I grew up in Maine and my husband and I and children, before they grew up, have visited Maine on many occasions and have stayed in as many cabins. We were very pleased with everything and Cindy was very accommodating. The view from the living room and new deck, was gorgeous! It is very, very quiet on the pond, hardly seeing or hearing any other people, only the call of the loons. A friend brought us her kayaks and we had a fun time exploring the quiet Patten Pond. The only thing I would say about people with young children, the hill is very steep so they would have to be watched closely. The cabin had everything we needed plus more! I like having a washer and dryer so you don't have to pack quite as much or return home with a suitcase fill with dirty clothes. Although we didn't find any time to watch movies, there is a huge drawer filled with them. Bar Harbor/Acadia National Park is only a short drive away. Along with Blue Hill, Deer Isle and Stonington, Bucksport and Belfast in the other direction. I hope we get to return again sometime.Recommended for: Sightseeing, girls getaway, families with young children, pet owners, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with teenagers.

My wife and I just returned from the most relaxing and enjoyable stay of any place we've stayed in Maine over the past decade. Cindy, our host, has the perfect locale and has outfitted this lakeside retreat with every convenience you'd ever need. From the lovely, family-friendly interior, to the wrap-around deck and porch overlooking the lake, to the modern dock and swimming area, we knew from the moment we arrived that we'd have a grand time. As the family cook, I was particularly impressed with the well-stocked kitchen. We were able to make everything from the usual grilled meals to all types of special selections. The kitchen was very well laid out and things were very easy to find. Cindy even has a couple of treasured family recipes and the fixin's on hand. This lake house is definitely peaceful, but close to all the great features in the surrounding area -- Ellsworth shopping, restaurants, and of course, Acadia National Park and Bar Harbor. Our personal favorite stop was the lobster pound near the bridge in Trenton, just before you cross over to Mount Desert Island. We've tried others, but no one else compares! Our whale watch cruise was quite successful, with 2 whale sitings, a long look at a basking shark, puffins, and seals. The only thing we wished we had was more time to stay! Thank you, Cindy, for opening your family's retreat to us. We look forward to staying again. Regards, Dave and DonnaRecommended for: Sightseeing, girls getaway, families with young children, adventure seekers, romantic getaway, age 55+.

Owner info
Year Purchased: 1957
About the owner: I am a retired travel agent & have traveled the world. In spite of the many beautiful places I have seen, to me my cottage is equal to them all. I love Siamese cats, spinning wool, knitting & baking.
Why the Owner Chose Ellsworth:
I inherited this cottage from my parents who built it themselves with help from neighbors & friends in the 1950's. I spent nearly every summer here as a girl, swimming & boating with my family & friends. It feels remote but is close to shopping & entertainment although I find that I hate to depart once I'm there & only leave for groceries.
The cottage is approx 25 miles from Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park, 20 miles to artsy Blue Hill, and within an hour of panoramic Deer Isle.
The Unique Benefits at this Cabin:
The cottage is on a hill overlooking the lake & is a small climb down to a gravel bottomed swimming area. There are few camps on this lake, so you will be unlikely to see very much of your neighbors. I had a new dock installed last year, so feel free to bring your own canoe or Kayak, or rent one, but there is no public boat launch on Upper Patten Pond. In other words, there's nowhere for visitors to launch motorboats, sailboats, or jetskiis. This does limit the noise on the lake so I consider it a benefit, not a fault.
