Amsterdam apartment description
Wonderful 16th century 80sq meter apartment in the oldest street of Amsterdam with a spectacular view on a typical Amsterdam canal. Surprisingly quiet at just a stone's throw away from the Central station with very good access to the public transport including the high speed train ‘Thalys’ that can take you directly to Paris in just 3hrs and 18 minutes. The apartment is situated close to all the major museums such as: The Van Gogh museum, the Rijks museum , the Hermitage etc. The building itself is a monument and often seen on postcards and calendars for its unique appearance.
The building has a great spacious entrance hall with a marble floor, which welcomes you to our unique property. On your left you will find the elevator that brings you to the apartment situated on the 2nd floor on the waterside. A great place to start your discovery of Amsterdam with!
Please be aware of the fact that, although Holland has no mountains, Amsterdam houses can have very high and steep staircases to climb. If you don’t want to climb these staircases a couple of times a day with bags and luggage, you might consider renting an apartment with an elevator…
The kitchen and the bathroom are recently renewed.
For a 3d person we provide a Japanese 'Futon'
Optional: If we are not to busy at the Operahouse and we do have the time for it we can provide you an organic breakfast. (authentic Japanese style breakfast is also available) Please ask about the price and more on your arrival day.
IMPORTANT NOTE: No extra cleaning fee will be charged!! The price you see is therefore an all included price!
Please contact the owner by email for further information.
You can Email and talk to us in Japanese, English, German and Dutch and we do understand quite a bit of French too.
Our pictures were NOT taken with a wide-angle lens to make the rooms look bigger. Please have a look at our children policy! Please have a look at our minimum age policy!
Oh and one more thing....
if you are young (or older) a bit wild and looking for a party place please don't choose this apartment. We will not tolerate this. There are plenty of places in Amsterdam where you can go crazy but not at our place...we do hope you understand.
Actually we don't like this and I am not sure if it always has to do with age but all we want to say is that if you are young (or older) a bit wild and looking for a party place please don't choose this apartment. We will not tolerate this. There are plenty of places in Asterdam where you can go crazy but not at our place!!!...moreless
Non Smoking Only:
We are very strict on this one!!! There is a smoke alarm in the apartment....moreless
Not Suitable For Children:
We are a bit worried because the windows can open all the way and a somewhat bigger child that moves around by itself could maybe open them at the risk of, when unattendet, falling out. It's NOT because we don't like children. Even for smaller children we can provide a crib and a chair. Smaller children (crawling) are not in danger since they cannot reach the window opener....moreless
We had been traveling through Paris and Bruges before reaching Amsterdam, but staying here was better than coming home. The apartment is located conveniently close to Amsterdam Centraal and is very easy to find. Tomoko welcomed us inside from the bustling city street. We were quickly in awe of how quiet and beautiful the 16th century lobby was in contrast to the noise and traffic just outside. After taking the elevator to the second floor, she walked us around the flat, room-by-room, and introduced all the features and nuances specific to the apartment. The home is beautifully decorated, sophisticated, and quiet (even with all the activity from the city just outside the windows). The unique slippers were a wonderful touch.
The apartment is well supplied with everything guests might need with several luxurious and comforting extras! The bedroom is very quiet, warm, and extremely comfortable: absolutely perfect after a long day of sightseeing, traveling, or a hard day’s work. The fresh ikebana and tatami space facing the large windows overlooking the water was beautiful and great for meditating. My favorite spot, however, was lounging on the couch to read or watch the activity of the city below with the windows open. They also have a fantastic collection of books on art, music, history and zen.
This apartment was like a quiet retreat with the option of diving straight into the pulse of the city. It’s a perfect escape to recharge and find your center.

About the owner: My Japanese wife and I both work as singers at the Netherlands Opera. We lived in the apartment for six years with joy but recently moved to a bigger apartment next door. We are very happy living in a monumental building at the most central location of Amsterdam in such a historical neighborhood.
We speak English, Japanese, German Dutch and some French to be able to help you.
We both love traveling and we frequently visit countries in Asia., such as Japan, Thailand, Korea, Vietnam, China and Laos.
Why the Owner Chose Amsterdam: It is at walking distance from our work at the Opera house. Just a three minute walk from the central station. A twenty-minute train ride from Schiphol Airport. Besides that it is located at the most amazing place in Amsterdam with a great view!
The Unique Benefits at this Apartment: The heart of Amsterdam's oldes quarter offers you many views of the traditional houses and canals as wel as many old shopping streets, China town, brown Cafes and many many restaurants. Not far from the major museums and shopping streets.
But the view of the apartment actually is the best! Sitting in your chair watching the boats in front and below of you and to see all the people across the water making their way into town. In the morning when the town is quiet it is nice to see all the activities aspecially around Chinatown.
