's hospitality was over the top. To be perfectly honest, we didn't get to the beach. We didn't leave the house much. In early March the house was cozy. Spinnaker is a great place for a romantic get-away.

What a lovely serene setting is The Spinnaker House! We spent Valentine's Day, 2004, there and fell in love with the place. The layout of the house is wonderful for anyone from a couple to a large family, offering 4 bedrooms on 3 different levels, and the fireplace was a wonderful respite from the cold winds of the wintery beach, to watch movies or play a board game by the roaring fire. The large window in the back of the house, complete with comfy seating, overlooks the water and the dock out back, and we enjoyed morning coffee watching the birds dip and sail by. A more peaceful place couldn't be found for us in the winter. Next, we will have to check out the summer festivites from Spinnaker. A lovely home to spend your vacation, no matter the length of stay or season of the year. Thanks!

We took a winter vacation at this lovely home and had a great time. The home had looked very nice in the brochure but it even felt better when we got there because of the high ceiling, warmth of the fireplace and having all the comforts we needed. We particularly enjoyed the layout of the home because of so many windows. In the morning we could see the sun comming up from where we had breakfast, during the day the sun came in the large living room windows and in the evening we could see the sun going down from the front deck. WE enjoyed the Eastern Shores as there were lots of birds, ducks, deer, horses and nature. The home was clean and everything was comfortable. The owner was a pleasure to rent from.

We take a personal interest in each of your vacations with us as we know know special and few they are over a lifetime, and we always enjoy your wanting to return once again for the 2nd, 3rd, 5th, and even 8th time again this year. With the age of the iternet, we realize that there are people who don't know us personally and would enjoy hearing form any of you who we have had the pleasure of having as guests in Spinnaker Waterfront Vacation Rental on Chincoteague Island VA. Therefor, we have installed this guestbook to share some of those experiences whether your favorite thing was sharing the memories of catching crabs off our private dock with 3 generations of your family, or just relaxing and enjoying the water views on the screen-in porch or the cozy fire on a winter getaway. We awoke each morning to the beauty of the sun rising and could hear the gentle music of the water easing into the shoreline. The house became our house for that weekend, and we felt truly at home. Pat treated of us as family, and did everything possible to welcome us. We left the weekend feeling revitalized. As i type this note, I can feel the memories of Spinnaker calling us back. I had the wonderful opportunity to stay at Spinnaker the week of July 4th 2002. My Mom uses a walker and the house was perfect for her with a bedroom, living area, kitchen, dining room, screened porch all on the same level. My daughter and two granddaughters also stayed with us (my son was the "man" of the house that week). My granddaughter Michaela is a Fourth of July baby so we had her birthday party at Spinnaker and then went to see fireworks in town. I can't begin to tell you how relaxing this vacation was. We had so much fun and just loved Spinnaker. This is one of the vacations that will always bring a smile to my face! I highly recommend Spinnaker. Ginger Groff Lancaster PA
