This colorful, comfortable, artsy home is close to everything Boulder has to offer. Make this your place to settle for a few days or a few months no matter what your reasons are for visiting Boulder.
First, about the house: While originally built in the 1930s in the older, established part of Boulder, it has been remodeled to bring in contemporary materials and feel. This home has 1800 square feet, and a spacious and private backyard and patio. Awake in the master bed to a view out the large bay window of trees, the early light of the sun illuminating Flagstaff Mountain, or to stars at night. Luxuriate in the large jetted tub in the master bath, surrounded by tile and natural stone, his and her vanities with handmade copper sinks, and a beautifully tiled European shower. In the living room you can watch your favorite sports team on the 55inch HDTV, watch movies on Netflix or record your top shows on TiVo and enjoy them at your leisure, while being warmed by the cozy heat of the gas stove. The kitchen is fully equipped, has all stainless appliances, and is connected to the dining room with a semi-circular bar with stools. The dining room also enjoys the remote-controlled heat of a gas stove.
We have equipped this home with conveniences and toys, from the essential high speed wireless internet to the simple pleasure of a hot tap for instant hot water for tea, from the exercise bike to the electronic piano. The book shelves are filled, there are weekly and monthly magazine subscriptions, and there is a good library of yoga tapes, all for your perusal and enjoyment. There is a computer and printer available for your use should you need to get some work done during your stay.
The outdoor environment has often been called a sanctuary. The backyard provides surprising privacy, given the urban location. In the winter when the leaves are gone you have clear views of the Flatirons and Sugarloaf Mountain, when the trees are in full leaf, one can revel in the greenery while grilling on the patio. The house is surrounded by gardens that bloom from April to October. Deer are often napping in the grass after dining on the tulips!
We have a property manager and gardener onsite in the two small apartments in the front of the house. These apartments have separate entrances and no impact on the sense of privacy in the house.
Second: about the location. You can walk five blocks in each direction and land in a unique and wonderful place. To the north you'll land on Pearl Street, with its walking mall lined with shops, galleries, restaurants and pubs. To the east CU awaits , with everything an inquiring mind might want to access, To the west you will quickly hit a hiking trail up Flagstaff Mountain and Eben G. Fine Park along Boulder Creek. And to the south you'll find Chautauqua Park, where live music fills the summer nights, and countless mountain trails lead to vistas, a cave, or rock climbing. We are just three blocks away from Boulder Creek and the Boulder Creek Path. This path heads a few miles up into the foothills alongside the river, and out several miles to the east. Alfalfa’s Market, a Whole Foods competitor, is just a few blocks down the hill. Being car-free is not only easy here, but quite desirable. Boulder is also a biker’s haven, with bike paths heading out in all directions. However, if you need public transport to other places you may need to go or want to visit, such as NIST, NOAA, NCAR, Denver or Lake Eldora ski area, a bus stop is just a few blocks away.
Third: about Boulder. We assume that you are looking at home rentals in Boulder because you already have a reason for coming here. No matter why you’re coming, we can help you mine what else Boulder has to offer, from great hiking and biking trails, to the best restaurants, to special places at certain times (like birding at Walden Ponds or sunset at Vista Point on Flagstaff Road). We’ve lived in Boulder for 66 years combined and know the secret nooks and crannies as well as the best and the brightest Boulder has to offer.
Please let us know how we can help you make your stay as comfortable and enjoyable as possible.

We rented this house for a week in April 2013 and loved it. This is a reallyi charming and beautifully decorated house minutes away from the Pearl Street mall in one direction, the U of C in another and the mountains in another. Why anyone would stay in a hotel when you can rent this house for less is beyond me. The master bathroom is huge and luxurious, the master bedroom is bright, sunny and very comfortable. The kitchen and eating areas are colorful and modern and the outside patio and back yard are fantastic. We arrived and saw a welcome package with wine, fruit and crackers and a resource booklet telling us everything we needed to know about Boulder with restaurants, shopping and events. Bikes were available, but, alas, we just didn't get our act together to use them. If we return to Boulder, this is where we plan to stay again. Don't hesitate to rent this house. The owners are amazingly attentive to any questions. Also, while I am an electronic reader, their book collection is great. Internet service is fast and they have a giant television if you want to just veg out.Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, people with disabilities, tourists without a car, age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.

The home was immaculate and quaint. Beautiful back yard was wonderful for meals and relaxing. The homeowner was very good with communication. We all felt very much at home which enhanced our overall visit. The location was exactly as described and we enjoyed the close proximity to pearl street and the magnificent hiking up to the flat irons. Overall a wonderful visit and a wonderful property. We will look forward to going back.Recommended for: Sightseeing, tourists without a car, age 55+, romantic getaway, girls getaway.

Simply put, we made an excellent choice when we hit on Molly and Dick's rental. We are discerning travelers, but where to start? The house is within a five-minute walk to Pearl Street, which, if you have never been to Boulder, is a tremendous outdoor mall/street area. It is lined with numerous and excellent places to eat -- and drink. Try Trident, for the best lattes my wife and I have ever had. We spent several nights walking up and down this roughly-seven-block street (all traffic forbidden), shopping, getting dinner, watching street performers, and more. Back to the house -- there is a beautiful garden out back where we spent time relaxing in the cooler evenings. The house is beautifully appointed, clean, modern and lovely. In some other reviews, there is mention about there being two apartments up front. It is a complete non-issue. We never heard them, not once, and saw the gentleman who lives in one and who takes care of the grounds (and QUITE beautifully) only one time. Molly and Dick have two bicycles for you to use, which both saves money and is essential for anyone truly wanting to experience Boulder. The hiking and biking trails begin literally only a couple of minutes from the house. If you are larger people, the bed in the master is a Queen, and if you are from Orlando like we are there is no a/c but the fans work quite well during the day (it is hot in Colorado in June-July) and the open windows at night cooled off the house. The electronics are all there, anything you could need. Re Boulder, check out Awe-Struck Adventures (get to their website) and talk to Kelly -- she is a fantastic guide for a number of trips, including biking followed by yoga and a tremendous lunch. We also went white-water rafting, which is a must (go early in the season before the water levels drop if possible). The bottom line -- we would stay at Molly and Dick's again in a heartbeat.Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway.

We rented this property for our daughter's graduation from CU. I wish we had found it four years ago!! The location is blocks from campus and Pearl Street. Great hiking, for any level of ambition, is a short drive away. The home itself was spotless, charming and eclectic, reflecting the owner's obvious love for travel. Four adults slept at the house, but we had a large group of family and friends staying in the area. The property was well equipped for family breakfasts and BBQs. I particularly loved the spacious backyard and patio. The two points I would consider as a potential renter are 1) this house really is not for smaller children. There are a lot of nicnacs and memorabilia ..most breakable and irreplaceable .. "child-proofing" would be difficult. 2) the description might be changed, but the actual rental is not the entire house. There are several apartments in the structure, and we were in the back half of the first floor of the home. I never saw or heard the tenants, but was surprised when we arrived.Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, girls getaway.
Owner response: A clarification: in the front of the house, we have two small apartments with a separate entrance. Each has a single tenant, one of whom is our groundskeeper. Only one room of the house shares a wall and ceiling with the other apartments. While we appreciate the concern for our knick knacks in the review above, there is little that is breakable and nothing that we would be heartbroken to lose. We want our guests to feel comfortable at the house, and have removed irreplacable items. Of course we hope people will take care, but we also understand that accidents can happen.

My wife and I were taking our daughter and a friend to CU Boulder for orientation, and thought that this property would be a good fit for the situation. The total experience was much better than we expected. The owners were very accommodating, and put great thought and care into our comfort and enjoyment of their home, and the Boulder experience. Everything that we could have wanted or needed had already been considered, and was available. The photos on the website do not do justice to the spotless charm of this home.. There is a binder available with information about the house, and the area. Everything from how to use the wireless printing, to where to go for a good meal is in there. The kitchen was well equipped and the master bath was luxurious. We were able to walk to CU, and Pearl Street. The girls borrowed the mountain bikes and explored the Canyon Creek trail into and out of Boulder. We enjoyed morning coffee on a beautiful patio in a nice peaceful yard. A wonderful library made me feel like I knew my hosts and would have been friends if we lived nearby. All the amenities you could want were provided for, and everything was clean and comfortable. We felt like we were at home, and that, I believe, is the true testament to the thoughtfulness and care that Molly and Dick have put into their guest experience. I hope to stay there again, and would highly recommend this place to anyone visiting Boulder.Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, tourists without a car, age 55+, families with teenagers, pet owners, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.

This property served as a great base for our stay during a triathlon training camp in Boulder this summer. It was conveniently located to Pearl Street restaurants and was situated in a quiet neighborhood close to campus, which worked well for our first time in town. The house was really spacious for the four of us (two couples), and the backyard was incredibly peaceful. The owners were incredibly gracious and responsive throughout the whole process, and you can tell they really take care of it as their home and not just another rental property. Our only complaints were that it got up to 100 degrees and the a/c window unit and fan weren't quite enough to keep us cool, but it was manageable. The master bedroom is gorgeous and huge. Thanks for a great stay!Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children.
Owner response: So sorry this visit coincided with a brutal, record-breaking heat wave. We purchased two more fans to help cope, but if these higher temperatures become the norm we will install a swamp cooler or central air. Boulder tends toward more moderate summer weather, and there have been years when we do not even turn on the window cooling unit all summer. But the times may be changin.

Owner info
Year Purchased: 1986
About the owner: I am a retired high school social studies teacher and my sweetie, Dick, is a semi-retired theatrical lighting designer and former artistic director of the Colorado Shakespeare Festival. We have traveled much throughout our lives, and are enjoying even more travel in our retirement. As a geography and history teacher, I always felt that travel complemented my teaching, giving me a first-hand experience of what I was trying to bring alive for my students. Dick and I have enjoyed many a VRBO experience in our travels. We have found that staying in people’s homes or vacation rentals, walking the neighborhoods, shopping in the local markets, and taking local transportation has connected us more to our new environment than we may have felt had we stayed in hotels. By living in neighborhoods, rather than in tourist districts, we come to feel more of the rhythm of a place. Typically, the VRBO owners have given us greater insight into the area than we would get from a hotel concierge. Having enjoyed VRBO experiences in such places as Valparaiso, Chile, Mendoza, Argentina, and San Miguel de Allende, Mexico, we have decided to offer our own home, and hope to create similar experiences for people who want to spend time in Boulder.
Why the Owner Chose Boulder:
Initially we chose Boulder because of the university. I came to school here in 1979, and Dick began his work with the Shakespeare Festival in 1982. It has been home ever since! Boulder has just everything we could want in a place to call home. Long ago the far-sighted Boulder government chose to wrap the town in open space, so hiking, biking, fishing, and birding opportunities exist around the town instead of urban sprawl. That kind of focus on preservation and conscious city planning brought us one of the first walking malls in the country, and a lengthy and beautiful multi-use path along the Boulder Creek. With the Flatirons as a backdrop and mountain park hiking trails traversing the foothills from the north to the south, it can feel like living in the mountains while enjoying the amenities of city life.
We love Boulder’s small town charm with its big city cultural opportunities. Music, dance, theater, lecture series, film festivals, scientific conferences, and more crowd the docket for one’s attention. If we’re ever bored in Boulder, it is because we’ve chosen to be. Denver is only thirty minutes away, and we enjoy their expanded entertainment offerings as well. The Denver Center for the Performing Arts is an easy drive and offers world-class opera, symphonies, Broadway shows, and fabulous theater. Both towns compete for best restaurant accolades. And being near Denver affords us close proximity to the Denver International Airport.
We also love the climate here. While there are four distinct seasons each one offers up its beauty and outdoor opportunities without ever going to extremes. We’re addicted to Boulder’s 300 days of sunshine a year, and enjoy the changeability of the weather. Our fairly rare storms and gray skies are welcome because we know they won’t last. We enjoy the mood change and a rare excuse to stay indoors.
While we love to travel, we also LOVE coming home to Boulder.
