Quaint Cottage, Walk to Beach and Old Town Bay St. Louis

  Our party of four found that Kevin and Jane are accomodating hosts who will go out of their way to assist their guests. The cottage is actually part of a bed & breakfast facility, located behind the main house. Breakfast is included for short term cottage guests but those staying for longer periods are charged extra for breakfast, except on weekends. Long term guests are also expected to purchase additional toiletries, paper towels, etc.and clean the cottage before departing. Guests with pets can leave their best friend in their room in a crate if they are staying in the main house; however, well-mannered pets are allowed to remain uncrated in the cottage. There's only a small pet deposit and we appreciated not being charged a rental deposit up front. The breakfasts were to die for but the cottage was not quite what we had anticipated. We had quite a bit of difficulty converting the futon to a bed and vice-versa. And talk about an uncomfortable bed - it couldn't have been much worse! To Kevin's credit, he did say that he and Jane were considering replacing the futon with a sofa bed. The cottage is clean but could use a fresh coat of paint inside. It's just not as beautiful as the photos seem to indicate. The old pickup stored in open view at the end of the driveway right alongside the cottage certainly makes the property look less desirable. Kevin and Jane have lots of printed information about local attractions and restaurants to pass on to guests. We loved the food and service at Sycamore House, a charming restauant nearby. Overall, we had a pleasant stay and our hosts were very gracious. If the futon had been comfortable and the pickup had not been parked alongside the cottage, we would have given the cottage a higher rating.

The Futon mattress is brand new and we have had no other complaints about its comfort. The pictures depicting the cottage are less than 4 months old. Therefore, we feel they are as accurate as possible. The truck behind the cottage, Old Bessy, can easily be moved if requested. She is an antique and part of the ambiance of The Carroll House. As with most vacation rentals, longer term guests provide their own provisions. However, guest of The Carroll House enjoy a free gourmet breakfast on the weekends, a perk not typical of most vacation rentals.

  My (now) wife and I were married in Slidell, LA and used the Carroll House as a gathering place for friends and family for what we termed our "funnymoon" . We had 2 crews come in for 2 nights stay each for a total of 4 days. The accommodations at Carroll House were perfect. We stayed in the cottage and were able to visit with and entertain everyone. We had a delightful time. We renamed the sunrise room the "Princess Room." It is simply breathtaking. The establishment was everything we wanted and more. However, the best part was Kevin and Jane. When we arrived on Friday after our wedding, there was a vase full of roses along with a bottle of champagne and a very nice card that will make it into the scrap book. Kevin and Jane were very attentive and all of our wants or needs were taken care of with a smile. Their recommendations of local bars and restaurants as well as sights are definitely worth listening too (Ugly Pirate, Trapani's, and The friendship tree). I don't want to say the best part, because everything was so good, but the breakfasts were to die for...we had a few special needs (vegetarian and young kids) that our hosts managed and everyone left breakfast with an enormous smile. Our time at Carroll House was amazing and we will be visiting again!

  Nothing to say other than everything was perfect. The cottage was perfect in every way. The town was ideal for beaches, restaurants, shops and people. We want to live there
