Relaxing & Wonderful Views
Relaxing & Wonderful Views
We stayed here in September and the weather was great. The house was very well equipped, clean & comfortable, and the sunset views over the bay very relaxing. The island was quiet but had enough shops and restaurants open.

To say we had a good time in Chincoteague would be a lie; we had a GREAT time. The home is very clean and so comfortable it felt like home. The owners are nice to deal with and very helpful. We loved the screened in deck for breakfast and playing board games in the evening. The view and sunsets are spectacular. The grandchildren can’t wait to go back. Thank you Mark and Susan for a great time. Ron and Carole Cupo and family Nottingham, Pa.

Three adults and one 19-month old had a great time at this house over Memorial Day weekend. The best part is that it is right on the water with spectacular sunsets that you can see from the couch or the screened in porch (which is a great place to hang out). In the mornings, hundreds of birds feed in the water and the picture windows in the living room/porch give a great view of the show. There were three families of Canadian geese with goslings that came by each evening to eat. We also saw a turtle and had great success catching (and releasing) crabs. You don't even need the traps, you can just scoop them up from the shallows with a net. The back yard had much less grass and more sand/dirt than the picture suggests, but that made it easier to see everything in the water. Note that there is not a real barrier to the water, so you couldn't leave young children outside unattended. The house is comfortable, but the amenities are very basic compared to other house we have rented through VRBO. The kitchen in particular is very basically equipped (e.g. old pots and pans). We had the same issue with the tv remote that the other reviewer did, but we also did not really want to watch much tv so I can't say it mattered. There was a basic charcoal grill which served our purposes just fine. The owner is very responsive to issues of which he is made aware. The AC was broken when we got there on Friday and after calling him, he had a repairman out there that evening (it was actually fixed early on Saturday morning because a part was needed). You do have to bring all your own sheets and towels as there are none (not even dish towels) at the house. There are puzzles and some games, as well as books to read. It's quite an eclectic selection of books. One other note, if you want to sleep in and need darkness to do so, this is not the house for you. Especially if you expect someone to sleep on the pull-out in the living room or in the open loft space. There are no blinds on the windows (the big windows in the photos) so that person will be up with the sun! All in all, we had a fantastic time and I would rent this house again (but would probably bring my own pots/pans and knives - we like to cook!).

Owner response: Liz, Sorry about the sand/dirt in the back yard, but we just had it placed there to protect the back side of the bulkhead. The grass will grow in soon. Thanks for your comments regarding the pots in the kitchen. We'll get some new ones in there right away. We're very glad that you enjoyed your visit and the amazing views of all the bird activity. Please come again soon. Best regards, Mark & Susan

House was very nice. Comfortable and view is extraordinary. Overall our stay was very enjoyable. a few disappointments however. No charcoal grill. One under porch was all rusted and unusable. We had to go buy one. Icemaker did not work. Also the clickers to the Tv's didn't work. However we were not going to watch much TV. We enjoyed our stay and would recommend it to others. AJ;s restaurant was very good.

Owner response: Hi Joanne, Thank you for sharing your comments. We wish that you had called us regarding the grill and icemaker as we could have made arrangements for replacement/repair during your stay. The TV clickers all work, but it often seems that guests move them from one room to another and they are not interchangeable. We'll get some labels on them to avoid confusion. We hope that consider returning to our home again soon. Best regards, Mark & Susan Ellis
