If you enjoy hiking, camping and the great outdoors, the Treehouse Chalet is a wonderful vacation destination! Recently renovated with a brand new master suite, this cozy treehouse offers a relaxing home base from which to pursue all of your favorite outdoor activities. It is refined and modern yet completely unpretentious.
With 2 bedrooms and 2 baths, this is an ideal space for couples traveling together or families with children aged 5+. The Treehouse Chalet is an A-frame home with a private master suite built right below the 'A' structure.
The A-frame boasts an interior of 2x6 tongue-in-groove wooden boards from front-to-back, floor to ceiling. For the steeply pitched roof that means single boards of 20 feet in length! You just have to see it to appreciate it.
Located in the A-frame is:
-- a cozy kitchen with hand crafted cabinet doors featuring handles carved from rhododendron branches collected on the property;
-- a dining counter made from pecan wood harvested from our north Florida back yard —and milled and crafted locally in Balsam, NC;
-- a full bathroom with tub;
-- a living room/seating area with futon sofa, additional seating, tables, bench toy box, flat screen TV, DVD/VCR, and cable modem with wireless router;
-- Jotul wood stove
-- two very unique, ~4-ft high skylight-style windows which cantilever open on a horizontal axis, bringing the sounds of the rushing creek, singing birds and the fresh air to you when you're inside;
-- beautiful pinewood floors;
-- a rustic wooden chandelier to illuminate it all;
-- a loft bedroom overlooking it all the chalet with bright lighting, double bed, high-quality bedding, screened window and window fan for the hotter months;.
The private-entrance master suite, eight steps below the A-frame, features:
-- a huge deck with large picnic table for outdoor meals;
-- large, screened casement windows;
-- double bed with high-quality bedding;
-- accent paneling made from pecan trees harvested from our FL home, milled locally in Balsam, NC;
-- seating area with dresser, and remote-controlled TV;
-- complete bathroom with a new tiled shower featuring shelves made from stone pulled from out of the creek on the property;
-- beautiful pinewood floors,
-- warm, pinewood ceilings
-- inset lighting
-- washer & dryer facilities
-- large closet and shelving area for clothes storage.
Doesn't it sound fantastic inside? But that's not all. You have even more to look forward to outside! We provide an outdoor grill for additional cooking options and by the creek is an outdoor fire pit where you can responsibly enjoy all the hot dogs and s’mores you can fit on a stick -- just like camping! A few fire pit implements such as skewers are provided (but if you want to cook on the campfire, please bring your own camp cookware...we don't provide that...at least not yet!!)
We are happy to share with you our homey family getaway. We hope you will make many wonderful memories at the Treehouse Chalet!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The Treehouse Chalet easily accommodates 4 guests, and can accommodate up to 6, but we suggest that this only be attempted when the party includes young children. Total square feet of 'inside space' is about 950. We have provided a child's air mattress to guests before, and the futon is often used for sleeping (adults or children). We reserve the right to refuse rental to parties we deem to be too large for the accommodations. Our concern is wear and tear on the unit as well as your personal comfort!
Caveat: Because a) the master suite is separated from the A-Frame frame and b) the loft bedroom is only accessible by ladder, we usually do not recommend families with children younger than 5 stay at the Treehouse Chalet (this is a personal choice, not a hard and fast rule.) A child's room monitor is provided for split sleeping arrangements.
We spent the labor day weekend in this chalet with another family. We slept in the loft with a pack-n-play next to the bed for our 6 month old and our friends slept in the master suite with their 18 month old in a pack-n-play stashed in the laundry room. Cozy space for the 6 of us! The owners made us feel extremely welcome and offered extra amenities for our children (baby carrier, extra pack-n-play, places to hike, etc.). The details put into renovations were put in with plenty of care and our overall experience was great! We did some trail running on nearby Hemphill Bald and took a family hike off the Blueridge Parkway at Graveyard Fields. We would definitely escape to this chalet again!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, romantic getaway, families with young children.
Owner response: Glad you had a great time. We would love to see you stay again.
A charming cabin in a beautiful setting with the sound of the rippling water while you out on the balcony or laying in bed. Very relaxing!!! It is in a convenient location to visit many of the quaint towns around or just lounge around or do some hiking or other adventures. We enjoyed our out the back door hike and finding the waterfall. The weather was great during our stay, cool evenings and mornings for eating breakfast and dinners out on the balcony. Thanks for sharing your little chalet with us. We have told several friends and we hope to be back on our next trip to the mountains.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, families with young children, sightseeing.
Owner response: Thanks for your kind words! We hope you stay again ~
We really enjoyed our stay. The house is not far from the exit off of Hwy 40. It seemed everything was a short scenic drive away. Although, once you get to the house it feels like your away from everything. The fire by the stream was really nice. The house gave us everything we needed and not having cable tv did not bother us. We rented redbox movies for late evening entertainment. We hope to rent again in the future.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, sightseeing.
Owner response: We would love to have you again! Thanks for sharing your experience with others!! For those who are curious, we do have TV content through Roku streaming devices, which includes a subscription to HuluPlus, Netflix, Amazon Video On Demand and access to Vudu. Also included is Roku video game content (geared to young children) and a small library of movie titles (VHS and DVD) on premises.
This home has been renovated with lots of love, pride and attention to detail. It was spotless and just as described by the detailed information packet provided by the owners. I found it beautiful in it's simplicity and functionality. My husband and I loved sitting on the lower deck in the evening watching the light fade and the stars come out over the trees with a glass of wine to the tune of the babbling creek below. We didn't feel too guilty because we burned all the calories off climbing the 42 stairs to the main level :-) The kitchen has all the essentials and we loved the pecan counters. I enjoyed looking through the American Cabin book. It is clear that the owners have created their own American tradition for their family. We had a bit of a learning curve using the ROKU box but once we figured it out we enjoyed the free movies. A wonderful place to stay for 4 - 6 people for the price of one hotel room!!! Note: This is not a good place for anyone who has problems with stairs or needs cable and luxury accommodations. The cabin does not have air conditioning, however, even though the temps reached near 90 a couple days it is tucked back in the woods and there is generally a decent breeze so it wasn't unpleasant.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, girls getaway, sightseeing.
We have been guests at the Tree House Chalet twice and have enjoyed ourselves tremendously. The owners have a journal that highlight some of the many activities available in and around Maggie Valley. You will find hiking trails right outside the cabin door that can take you to a stream that flows underground in places. A short drive will bring you to trailheads along the BRP for hikes with beautiful photo opportunities here and there. Dining in the area can vary from home cooking to elegant cuisine with many breweries and wineries in the area to add to your experience. The weather is generally cooler in Maggie Valley than in surrounding areas - a refreshing escape from the heat wave that stifled much of the country this year. We had a great time hiking in the rain and sharpening our photography skills on Hemphill Bald. Black Mountain and Asheville support large artist communities and there are many shops to wander through while recuperating from a vigorous hike or deciding where next to dine. Back at the cabin the world disappears, the stream fills the woods with a soft hush as it cascades down the mountain, and the hummingbirds buzz around the feeder. Our family will be back again, and I will recommend this place to my friends.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, sightseeing.
The two of us loved our stay here. We came to getaway from the busy city life, to do some resting, relaxing and to enjoy nature. We were so pleased that we didn't want to leave. The "Treehouse Chalet" is located about 30 minutes from the Blue Ridge Parkway, 40 minutes from downtown Asheville and 20 minutes from downtown Waynesville. The drives don't seem that long though because the scenery along the way is breathtaking. The owners had plenty of hiking maps in the cabin which we used to find waterfall hikes. We recommend the Graveyard Fields and the Catawba Falls hikes. Both hikes gave us plenty of exercise but weren't too challenging. The "out the door" hike was really fun too...we had our own private waterfall. We took a day trip to Brevard and stopped at Looking Glass Falls and Sliding rock which were really fun. We also drove the Blue Ridge Parkway and stopped at Waterrock Knob, which was beautiful. We took a day to visit the Biltmore House and Asheville too. There are so many things to do in this area that a week isn't long enough. The cabin is the perfect size for a couple or small family. The main part of the building is the kitchen, living area, full bathroom and lofted bedroom. It was more than enough room for the two of us. Plus, downstairs there's a new bedroom (with full bathroom). Everything was really nice. Since we visited in the the middle of Summer, I was nervous that the cabin would be too hot (there's no a/c). I was very pleased that the temperature never got above 81 degrees and was down in the low 60s at night. One night we closed the windows because it was too chilly. I would recommend this stay for up to four people (maybe a small family)...it might get crowded any more than that. It's the perfect size for two people. It would be fun for two couples too. We definitely want to come back next year!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, romantic getaway, families with young children.
Owner response: Thank you for staying! So glad you had fun! You guys sure packed a lot of fun into your stay; Come back whenever you like!
Our stay at the Treehouse Chalet was excellent! We highly recommend this vacation rental. The owners accommodated us, even though we had a 22 month old son. They let us borrow their pack 'n play and also child's hiking backpack, which was very useful during our stay! It felt like home and we loved the sound of the stream, how you could hike out the front door and the beautiful greenery. We did not use the loft, but could see how it could be perfect for older kids. We loved how the entire cabin was wood used from their home in Florida and also the structure of everything-you could tell it was well-made and made with love! Also they left a binder full of activities to do during the day. It was only 30 minutes away from almost everything- Asheville, Pisgah National Forest, Blueridge Parkway, etc. They used accurate descriptions of the activities that were very helpful indeed. Thank you!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, sightseeing.
We spent a lovely vacation at the Treehouse. The accommodations were perfect for the needs of our 2 small families. The rooms were thoughtfully arranged and the furniture comfortable and inviting. The kitchen was well stocked and the laundry made it easy to keep up with 3 active kids. It was so nice to have all the conveniences of home; making it easy for us to prepare most of our meals at the chalet where we could take our time and savor each other's company and the beautiful surroundings. We quickly fell into a routine of enjoying lazy mornings on the deck drinking coffee, listening to the creek below and soaking up the view of the treetops. Afternoons were spent touring the area or hiking. Our day trips included visits to Pisgah National Forest, Smoky Mountain National Park, Asheville, Waynesville and Brevard. Maps and literature were conveniently available for planning and we found these destinations to be within easy reach. The owners had thought of absolutely everything to make our stay relaxing and trouble-free. We look forward to many more visits! Thanks again!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway, sightseeing.
My family of four enjoyed 5 perfect days at the Treehouse last summer. We found the cabin to be beautifully situated on top of the mountain with a roaring stream down below. We enjoyed all of our meals outdoors. The kitchen was perfect for preparing all meals and it was very convenient to do laundry on site. The children slept well in the loft and we were more than comfortable in the master suite. We cannot wait to visit for two weeks this summer!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, sightseeing.
Owner info
Year Purchased: 2006
About the owner: Our active family enjoys everything the great outdoors has to offer! We purchased the Treehouse Chalet as a means to build memories, year after year, in a special place which is far different than the environment we enjoy in Florida, our current home. Our children are thrilled to go fishing, hiking, tubing, camping, swimming and sightseeing throughout Western North Carolina. There are many early mornings we leave the Treehouse for an adventure and don't get back until after sundown. In 2012, we will be opening the cabin to renters previously unknown to us for the first time. The home is very special to us, and we are pleased to be sharing it with people who value the same things that we do and who can appreciate the special setting we are trying to create. Our motivations for renting are not profit. We merely want to break even. Anything we clear over taxes, insurance, power, utilities, and maintenance costs will go into improvements at the Treehouse Chalet. In fact, after your visit with us, we'd love your suggestions!
Why the Owner Chose Waynesville:
We chose to purchase a vacation rental in this area for the climate, topography, biodiversity, geographic interest, accessibility to numerous national and state parks, and countless opportunities for outdoor recreation.
The Unique Benefits at this Chalet:
I love waking up on a June or July morning and drinking a cup of hot coffee or cocoa on the porch....while wearing a sweatshirt and jammies, and wrapped in a blanket because it's so COLD!
