The apartment was a advertised. It was very comfortable and the location is great. The apartment is very quiet. We appreciated the washer and dryer. The Central Train Station is a short walk away and a number of trams and bus originate from that location so it is very easy to get to any part of the city. We enjoyed looking through the windows at the canal below. There are a number of restaurants within a block or two. Tomoko and Harry are wonderful hosts. There was wine and candies waiting for us. We would definitely stay there if we come to Amsterdam again.

My two daughters and I enjoyed a wonderful time in Harry and Tomoko's charming apartment. Every thing about our experience there was special and memorable. Harry and Tomoko made us feel very welcomed by providing several thoughtful touches: a vase of tulips, fine chocolates, a bottle of wine for me and grape juice for my daughters along with a warm note. Their apartment is clean, bright, and in the most wonderful location--the very center of town, 3 minutes walk from both the train station and the Dam. Despite being so well located and surrounded by bustling streets, the apartment is quiet and private. The view over one of the central canals makes one really feel that one is in Amsterdam! We feel grateful to have found such a terrific place to stay and very much appreciated Harry and Tomoko's efforts to exceed our expectations. Should we ever visit Amsterdam again, this is where we will gladly stay!

Loved this bright apartment, which is a peaceful oasis in a bustling neighborhood. The decor was cheerfully eclectic, and everything was very clean and in perfect working order. The owners were personable and helpful, and we loved their welcoming gifts. It was a relief to know they were right downstairs even though we didn't need anything while we were there. The location is an easy walk from the train station, which is viewable from the floor to ceiling windows overlooking a canal. We felt happy and satisfied to have selected this modern, comfortable space to rent for our 25th wedding anniversary celebration so far away from home.

My husband and I recently spent a week in this lovely apartment. We found it to be exactly as advertised and absolutely ideal for our exploration of the city and, because of its proximity to the central rail station, the surrounding countryside. Between the efficiency at Schipol Airport, the rail system and the location of the apartment, we were at the apartment within one and half hours after landing. It was remarkably easy. The owners of the apartment are very accommodating and helpful. They even helped us get tickets to opening night of an opera. The apartment itself is decorated in a clean, spare style that was very calming and comfortable. In spite of its location in the lively center of town, once in the apartment all is quiet. I would recommend this apartment without qualification and would certainly return to it if we return to Amsterdam.

We loved our week in Amsterdam and could not have stayed in a better apartment. We could walk everywhere, and Tomoko and Harry have thought of everything. They were wonderful hosts, and left us such a nice welcome package including a handwritten note. The apartment was very quiet, very clean and the kitchen had great equipment. We loved coming home to this lovely apartment after a long day of walking the beautiful canals of Amsterdam. The experience made us want to return to Amsterdam -- a week was not long enough.

Conveniently situated only several hundred yards from the Station Centraal. Elevator makes it easy on older travelers with luggage like us. The Japanese toilet may have spoiled me forever. The owners could not have been more hospitable or helpful. Two bottles of wine and some chocolates to take the edge off of traveling to get there and nice Nespresso coffee to start the next day. Grocery stores nearby and although location is in the midst of the tourist area, it is a quiet apartment. If ever in Amsterdam, this is an ideal place to stay.

Owner response: Thank you Reid for your nice comments. We have to say that if there were a price for giving the apartment back to us in the cleanest way you can you would be the number 1 ! Thank you both so very much. It is so nice to see and feel the respect that people can pay to this lovely old building!! We are so happy that you had a good time! Very much hoping to seeing you again! Very best wishes, Tomoko and Harry.

The heart of Amsterdam, everything is quick walk, central station 2.5 blocks away, easy access in and out by train, just wheel your suitecases from the train. Owners provide basically a home away from home. Nice touches in apartment for your welcome. They take total pride in you being happy while your there. Apartment is very large for European City centre, biggest I've ever stayed in, very spacious. I would stay here again in a heart beat....Tomoko (owner) made our vacation with your hospitality.

We stayed for 4 nights, 2 adults & a 7-year-old-child. Location in the center of Amsterdam, it is true that it is a busy street but no noise at all in the apartment. Great views overlooking the water and Central Station. The apartment is very clean, and has everything you need...and more. The owners left some complimentary chocolates, nespresso coffee, biscuits, fruit and wine for us. Very cosy place to stay. My daughter had a lot of fun sleeping in a Japanese futon and playing the piano. I would totally reccommend it.

Owner response: Thank you very much Patricia for you comment! Glad your girl liked it as well. Thank you for taking good care of our apartment! Looking forward to seeing you again. Very best wishes, Tomoko and Harry

We stayed in this apartment for a week in July 2012, and could not have been more pleased with the experience. Our highlights: * We were a little bit unsure about paying in full ahead of time, as this was our first experience renting for vacation like this. But we did, and things could not have gone smoother. The landlords were waiting for us at the apartment as planned, despite our flight being delayed. The apartment was very true to the photographs and description in the listing. And our security deposit was returned in full via PayPal within hours of our departure. * The apartment worked so much better for us -- a couple with a baby -- than a hotel room would have. In particular, we appreciated the modern kitchen and bathroom, the size of the bathroom and living room, the overall cleanliness, comfort and maintenance of the apartment, and the convenient location. It was not far at all to lug our bags from the train station, and a very central starting point for outings on foot or by tram to pretty much any neighborhood in the city. Also, the elevator was a great help with a stroller and heavy luggage. (There is a small set of wide, normal stairs in the lobby, but in Amsterdam that is like nothing.) It's worth noting that this is in a very touristy-feeling area rather than on a quiet residential street such as you might find in the Jordaan neighborhood. But it was more central and felt very safe walking around. And despite the busy-ness of the area in the afternoons and evenings, the apartment itself doesn't face the street but the canal, so it was totally, totally quiet inside, day and night. * Lastly and perhaps best of all, the landlords here were very thoughtful hosts. We had asked if they could provide a crib for our stay. We found that set up, as well as a highchair we had not even thought to ask for, and a map of the city marked with things like recommended cafes and stroller-friendly grocery stores. Also, on our first morning we woke up to find they had left baby-friendly laundry detergent (which they thought of) and extra coffee (which we had mentioned we drink often) outside our door, though we had fully expected to have to shop for these things ourselves. This was extra helpful because I found the Dutch descriptions on the detergent bottles very difficult to decipher when I saw them at the grocery store. We loved staying here and would highly recommend it to family or friends, because of the apartment itself as well as the landlords

Thank you so much, Harry and Tomoko, for your terrific hospitality during our stay in Amsterdam. For potential renters, this was our first time using VRBO -- we wanted to stay in an apartment for our week-long visit since we were bringing our one-year-old son. We found the location very convenient to Centraal Station and walkable to many of the city's attractions. Harry and Tomoko greeted us at the door despite our flight delay and even helped with our heavy bags! The apartment was beautiful and offered a number of conveniences (nice kitchen, large bathroom for Europe, washer/dryer). We loved the rear-facing view of the canal and didn't notice any noise in the apartment, either from the street or from neighbors. Our hosts left several nice treats, including chocolates, red and white wine, Nespresso, bath soaps, etc. We had a wonderful stay and wouldn't hesitate to recommend this apartment!

The Apartment: Harry greeted us at the door and helped us with our luggage up to the apartment. The elevator made it easy to get our bags up to the correct floor. He was extremely nice and gave a thorough tour of the apartment. Tomoko provided us with a map of the area with highlighted shops and cafes. That was a big help to us. The photos of the apartment and building/area are accurate, but do not do this place justice! The apartment's furnishings are very nice and well kept, as are the appliances. Everything was spotless. The view from the back window is amazing! We enjoyed leaving the windows open and relaxing in the apartment, listening to the sounds of the city while enjoying the wine and snacks that Harry and Tomoko left for us. The bathroom is a good size, big enough for two people to use comfortably. The bed was incredibly comfortable and big. When it was time for us to head to the airport, Harry and Tomoko woke up early and saw us off. The Location: The apartment is very close to the train station (Centraal). There are several nice restaurants across the street and right next door to the building! If they don't suit you, walk 5 minutes in any direction and you'll find something to your liking. We could not have asked for a better location, it was fantastic! We were able to walk to all of the sights we wanted to see, and we never felt that we strayed too far from the apartment. More conservative visitors may not want to stay in this area because it is at the northern tip of the red light district. Although we felt safe going out at night, I wouldn't suggest staying here with children if you plan on going out after dark. Overall I would absolutely recommend Harry and Tomoko's apartment! Do yourselves a favor and rent it for your stay in Amsterdam!

Owner response: Thank you so much for you very kind words. Thank you too for taking care of our apartment in such a good way. It would be our pleasure to having you again as our guests! Thank you again. Very best wishes, Tomoko and Harry

We found the apartment in a a spacious delightfully clean, tastefully decorated state. It was very well equipped with all we needed for a most comfortable stay in Amsterdam. The apartment easily accommodated our family group of three. Conveniently located near services. It was within walking distance to everything, and, we felt 100% safe.We were greeted at the Amsterdam Centraal station by our utterly gracious host-owners and we were assisted to settle into the apartment and the area by the map with the information which was left for our perusal, together with a lovely, welcoming bowl of fresh fruit, chocolates, waffles, red and white wine. Thanks for making us welcomed! There was a bit of street noise , but for a short stay, this was not an impediment to our enjoyment of the area, rather an enhancement of the all-round ambience. Overall, a really delightful and charming apartment, an oasis in the busy part of the city, that we would recommend highly.

Recommended for: Girls getaway, tourists without a car, sightseeing.

Owner response: Thank you Galina for your great review, and thank you for taking care of our property in such a good way. Your kind words according us giving you the best service we could means a lot. Picking you up from the station was no effort at all and on the day you arrived we had the time to be able to give you this little extra service. The bit of street noise that you could hear was probably due to the fact that you had a few warm days and that you could, and I guess did, open every possible window in the apartment. If you keep the double glazed windows closed there is not much to hear, and in fact if you look across the water it feels a bit like watching a silent movie. You see the trams across the water and the street but you hardly hear them at all. At this very moment the warms days made place for rainy days and we hope that will be over soon! Very best wishes and many greetings from Amsterdam and we hope to see you again! Tomoko & Harry

We really enjoyed staying in this apartment. Harry and Tomoko were very responsive to any questions we had, and they are great vacation landlords. The apartment is very comfortable and well-kept. It was convenient to have a full kitchen as well as a washer and dryer, and the bathroom is a comfortable size. We especially loved the huge windows that look out onto the canal and the busy street behind it. The apartment itself is very quiet, which is amazing because it's located in one of the city's busier neighborhoods. The street itself can attract a fair number of young tourists, but we found the central location very convenient. Having Harry and Tomoko next door was great. They were there if we needed anything, but we had total privacy; they really do go out of their way to make you feel welcome. We were greeted with local treats and a detailed map that showed us where to find grocery stores, restaurants and other shops.

This place was amazing and the hosts were unbelievably helpful and friendly. Everything we needed was there when we arrived. There were special extra touches like a bottle of wine, candies, and fruit. It really made us feel very welcome. (The hosts, who are opera singers, even got us opera tickets at a drastically reduced rate.) Everything was clean and comfortable. There were plenty of towels and linens. There is a fabulous view from a full wall of windows in the living room area. It was in a busy location, but it was still totally quiet inside. It was easy to get around the city. I would stay here again in a minute. My only disappointment was that the pictures show a piano -- and there is a piano there -- but it is too out of tune really to play. It didn't matter though. We were so busy enjoying the city that it turns out we wouldn't have played it anyway. I recommend this place highly. The owners are on site and could not have been more wonderful both during our stay and in preparation for our stay in Amsterdam.

Recommended for: Age 55+, tourists without a car, sightseeing.

Owner response: Hello Katherine and Garth, Glad you enjoyed your stay with us. Yes, the silly old piano is more a furniture piece and since we moved next door and own a Blüthner grand piano we actually did not bother much to restore/maintain it. Sorry for the disappointment. Maybe one day we should have a look at it again. :-) Many greetings and we hope to see you again one day.

Wife and I were on our way back to Amsterdam for a few days after traveling all over Europe and needed a place to stay in Amsterdam. Being familiar with vrbo.com in the past, I went there and found this beautiful apartment for a rent at an affordable rate. I emailed the owners 1 day before our arrival and they responded quickly with good news... the place was available for rent! We took it and the transaction could not have been smoother. The owners were more than accomadating! They were extremely personable and friendly and even left us with a postcard welcoming us to Amsterdam along with chocolates, some beers, some wine, stroopwaffles(sp?) and some organic bananas. Ok, enough about how cool the owners were. :) On to the apartment: The place was very nice to say the least and the apartment is actually in the block of buildings which I bet anyone familiar with Amsterdam will recognize. The place is situated very close(in walking distance) to the train station. The expansive views from the apartment were amazing as well. It was like being in a penthouse in NYC but in a much much cooler city. We encountered no issues, appliances were top of the line etc... Owners live in VERY close proximity so if we needed anything, contacting them would not be a problem at all. If you need a place to stay in the coolest part of Amsterdam in a very cool apartment owned by some very cool people, I highly suggest this place!!!! Wife and I will definitely stay here upon our next return.

We couldn't have asked for a better experience at our VRBO in Amsterdam. The apartment was exactly as we expected from the listing and more! Upon arrival, we had wine and fresh flowers waiting for us, and the owners were very accommodating as far as our check in time. The location is amazing. It backs up onto one of the busiest streets in Amsterdam, but it is separated by a canal and is amazingly quiet for sleeping. We enjoyed watching all the comings and goings of Queen's day from our living room window. Great eating establishments were within a stone's throw of the front door. The elevator was also a plus if you have big suit cases. The train station is within sight, and it was only a 20 minute ride to Schiphol Airport.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this property. The owners, Harry and Tomoko, make everything very easy and provide all the touches that you normally wouldn't receive at a hotel. More importantly, it was the perfect space for two or three people, with a beautifully-furnished living area with a convertible bed and a separate bedroom with two very comfortable beds. The bath and kitchen were the best equipped I've seen anywhere in Europe. Though the location is close to the Red Light district, that should not deter any potential guests-- everything in Amsterdam was in walking distance, including Centraal Station, and the canal-front location was extremely quiet at night. We would not hesitate to recommend this property to family and friends, and we will most definitely stay here in future visits to Amsterdam.

The apartment was perfect. It meant staying in a wireless, completely updated 16th century apartment on the oldest street in Amsterdam - easily the ultimate of traveling experiences. Tomoko and Harry are superb hosts sharing their best with their guests. They included Puccini chocolates, really nice bath products and linens, an espresso machine and help with opera tickets. They also provided recommendations and easy accessibility with any questions before, during and after the trip. The world outside didn't matter, but it's Amsterdam, so rent a bike, hop on the tram or walk to see it all. They really want their guests to be comfortable and you will be.

We stayed here for four nights and absolutely loved the place!! It was perfect for a couple, but you could fit one more person too (we stayed here for our honeymoon). The place has been remodeled completely with all new appliances, wifi, etc. and it is beautiful on the inside. We were pleasantly surprised as it is more impressive in person than in the pictures. The owners were SUPER friendly and helpful, they definitely spend the time to add the extra little touches (treats and a map with local grocery stores/bakeries/etc. when we arrived). The location is very near to the train station which made getting there very easy. The living room has one wall that is all windows overlooking a canal and main street and we very much enjoyed relaxing on the sofa watching the scene below. Overall this place was cozy, beautiful and a perfect spot to stay at while in Amsterdam. I would recommend this place to all of my friends and if we ever return to Amsterdam, we will most definitely stay here again!

The apartment was everything described and more. Elegant and chic, an oasis in a busy city. Lovely linens and dishes. Our hosts were thoughtful and welcoming, directing us to the best bakeries and grocery stores. We loved the restaurant on the corner at Prins Hendrikkade with the high ceilings and the open air market at Nieuwmarkt. Great location, close to Central Station. Were able to walk all over the city from the apartment. Would absolutely recommend to family and friends.

We could not have been more pleased with this apartment! The location and view were exceptional and the owners (Harry & Tomoko) went the extra mile to insure that we had everything needed for our stay. The place was spotless and well equiped. Its within walking distance of the train station and many central attractions and also provides easy access to the local transportation system. We would recommend this unit to anyone wanting to experience the city of Amsterdam

Comfortable, light, we'll-equiped apartment with great views over the canal to Central Station. Very clean and the Japanese bidet/toilet is a superb addition! Wonderfully situated for transport around Amsterdam Schiphol Airport can be reached, via the railway, in under 30 mins door-to-door. Surrounding area is full of character with great bars and restaurants. The owners are charming, friendly people who will be pleased to offer advice on any aspects of Amsterdam life, together with magnificent cooking! Highly recommended. R P

Owner response: Hi Rob, How are you doing? Thanks for the review! We had a good time as well having you as our guest! I think it was a very good idea to start with VRBO and to give it a serious go. Actually we had already quite some inquiries from interesting people where we look forward to meet. As you know we travel often and the meetings themselves with great people makes life so interesting! Hello to the family, good luck with your singing and hope to be hearing from you again soon! Very best wishes, Tomoko and Harry

The apartment is indeed superbly located, peaceful and very well-maintained - in fact just as the photos show. The owners are wonderfully hospitable and friendly people - they'll help when needed, or keep out of the way, just as you want. Heartily recommended!
