If you need an inspirational place to be productive, the Rocky Hill Retreat is also a unique meeting space for small groups and events.
ALL BRAND NEW!
The Rocky Hill Retreat has recently been reincarnated – everything has been remodeled and renewed to make it a new home, perfect for your relaxing retreat from normal life.
HEART OF THE HOME
The kitchen boasts granite counters and a friendly island, beautiful birch cupboards, and all new appliances. It’s fully stocked for cooking and eating in, when you don’t want to get out of your slippers. Enjoy the flat screen TV and DVR while you cook. The dining room table seats 10 comfortably so everyone can share their stories from the day. And,the panoramic 8 foot sliding glass door invites the view in even when you're not on the patio.
The spacious living room is the hub of entertainment and relaxation. The gas log fireplace keeps you toasty on chilly mornings and adds the glow to the evening fun. Watch the flatscreen TV or a blueray DVD, play games at the poker table, or cuddle up with a good book beside the fire.
BEDS, BATHS, & LAUNDRY
Each bedroom has its own unique flare. The master has a queen sized pine log bed and brings nature in everywhere. Enjoy your coffee on your own patio, just outside your sliding glass door, or enjoy the beautiful view while you linger in bed with your morning TV. The ensuite bathroom gives you a little sanctuary from the rest of your group. The second bedroom takes you back in time with its full sized, 100 year old bed, antique phone, and photos of my great grandparents in Spain. The third bedroom sleeps one or two with its trundle bed, and reminds you that you have more time to relax and slow down – you’re on vacation! An additional queen size, elevated Aerobed is ready for extra guests - great in front of the fireplace!
The two full bathrooms (one inside the master bedroom) each have shower, tub, new fixtures and new vanities for everyone’s needs. The new laundry room will be handy for those enjoying a longer stay.
ENJOY THE VIEW & NEIGHBORHOOD
While the inside of the Rocky Hill Retreat is beautiful, it’s the life outside that reveals true beauty. Enjoy the sunrise over the rocky hills from our comfy patio, or barbeque for the gang as the sun casts a magical glow across the meadow and lands on the hillside. Take a walk through quiet neighborhood streets with unique homes, watch the sun glisten on the grape vines, and enjoy the walking trails through the meadow.
Stroll 5-10 minutes to Main Street, and walk in the footsteps of famous Mark Twain, Ulysses S Grant, Horatio Alger and notorious Black Bart. Murphys, known as the “Queen of the Sierra” and was named “One of The Top 10 Coolest Towns in America” by Frommers. Main Street is the heart of this gold rush town - it's lined with a variety of great restaurants, unique shops, and more than 18 WINE TASTING ROOMS! Yum!
Steps away from Main Street is the community park. Like a scene from a movie, the gazebo welcomes brides and grooms or live bands, the creek rushes by to the delight of children’s toes, and the barbeque pits host good grill for parties, big and small. Town loves to host several events throughout the year, making Murphys a destination for big celebrations or any relaxing weekend escape from your every day life.
WINES and WEDDINGS are part of the fabric of Murphys! The Rocky Hill Retreat is the perfect wedding home base. The bride and her wedding party can enjoy each other and prepare for the big day with all the comforts of home. Or, make this the family headquarters, a spacious place for family and friends to gather, organize their plans, and tell stories of how the big day unfolded.
Most find all they need for a memorable getaway right here, and never get in the car until they return home. But if you’re looking for adventures, you can find everything from skiing and biking, to world-famous giant sequoias, to boating and golf, to spectacular caverns, to amazing art and horseback riding, all nearby. At 2,000 feet elevation, Murphys climate is perfect all year round – bright springs, warm summers, crisp falls, and a snow dusting or two in the winter (but never have to scoop one shovel!)
The Rocky Hill Retreat is also a great place to hold your team meeting or planning session. Groups do their best thinking when they are in an environment that promotes new perspectives. A professional consultant and facilitator will help design the right process to achieve your goals and can facilitate your meeting so everyone can participate fully. Tools to make your session successful include: flipchart, white board, pens, notepads, printer, projector and screen.
Make the ROCKY HILL RETREAT YOUR FAVORITE DESTINATION! It's the perfect escape for friends, families, bridal parties, and productive group meetings.

We loved this home, great location , very quite street and perfect backyard to sit and relax and drink wine. The home was VERY clean and well stocked with anything you would need. The family room is awesome and larger then the picture makes it look. Ceiling fans were nice since it was warm and we really did not the air running. Thanks we will be back.

Had an excellent stay at this property re-uniting with some friends for 20+ years. Property well kept and well-maintined. Great and 'homey' touches all over. Lots of space for relaxing, enjoying, and bringing back finds from wine and gold country spots.

Great Little Getaway!
Great Little Getaway!
We were visiting Murphys for fun and visiting with friends and family. We brought family friends with us and were 4 adults and 4 children total. We all fit, but sleeping arrangements were tight, naturally. The kitchen and family room were wonderfully spacious. There were sweet welcoming touches throughout the home (very much appreciated). The home has been lovingly created and cared for, and we found the owner, Jackie to be very responsive and available for any questions. We were cautioned that the home might not be a great fit for our 3 year old, but all the children had fun, and all the adults were able to relax.

Nice house in great location!
Nice house in great location!
We stayed here over Presidents Day Weekend for the annual wine weekend. There were 6 adults and 2 kids in the house. Overall, the house was great for our needs. The kitchen is nice, and the living room is very spacious with plenty of seating. I'm removing 1 star because all of the board games we tried playing were missing a lot of pieces. My sister-in-law said the double bed was also very uncomfortable (not only extremely small for 2 people, but they were both sinking into the middle of the bed). My husband and I slept in the trundle beds and I found mine to be nice and firm, which is what I prefer. Hand soap in the bathroom would have been a nice addition. The location is great, with a short walk to down town. The backyard is nice, and I'm sure is great to use during the summer!

Owner response: Thanks for the review, Steve. I'm glad our home was a good fit for your family. Really appreciate the feedback. We normally do put out both liquid and bars of soap (as well as shampoo), but perhaps my housekeeper missed it. It's so hard with beds. As we advertise, our 2nd bedroom is a double/full (it's a standard size, so perhaps your sister in law is not used to a double). In the past year we had one guest say that they thought the bed was too firm, so we bought memory foam toppers for the queen and double. That might be what makes if feel soft for her. Hope we see you again soon - summer is coming, and you're right - the patio is great that time of year!
We had a blast. The kitchen was perfect for cooking for 25! The dining room table is enormous. Everyone that came in the door felt right at home and said they could move right in. The owners were a phone call away when I locked myself out! We will definetly be back to Rocky Hill Retreat. Within walking distance to the wonderful town of Murphys for good food, great wine and shopping.

The Rocky Hill Retreat was absolutely teriffic. I rented the house for a birthday celebration with my friends. The home was cozy and had everything we could possible need. The location was great. We went on a long run in the beautiful country. Walked to town for wine tasting, shopping, lunch and dinner. Jackie had just great extra touchs, like birthday party hats!! It was all much appreciated and enjoyed. Thank you for sharing your wonderful retreat.

This house was perfect! Very roomy (we had kids with us) Well stocked kitchen. Nicely updated. We were only there for about 10 minutes when we decided to definately come back for an all girls weekend. Very short walk to downtown. Beds were very comfortable. We really appreciated all the notes around the house telling how to work everything. As well as the book on the coffee table. We could easily navigate the TV so the kids could watch movies. We did have a little trouble with the front door lock, we had to enter the code numerous times before it would unlock. But eventually we got in. Would definately recommend!!

We had a great time in Murphys. The Rocky Hill Retreat was a perfect location to downtown, just a brief walk away. Everything was very comfortable and clean. The couches were so cozy, perfect for a lazy Saturday watching movies. We have been coming to Murphys for 5 years now, and this is the best house we have found. We will definately be back.

Owner response: I'm so glad you and your friends enjoyed the Rocky Hill Retreat, Brandy! (Those couches are great for falling asleep while watching late night TV too!) How wonderful to be your new favorite among the many great options in Murphys. I hope we see you again soon. ~ jackie
Thank you Jackie for taking a chance on a family with four small children to stay at your lovely home! It was a perfect place for us to have a getaway, and the house worked out really well for us. We brought two pack 'n plays and there was ample room in the bedrooms to set them up. The beds were very comfortable and the house was well equipped with everything we had need of. The kids really enjoyed all the games and loved looking at the antique telephone in the second bedroom, they were amazed that people once actually made calls on such a contraption! We enjoyed sitting out on the patio in the back and watching the wonderful birds flitting about from tree to tree. There were some really pretty colored ones, purples and a greenish/yellow one. It was very peaceful and relaxing. The town of Murphys was very quaint and fun, we didn't get to do wine tasting this time but would love to return sans little ones some time to do so. The park in town was absolutely wonderful and in such a great setting with the creek running right through it. The little bakery in town, Aria was a breakfast staple for freshly baked pastries and lattes. Yum!! We did a little sight seeing as well, the Mercer Caves are very close but with all the steps not suitable for children in frontpacks so we made the (interesting!) trek out to California Caves, about 30 min away and that was well worth the drive. It was a scorcher of a day and the caves were a welcome cooling break as well as informative and exciting for the kids. We also traveled up to Big Trees and breathed in the fresh forest air under the legs of the giants. Those grandiose Sequoias never cease to amaze and inspire young and old. Finally, we traveled about 20 min over to Columbia to the old Gold mining town. I'd been there before but it too is well worth the drive and fun to see a glimpse into California's illustrious past. In all, we had a great relaxing time and that was facilitated well by Jackie and her wonderful home. We are happy to recommend this place to our friends. Thanks so much!!

About the owner: We're Jeff and Jackie (Alcalde) Marr. We love wine tasting (we like to practice, practice practice...!) We were married at beautiful Ironstone Winery on Grape Stomp weekend, so Murphys has a special place in our hearts. Can you believe that Jeff didn't drink wine before he met Jackie?! Now he loves to tell you about his favorite tasting rooms on Main Street. There is nothing better than a morning walk to breakfast, wine tasting through the mid day, napping in the afternoon, and a nice dinner and play for the evening. Or, maybe just enjoy a morning Bloody Mary at the historic Hotel, play games and barbeque dinner on the patio! Jeff's a mortgage broker, and Jackie's an organization development consultant and leadership & life coach. (That's why coaching and team planning sessions are a great fit for the Rocky Hill Retreat.) We live in Folsom and love to do mini getaways to Mendocino, Yosemite, and Tahoe. But of course, our favorite getaway is to Murphys! It's hard to find a place where you feel totally at home (but totally away from home!) We hope you come to enjoy the Rocky Hill Retreat, stock up special memories, and make it a cherished tradition to come back again and again!
Why the Owner Chose Murphys:
We've known we wanted to create a place for people to gather for relaxation, and to make great memories. We kept our eyes open for just the right place in Murphys. It had to have a view, and it had to be walking distance to Main Street. The Rocky Hill Retreat finally appeared - a little diamond in the rough until we spent three months polishing her! Murphys was Jackie's home away from home growing up - her sister has been an integral part of the community for more than 40 years. She lives just a couple minutes walk away, and now that we have the Rocky Hill Retreat, we can have her over to OUR place!
The Unique Benefits at this House:
While there are so many adventurous activities to enjoy nearby (Calaveras Big Trees, Bear Valley, New Melones Reservoir, Mercer Caverns, golfing, horseback riding, Mercer Caverns, zip lines...gosh, the list goes on and on...), we have to admit, we're pretty lazy. We enjoy hanging out in town and talking with the local shop owners and vintners. It's a wonderful community of interesting people, and we like to count ourselves among them. For us, the best weekend includes coffee on our patio (thank goodness the coffee maker can start automatically, so we can slip out of bed onto our patio for sunrise - something we'd never do at home!), hours reading beside our gas stove/fireplace, a game and a good movie. When we need to stretch our legs, we love the short walk to Main Street for great food, fantastic wine, and good chat with our friends.
