Ocean Springs bungalow description
Oak Shade is an award-winning property located in the historic area of old downtown Ocean Springs. The Main House was the original Harbor Master's home built in 1953. I became the owner in 1988 and eventually added the Palmetto Room Suite and the Azalea Room. Both accommodations are spacious, comfortable, quiet and feature private entrance/private bath.
Oak Shade was the first B&B to be licensed in Ocean Springs; however, following Hurricane Katrina I went to a 'no frills' board & lodging facility and now offer only coffee & tea. (Guests are welcome to bring in their own food and beverage.)
Oak Shade is walking distance to the beach, the Walter Anderson Museum of Art, Fort Maurepas State Park, the Little Children's Playground, the library, and the shops and restaurants that dot tree-lined Washington Avenue through downtown.
The people are friendly and warm; the weather is nigh onto perfect; and the town is utterly charming.
The bedrooms vary depending on the space you select. Azalea Room features an enormous open design with comfortable sitting area in front of entertainment - TV/DVD and numerous books, a desk with chair for easy internet access, queen-bed, closet and the largest shower in all of Ocean Springs!
The Palmetto Room offers two queen beds, one in the more private MBR sleeping space with a small deck attached to French-sliding-door. The other is a Murphy-queen-bed located behind enormous book shelves in the living area. It is made only when guests require a second bed. There is also a wet-bar, table & chairs, two easy chairs and an entertainment center that features DVD/VCR compatibility.
The Main House at Oak Shade offers a MBR with queen-bed, guest bedroom with double bed and an office with another bed for additional sleeping. It comes with a fully-furnished kitchen, dining room and open living room area with two reading chairs and a sofa. Living Room opens onto screened-in front porch with seating for several to enjoy sunsets and moon rises. Office opens onto a wonderful deck area that is shared with the Azalea Room. (My daughters and I built the deck in the summer of 1998 and are understandably proud of our efforts!)
Oak Shade offers tranquility, peace and quiet. Dissertations have been worked on as well as quilting, sewing, art and other equally romantic pursuits.
Keywords: Two spacious accommodations each with private entrance and bath attached to Oak Shade Main House by a breezeway.

Nothing but Heaven
Nothing but Heaven
For the past several years I have stayed at Oak Shade when I truly needed rest, nurturing, and a clear mind. This place has become like home to me. No one is there to bother you. There is perfect silence in the rooms. The beds are so comforting. You never want to get out of bed, even though you know, just down the road is the amazing beach or the other way, amazing shopping. The room invites you to heal and rest your weary head. If you have a stressed life, a stressed job, this is the place to find peace. Oak Shade is decorated to nurture one's soul. If you love books, the collection is awesome. You can always find a wonderful read. If you like the old black and white movies that come on Turner Classic Movies, just turn on the TV and stay up all night watching the great flicks, you can then just sleep all day. The coffee even tastes better here. The air is fresh. It is like a slice of heaven, where you can forget about your cares, the daily grind you leave behind, the troubles of your heart or mind. It is just pure peace and I've traveled the whole country and stayed in amazing places, always 5 star majectic palaces. Though my job at times gave me the opportunity to travel and visit and stay in nothing but the best, it is the feeling of home that makes Oak Shade my vacation spot above all others. Your every need is met and in Ocean Springs itself, you will never meet a stranger and always be treated with kindness. Oak Shade offers comfort...comfortable to stay in, but also comfort for the weary. If you need a place to dock, out of storms way, a restful spot is there for you at Oak Shade. I have never found a better healing place. Enjoy, breathe, and take in the spirit of respite. You will leave transformed and loving life!!!

About the owner: I am a high-energy beyond midlife woman whose world altered dramatically after Hurricane Katrina. Only one block off the beach my property was undamaged and I housed five homeless families and 28 people after the storm. When tourism returned I revved-up and revitalized the place but decided to no longer offer breakfast to my guests. Instead, they may bring their own provisions or enjoy numerous restaurant options in downtown Ocean Springs, walking distance from Oak Shade . My four children are grown, responsible, professionals who are advocates for the environment, possess excellent credit ratings and who return each year to this lovely small town where they grew up. I love to read and I provide guests with a wide assortment of books for their pleasure: travel, nature, art, history, fiction, biography and poetry. My goal is to die young at an old age and having this wonderful property helps to ensure that eventuality!
Why the Owner Chose Ocean Springs:
I wanted to be able to walk along the beach day or night in a safe community with good neighbors, where both nature and the arts are celebrated. Ocean Springs is all that and more! Restaurants, the library and the Walter Anderson Museum are also within easy walking distance. My four young grandchildren enjoy the Little Children's Park and Fort Maurepas State Park, both walking distance from Oak Shade. My adult children appreciate the Inner Harbor Park and being able to walk to the library just up the street.
The Unique Benefits at this Bungalow:
With a small-town atmosphere, charming downtown area, safe streets and friendly people, Ocean Springs is a visitor's paradise. This area is a vacation destination with numerous outdoor recreational pursuits as well as stimulating art and music venues. Gulf Islands National Seashore is nearby as well as the Gulf Coast Research Laboratory. Ocean Springs offers two beaches, Front Beach a block from Oak Shade and East Beach a drive across the Inner Harbor Bridge. Shearwater Pottery and the Mary C. O'Keefe Cultural Center are 'must-see' venues. Most often guests comment on the location, privacy, and coziness of staying at Oak Shade. And they return again and again!
