Waterfront Contemporary with Artistic Bent

This artistic house is on 4 acres of meadow and trees at the end of a quiet private road. It has a 180 degree waterfront, almost 2000 ft. of water frontage with open views across Potter's Pond. It has a boat launch and a dock with easy access to the OCEAN at Pt. Judith. Fishing and clamming are popular on this pond. Watch or paint gorgeous sunsets and sunrises from a large wrap around deck from sunny south to cool breezes under the grape arbor. The house has a 70's open floor plan with sliding glass doors on three sides to watch the wildlife, waterfowl and water activity.
Bedrooms: One comfortable queen size bed in the upper loft (closets abound up there) to be gotten to by a spiral staircase. From the pillow of this bed one can watch the sunrise over the water without lifting your head. Another room has 2 twin size beds with it's own access to the outside. The loft can also accommodate many more sleepers on air mattresses as it is a 'sleeping loft'.
Bathroom: A large square tub/shower looks out through a full size window for basking in the sunshine while showering.
Kitchen: Full kitchen with large refrigerator, oven and microwave and a unique pantry for storage.
The heat is electric radiant and the wood stove is cozy for those chilly summer evenings.
Attached garage.
Separate barn, separate greenhouse and organic garden plot and flower beds. Lots of bird watching--osprey, hawks, owls, swans, and great blue heron all share the skies with the seagulls.
Deer, rabbits and red fox live here too.
Miles of ocean beach is reached by by car or bicycle, only 2 miles or a short kayak trip across the pond.
This house was built by artists with their own hands and imaginations. There is creativity everywhere.
Enjoy the peacefulness, paint the beauty.

This is first time we've stayed on this part of RI coast. We feel very lucky to have stumbled upon this particular rental property. The house has unique features and it's beauty is only highlighted by the property location and setting. Great place to watch water (on three sides!) and we loved watching the Ospreys fish in Potter's Pond. We threw our kayaks right at the private docks and went out paddling several times each day, including a memorable full moon paddle! The owner met us on arrival and pointed out interesting features of the house and land. If the pictures make this place look beautiful and peaceful--it is that and more! We hope to return soon.Recommended for: Sightseeing, families with young children, romantic getaway, age 55+, girls getaway.

Hi Linnea, Everything is going well here -- having a fantastic, relaxing vacation. I just watched the sunrise over the water and am preparing to start my day with a cup of coffee on the deck and then a nice, long walk. Your home has been a perfect home base for us - it is so pleasant here it is almost difficult to convince ourselves to venture out and explore the local sights! This is our third visit. It is a wonder experience to stay in this beautiful house. The craftsmanship throughout the house is an adventure. We enjoyed the fun on the adjacent pond and the sunrise and sunset is beautiful. We hunted for quahog and watched the asprey fish. We made our way out to the ocean and capped it off by visiting local restaurants. We find this house and this area to be one of our favorite spots on the east coast. Thanks so much, Bruce & Joan ReedDid you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

My family and I recently spent the most relaxing week in Rhode Island that we have ever experienced. This property has so much to offer. We are from the Philadelphia area and enjoyed the seclusion and peace and quiet. There were many things to do. Our boys enjoyed kayaking in the morning and the girls enjoyed riding their bikes to the beach. My husband and I enjoyed many a glass of wine while viewing spectacular sunsets on the deck each evening. We all enjoyed clamming at low tide. This is not your typical rental. There are many artistic features evident through out the home that we all enjoyed discovering. The kids are excited to come back again next year and hopefully our schedules will allow us to spend two weeks so we can fully unwind and explore the area more extensively. Thank you for helping us create great vacation memories!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

I love this house! It was built by an artist couple and you can see their love everywhere you look. The house is filled with lovely artistic touches that are a joy to discover. Everywhere you look there are wonderful details, even the bathroom is a treat. (You'll have to rent it to see what I mean). That alone is enough to bring us back each summer but the location seals the deal. The house is on a sunny point, right next to the water. Kayak from the dock, or sit and watch the world go by. The road is private and quiet. This is the perfect place to really relax and enjoy a good book and a glass of wine. Or, with the huge back yard, hold a family croquet party. I can't say enough about what a wonderful spot this is. And if you decide to venture out, there is a lot to do in the area. Although once you watch the sun set from the back deck, you may never want to leave.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

Owner info
Year Purchased: 2006
About the owner: I am an artist. In the off season I love to paint here. The light is like no other. I teach painting year round at the Providence Art Club and other venues in the area. I am also a member of the Copley Society in Boston and have shown my abstract paintings throughout New England and beyond. Charlestown Gallery (see Points of Interest) has represented my work for 6 years. Although my husband Bill and I live in Smithfield, where I grew up and built a house, we love coming here to bask in the natural light any time of the year.
Why the Owner Chose Matunuck:
This was my parent's home. They were artists too. They built this house with their own hands and imaginations. It's a very creative house. When they passed it was left to my sister and I. We have decided to rent it to other like minded people to share the wonderful ambiance that they created in hopes that not only will it be appreciated but it will also allow for us to keep it for many more years for us to enjoy as well.
The Unique Benefits at this House:
My favorite thing to do is to sit in the big living area that is surrounded by glass and watch the weather, the clouds passing over the water and the colors the sun makes as the day changes. Sometimes I get compelled to view it from the middle of the pond, so I paddle out in my kayak and watch the light from the middle. If it's warm enough I can lower myself into the water and find a clam or two in the sand with my toes.
My husband and I have a ritual on exceptionally calm nights to go down to the dock with our beach chairs and G&Ts and watch the boats go by as the sun sets and makes everything turn orange and red.
