Cozy home in north Joshua Tree located on 1/2 acre with two large Joshua Trees in front yard, cacti, sitting areas in the front and back, close to the national park and downtown shopping district. Paved roads to the property down Sunfair. Also close to the bi-annual music festival which is on Sunfair. This home is in a get-away-from-it-all location sitting in the middle of a small community of homes. Enjoy Art Tours the last two weekends in October and Joshua Tree Music Festival in early October and early May. Discover Joshua Tree National Park, Indian Cove entrance which is free 12 miles to the east or Park Blvd entrance which requires a daily fee 12 miles to the west. Joshua Tree is great for artist types including painters, writers and photographers. It's easy to find rusty artifacts while walking the wide open spaces or old glass and weathered items unearthed by our infrequent but feisty wind and rain storms.

The Buzzards Roost was perfect for our quick trip to Joshua Tree for some late season climbing. Backyard grill was a nice plus. For multiple couples, it is worth noting that the second bedroom has a trundle bed, while the first bedroom has a queen/full and the sunroom has a full futon.Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children.

Quiet and just isolated enough for our vacation. Spent time hiking in beautiful Joshua Tree National Park and it was so nice to come "home" to the Buzzard Roost. Clean, very well maintained. Owner helpful with restaurant and hiking recommendations. The sun room included plenty of brochures to help us fill out our travel plans. Our thanks to Buck for our stay - it was wonderful.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children.

This home was exactly what we needed for our family and the type of trip we were on. It has plenty of space for a family of five and the full kitchen made meal time easy. It was very clean and comfortable. The yard was perfect for our 2 older boys to explore. My husband and I enjoyed sitting in the sun watching them. The owner is super nice and very helpful. The check in and out process was incredibly simple. We would definitely stay here again.Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, age 55+, families with young children.

I stayed here for a few nights to get out of the city and have some solitude. The house was much bigger than I'd expected! I was shocked to have all the space to myself. I can definitely see myself going back. Plenty of privacy. Neighboring houses are at least 75-100 feet away. The house is located about 20-25 minutes from the Utah park entrance to Joshua Tree park. The house is homy. I felt like I was staying at my grandmother's house. Since I was getting away from my posh, modernized living in LA I really enjoyed the contrast. I sat outside to watch the sunrise one morning. Got to see all the birds wake up and there were lots of them. Without the sounds of the city I could even hear the flapping of the smallest birds' wings. The only other sounds was the rustling of wind through the palm trees, dogs barking, and the crowing of roosters in the area.Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, age 55+, families with young children.
Owner response: So happy to hear you felt so at ease here at the Roost. We believe this desert is a spiritual and restful oasis in an otherwise busy world. We really appreciate what you wrote , it is a big part of why we made this home available . Your very kind. Buck.

Great hi-desert getaway! Roomy, comfortable and clean. About a mile from 29 Palms Highway and about 3 miles from the Joshua Tree Music Festival grounds, this space provided a great respite from the outdoors during the day & a quality space to lounge under the stars at night. The owners/landlords are local, helpful, friendly and communicative. I would highly recommend this place to anyone looking for safehaven from the desert elements at a more-than-reasonable rate. Obviously it provides a much more personalized touch than a hotel or motel - and has much more desert style & room to spread out. I would definitely stay here again with my family or a group of friends. So go visit the gorgeous epicness that is Joshua Tree, support some wonderful locals and kick your feet up at Buzzards Roost!Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, people with disabilities, age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children.
Owner response: So glad to hear how much others love our little village of Joshua Tree. We do love sharing our openness with the world. It is a special place with it's own natural energy that draws the like minded to it. Thank you Ian for your kind words and please do come and stay again. Enjoyed your music at the festival, great mixing. So fun to dance to. Buck and J

My friends and I really enjoyed our stay at "The Buzzards Roost" The house was very clean and comfortable with the desert charm. We had everything that we needed. They had a BBQ on site so we BBQ'd under the stars. There was an event at Joshua Tree Lake that we went to so having the house close to that location was a bonus. The owners of the property were very nice and helpful during our stay. After we left my friend realized she left something behind. The owner was helpful and mailed the item to my friend. Our experience was great so I give it a two thumbs up.Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.

Owner info
Year Purchased: 2010
About the owner: The Buzzards Roost began in Bouse.AZ where it was a coffee shop and local gathering spot. I moved to Joshua Tree two years ago and decided to carry on the Buzzards Roost tradition in the form of a vacation rental. My son Douglas and his wife Julia, are members of the Transition J T Foodies and Water Group as well as the North Joshua Tree Permaculture Society, where plans to build and maintain a local organic farm and conservation demonstration garden this property are under way. He is trying out ideas including solar and wind power and desert gardening and water saving techniques such as rain catchment on this property. I live nearby about a mile up the road. I decorated the vacation rental with my own personal flair. I hope you find it charming and comfortable.
Why the Owner Chose Joshua Tree:
Joshua Tree is a lovely desert village with a inspiring vibe that brings me joy. The area where this home is located is away from it all while having sparsely sprinkled neighbors 1/2 acre away. It's on a paved road surrounded by dirt roads. It's close to town but close to wide open space as well.
The Unique Benefits at this House:
Sunrise and sunset views, stargazing, peace and quiet, ,roadrunners, bunnies, quail, coyote. Fenced in yard keeps family and friends safe during the day but I'd be watchfull at night. Short drive to the national park 29 Palms Indian cove entrance or Park Blvd Joshua Tree entrance. Three miles to Joshua Tree Lake and Dry Lake OHV area. Favorite restaurants are Crossroads, Royal Thai and Sams. Joshua Tree Health Food Store is also recommended as is the weekly Saturday morning farmers market. Natural Sisters has amazing smoothies and Pie for the People has hand tossed pizza. The Grateful Desert Herb and Eco Market is highly recommended and the local thrift stores are fun to browse through. The Saturday morning farmers market is a great place to pick up locally grown organic foods and check out the great shops and antique stores in Joshua tree township.
