Enjoy a real island experience! Our rural setting will relax and rejuvenate you, giving you a taste of authentic island living. Our lodge is made of greenheart, a tropical wood so strong that Earnest Shackleton used it to cover the hull of the ship he sailed to the South Pole.
In our lodge, you will be nestled in the cleft of a hillside overlooking the Caribbean Sea, just one mile's relaxing walk down a shady country road. Our horses will greet you with a welcoming nicker, hoping for a bite of mango (their favorite.)
A swaying hammock beckons you to rest on a beautifully tiled covered deck with a direct view of the ocean. Inside, the master bedroom, with a queen bed, has its own deck with an ocean view and a full bath with a walk-in garden shower. A second bedroom has a double bed and a full closet. The third bedroom is perfect for kids (or adults who are young at heart!) with a custom built twin bunk/desk unit and an additional twin bed. Another full bath with a jetted garden tub is entered from the hallway connecting the three bedrooms.
The fourth bedroom is a work of art, with much the feel of a treehouse, up a spiral staircase and through a curtain. It's our favorite room of the house: a secret place, perfect for journaling about the island and it's adventures (this bedroom is for the more nimble guest, as the spiral staircase is steep.)
Built in 2010 by an island artisan, this lodge is truly a one of a kind work of art while still following a rich island tradition.

I stayed here for two weeks and had an amazing time. The host JoAnne was generous, friendly, and incredibly helpful for island info as she's lived here for years. The driveway is an adventure, but the setting is gorgeous. Tucked away in the jungle, you can see the ocean from the balcony. I loved the vaulted ceilings and the small tree house room was so cute! You have to go up spiral stairs to get to it and it's super cute. The kitchen is huge and was fun to cook in. The photos are totally true to form, the place was clean and comfortable. Fans in every room help with that warm tropical air flow and the frogs sang at night. I would highly recommend this place to anyone! Older people may have trouble with the stairs going to the top floor house, but there is a bottom floor apartment for rent under it with ground floor access and a separate entrance. Take the kids, take the parents, take your friends! JoAnne hooked us up with horseback riding on the beach at sunset, great restaurant recommendations, and all the sightseeing info we'd ever want. Plus she knew all the best snorkeling spots and local events. Loved it! Will definitely go back!Recommended for: Families with teenagers, sightseeing, pet owners, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with young children, girls getaway, adventure seekers, people with disabilities.

This place in truly amazing property. It's very remotely located so you feel like you are almost in another world. It has a lovely view of the ocean over the tree tops. out on the deck is a perfect place to chill anytime of the day or night. It's very "homey" with the dark wood work throughout the home, from the floors to the walls to the cabinets. It's very well designed and built space. I would love to go back and bring my wife and kids, they would absolutely love it! But they may all want to stay upstairs in the loft since it's perfect for young kids. It's close enough however to all the things you might want to do while staying at the property like Kayaking, horseback riding, hanging out downtown on the boardwalk or touring the sugar plantations, which I did all of, and loved it! I HIGHLY recommend you consider staying at the Greenheart Lodge. It's an absolute steal at the asking price. You can thank me later.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, sightseeing, pet owners, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with young children, girls getaway, tourists without a car, adventure seekers.

I arrived late on a tuesday and left 8 days later on a thursday morning. In that time, upon waking to the view about a mile off the caribbean sea would sit in the hammock on the front porch of the second floor. It brought perfect seclusion to a good book, and a beautiful way of collecting my thoughts. The house was clean, comfortable and just the kind place nestled in the rain forrest I imagined myself being in coming from a rural area myself. An absolutely perfect get away, and the donkey roaming in the pasture near by was friendly as can be.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, sightseeing, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with young children, girls getaway, adventure seekers.

I had the privilege of spending a week at this awesome location. It is a beautiful home and has a very relaxing atmosphere, but probably the most amazing part of staying here was interacting with the genuine, caring, personable, helpful Hostess! I read the listing description and it is accurate. The photos do realistically reflect what I saw and experienced there. If you like peace and quiet in a mountain-top setting overlooking the ocean, this is the place for you. It is not far from Christiansted or Fredriksted, and from this house you can reach anywhere on the island within 45 minutes (if my memory serves me correctly). I have two things to mention that were not mentioned in the listing. On St. Croix, is hotter in the summer, and if you are a person who needs air-conditioning, then you would want to know that this property does not have that. Personally, I was comfortable sleeping with a fan on me when I stayed there last summer. Secondly, you may want to know that as a rule, the roads are not that great in St. Croix, and the further you get from the main roads, the worse the roads get. The road to this property is no exception. As you get closer to the house, the road turns to hard-packed dirt and becomes quite rugged, rutted, and bumpy, but when you arrive at the house, you will most likely see that the journey has been worth it! I highly recommend that you seriously consider staying at this property. I don't think you will be disappointed!Recommended for: Families with teenagers, sightseeing, pet owners, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with young children, girls getaway, tourists without a car, adventure seekers, people with disabilities.

About the owner: I am a filmmaker, writer, and public speaker. When I am not hostessing at the lodge, I travel internationally giving presentations on personal growth and grief and loss. I love cooking and baking, kayaking, horseback riding, and snorkeling. I especially love creating memorable experiences for guests who come to visit our island paradise.
Why the Owner Chose North Shore:
I love the unspoiled beauty of St Croix. I have lived on the island since 2005, when I came here to visit family. I felt at home the minute I set foot from the plane and have never changed my mind. I love exploring the lesser known spots on the island. Some of my favorite "secret" beaches are so unpopulated, that I have, at times, been the only person on them.
Our lodge is remote enough to be quiet and relaxing, but close enough to beaches, shopping and other activities to be very convenient.
The Unique Benefits at this House:
I love the walk down to the ocean from our lodge. Within 15 minutes (one mile) I can be peeling off my backpack and tshirt, pulling on my fins and snorkel and taking off through the water to Lobster Reef.
An ancient donkey trail takes off from our property and winds up through the "bush" to the interior hills of the island. In centuries past, this donkey trail was an important travel route. Our own donkey, Eyore, loves to wind his way down the first segment of the trail to the creek for a morning drink.
At the beginning of our road are the ruins of Rust Op Twist, an old sugar mill. The whole area including our property was, at one time, part of this plantation. The name, Rust Op Twist mean "place of retreat" in Danish. (Hint: these ruins are open for visitation and are a wonderful place to take memorable photos.)
Our lodge is at the end of our road, backing up to the hillside. We are one of the most secure properties on the island because of the way we are situated. This adds to the quiet of our setting with deer, mongoose, hummingbirds, frogs, kestrels, doves, iguanas, and other friendly island creatures visiting frequently. There are no snakes on our island!
