The four of us, my husband, our two dogs and I had a great time at Gundy's. I am the the youngest of Gundy's three daughters. It was the first time I've been there in years. We really enjoyed the rustic feel of the cabin. A great time was had by all.Recommended for: Girls getaway, tourists without a car, pet owners, age 55+, adventure seekers, romantic getaway, sightseeing, families with young children, families with teenagers.

I had the unique and absolutely iterrific opportunity to relax at the Grundy Cabin earlier this year for several days. In short, I could not have asked for a more lovely, quiet and truly classic Tahoe cabin. From the easy access and decor to the comfort of relaxing on the balcony next to the hot tub, the stay was grand indeed. I found the cabin clean, safe, and quiet. The rock fireplace was classic, and lake access easy where I admit I enjoyed a glass of wine sittiing on the pier looking out over the lake at early evening. It is one of those places you want to tell your friends about but not others for fear there wont be a vacancy when you wanbt to return; and I hope to. There are very few cabins like this on the lake available to the public. A capital stay indeed; thank you!Recommended for: Girls getaway, tourists without a car, age 55+, adventure seekers, romantic getaway, sightseeing, families with young children, families with teenagers.

My husband and I came to Tahoe to celebrate an anniversary and this was really a great place to chose. It is unlike most VRBO rentals as it feels as if one is staying at their grandparents log cabin home with many comforting amenities. The old 80 year old cabin feel was so fun and has so much history. Every nook and cranny provided such interesting things and we mostly liked the hot tub star gazing and bird watching. Thanks Lisen.....you are a great host.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

My husband and I, residents of Portland, Oregon, stayed at Gundy's with our infant son in mid July. We shared the cabin with good friends from Las Vegas- Tahoe and the cabin were a perfect "in between" destination for a summer vacation. I cannot say enough good things about Gundy's! The moment we opened the front door I was completely charmed. It was simultaneously warm and bright, cozy and airy (the loft! so lovely!); rustic with all the modern conveniences a familly needs. Gundy's is a family-owned cabin, and it's history and pride of ownership is evident in countless details throughout the cabin as well. No need went overlooked- all appliances worked great, plenty of towels and linens, soaps for dishes, laundry, etc. We had young children with us, and well as our dog, and found that if ever we needed something, we could find it very easily. LOVED that the cabin is dog-friendly! In addition to the amenities, we found Gundy's to be very clean...not a single complaint in that department. The location is wonderful as well...close to Kings Beach, as well as Tahoe City. Plenty to do just a short car drive or bike ride away. We cannot wait to return. I am already missing mornings on the large deck with filtered lake views, and evenings in the hot tub with a glass of wine after the babies were snuggled in bed. I cannot see how anyone could give this home less than five stars. If you're looking for a timeless, Old-Tahoe feel, and a fantastic location, Gundy's is an ABSOLUTE GEM! I wish I was able to include pictures of the cabin in my review. The pictures the owner includes are accurate (except there is now a flat screen TV in place of the older box set) but in all honesty, they don't do the cabin justice! You've got to see this magical little place for yourself. I haven't a single complaint about our stay (the property manager was also VERY responsive to all questions!). We hope to make our stay at Gundy's an annual tradition. No need went overlooked- the cabin is fullyRecommended for: Girls getaway, pet owners, age 55+, adventure seekers, romantic getaway, sightseeing, families with young children.

Our stay at your wonderful cabin was definitely the highlight of our Tahoe visit this year. This 1930's deluxe cabin was the real deal and so tastefully updated - just magical! The hot tub and all the modern conveniences aside, I just loved the vintage swing on the deck - so relaxing. We'll be back.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

Our stay at "Gundy’s Getaway" very enjoyable. This warm cozy cabin truly does have everything you need for a mountain getaway. Loved that it was convenient to the lake. Since Tahoe City was so close we even got to leave the kids home with grandma a couple of nights so we could have a much needed “date night”. My mom loves this cabin and won’t let us come back again without her. We truly loved all the warm touches you have added to give your home that “Tahoe” feel. The setting was beautiful. My favorite place was the shaded swing on the large sunny deck where I spent hours with a good book. My coffee, the morning sun, the kids still asleep, so peaceful I wanted to freeze time. Kitchen was well-stocked. Wood-burning fireplace was so warm and inviting, we had to use it one night even though it wasn’t very cold outside. The home was clean and well taken care of. We also really enjoyed the spa and appreciated how clean it was. We had an excellent time and are already planning to come back next year. This will be our annual Tahoe cabin vacation. Thank you so much for sharing your charming, warm, and comfortable home with us. I would definitely recommend this cabin!Recommended for: Girls getaway, pet owners, age 55+, adventure seekers, romantic getaway, sightseeing, families with young children, families with teenagers, people with disabilities.

Our stay was a reminder of how things were in the old days of vacationing at Lake Tahoe. Warm days, cold nights clear skies & plenty of Pollen, Robins and Blue Jays.. We discovered some faults in the housekeeping such as cobwebs, oven not clean ( with streaked oven cleaner still inside), BBQ grill not cleaned & floor tilting so that one could roll a marble from the up side of the cabin to a low side. All-in-all, if one loves to relive the old, less modern days of Tahoe, this cablin suits the bill!Recommended for: Adventure seekers.

About the owner: Sisters Gry and Lisen Gunderson are delighted to share their family cabin with you. You will feel the warmth of their countless family gatherings over thirty some years. Gry owns and operates an equestrian center in the Fairfield area where she trains people with their horses in show jumping. Lisen lives on the Big Island of Hawaii with her family where they have a Kona coffee farm and mill.
Why the Owner Chose Carnelian Bay:
Gundy and Harriet loved this particular location when they decided to buy a cabin at Tahoe because of its central location to all the activities they enjoy. It's near to both of the major towns on the North Shore--Tahoe City and Kings Beach are just minutes away. Harriet loved to play black jack at Stateline casinos with girl friends, only 15 minutes down the road. Garwoods, one of the most popular restaurants on the lake, is just one mile away. Gundy could walk down to the lake for an early morning fishing expedition and the kids could just spend hours playing in the water. In winter, favorite ski resorts are just 25 minutes away in either direction, Squaw Valley, Homewood and North Star.
The Unique Benefits at this Cabin:
Some of our favorite things to do up at the cabin are to take walks through the neighborhood, taking in the views and enjoying the great diversity of cabins. At the top of the neighborhood is Tahoe Forest Reserve where you can hike for miles in wilderness. We enjoy hanging out down at the lake, boating, swimming, catching crawdads. A public, dog-friendly beach is less than a mile from the cabin for a picnic or sunset by the water. You can catch the bike trail just a mile a way which goes all the way down the west side of the lake and along the Truckee River towards Squaw Valley. We have our favorite restaurants that we love to frequent as well as farmer's markets and shopping, just minutes away in both directions. Sitting on the deck in the morning sun, napping on the swing in the afternoon with a good book, and soaking in the hot tub after a swim in the lake are all favorite times at the cabin.
