If a change of pace, beautiful panoramic views and lots of privacy are all part of your vacation dreams, our Casa de Turtle Cove is the place to be! Watch toucans, hummingbirds, and dozens of birds to add to your life list! Listen to the howler monkeys who trek throughout the jungles and forest (think front yard) surrounding us. Wake up to amazing sunrises and the beauty of the Arenal Volcano and enjoy incredible sunsets over the windfarm. Enjoy all the comforts of home including air conditioning (you do occasionally like having it), a fully equipped kitchen, laundry room and garage.
Drive a short distance to the quaint town of Nuevo Arenal (7 km) for grocery shopping and dining. Plan one night of gourmet dining at the Gingerbread Restaurant (one of Costa Rica's finest restaurants - guaranteed!). Go to Moya's for a great pizza or wonderful special. Arenal is a town of friendy ticos (the natives) and many gringos (expats from all over the world).
The Arenal ticos are hard working, supplementing their income with whatever opportunities on the side that come their way - many of those tasks may be related to tourism and helping the gringos. Family and extended family are most important to them. You'll find them at the grocery and hardware stores, banks or just hanging out at the streetside restaraunts.
Tilaran to the west on the highway to the coast is an eco-friendly town and has more to offer in shopping and dining (20 minutes). La Fortuna to the east toward the volcano is a beautiful, twisty drive through meadows and jungles - breathtaking and almost religious before you get to the dam. Worthy stops might be at La Mansion for lunch or dinner and then a stop at the Los Heroes Hotel for a tour of the grounds, chapel and maybe a jaunt on the narrow gauge rail to the top of the mountain to the museum and revolving restaraunt viewing deck.
La Fortuna is a fairly large town and is primarily a dropping off /location for tourists from all over the world. Whether self guided or through a travel booking agency, sojourns can be arranged for hot spings and spas, hikes, rafting, all national parks, the Hanging Volcano Bridges of Arenal, the park at Arenal Volcano and a boat ride or drive to Monteverde for the best zip-lines/rain forest, hummingbirds & butterflies in Costa Rica. Don't miss a horseback ride/hike or just a hike to the La Fortuna Waterfall - beautiful and refreshing - and just ask the locals and they will tell you where those beautiful hot spings are hidden in the mountain streams!
If you'd like to check out the beaches, drive west to Liberia to Playa del Coco (about 2 1/2 hours away) - A very popular area for sport fishing, Playa del Coco is the largest village in Guanacaste province. Known primarily as the gateway for surfers to reach places like Ollie's Point and Witches Rock, where the waves are superb, this busy beach is a prime scuba diving spot, with many tour and dive companies at your service. Like most of us who are more for relaxing and just laying back, great food, drinks, and regional art, crafts, clothing and all that glitters will be found in each Playa. You'll find magnificent cliffs and coves surrounding most Playas. The trade-off is that you can't go up and down the coast but rather in and out and up and down the coastline. Always sextuple the time the crow might fly.
Costa Rica is so diverse and beautiful. Agrarian and almost a third world country, it is one of the oldest democracies south of the border, has 1) no army, 2) the highest literacy rate in all of the Americas, 3) the toughest environmental regulations in the western world, 4) 25% of all land national park or conservancy, 5) among the best and affordable health care, and 5) a population that loves the PURA VIDA which is you live the pure life respecting and loving family, friends, the lands, the life in general. PURA means kind of like do unto others what you would like them to do to you... and it will give you buena VIDA .
Friends and guests who have spent time at our home have said that they experienced kind of a life changing awakening. Trying to explore all of Costa Rica, they felt the most grounded returning to 'Tortuga Esenada' and just wanting to reflect, evaluate, and appreciate what they had and where they wanted to go.
Whatever your passion, or even if you haven't really discovered it, try our home and let us know!

The house is amazing, the views are breathtaking, I loved the sound of the wind blowing in the evenings and at night. Jorge the housekeeper, is very helpful with guidance. We loved spending 4 days here. The only downside was that it is reasonably far from La Fortuna and if one is planning on doing a lot of activities during this trip, the time spent commuting can become tiring.Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.
Owner response: So happy you loved the views and enjoyed the house! Though La Fortuna is about an hour east of us, we're convenient to other sites west of us: 1) Viento Fresco waterfalls and horseback riding (about 40 minutes or less), 2) Volcan Tenorio and Rio Celeste (2 hours), 3) Monteverde (2 hours) and 4) northwestern beaches (2 1/2 hours). There's so much to do it's impossible to do it all so you'll just have to come back!

The pictures do not do this house or the views justice. We went during rainy season and were able to get out each morning and do great activities. It is about an hour drive into La Fortuna but the drive is magnificent through the rain forest. There were great restaurants closer to the house. We felt completely safe and comfortable at Turtle Cove. The alarm accidentally went off one night and security was at the house within 5 minutes. The house is beautiful and perfectly set up for families. The kitchen is to die for as is the master bathroom. Our favorite spot for our stay was in Nuevo Arenal. I would highly recommend this house if you don't mind a bit of a drive to get to the action. Oh and the views from the deck were the best views in all of the area. Thank you for use of your beautiful home. We loved it!!!Owner response: We're so glad you found our home and Nuevo Arenal such a special place to be! We are excited that a community pool is being built in Turtle Cove and should be finished by next year (2013). The security at Turtle Cove is a definite plus - we feel very safe there. You can see the entrance/guard gate from our home. And yes, the restaurants nearby are hard to beat!

We spent a week in this wonderful home and it provided us with an ideal base to experience the beauty of Lake Arenal and its surrounding area. The house is a class act as far as furnishings, bed comfort, kitchen equipment and references for both the local area as well as other parts of Costa Rica. Turtle Cove is an ideal location to walk and view beautiful birds, endless flowers and an unbelievable view of the lake. The house layout allows for idea group activity as well as plenty of cozy places to spend private time which makes this the perfect choice for families.Recommended for: People with disabilities, age 55+, families with teenagers, adventure seekers, romantic getaway, families with young children, tourists without a car, girls getaway, sightseeing.
Owner response: So glad you found our home well-equipped! We love to eat in - enjoy the sunset and views of the lake while sipping a cocktail and grilling or cooking on the gas stove. There are so many adventures within an hour of our place - Jorge, our property manager, is happy to help with suggestions and even to take you on a day tour!

We (a family of 4 from Canada) spent Christmas week in the Turtle Cove house. It was a wonderful experience in every way. The house is spacious, open and full of light from large windows that overlook Lake Arenal and the surrounding hills. The view is absolutely spectacular! The furnishings are comfortable and stylish. The house is very well equipped: from appliances and the kitchenware, to cleaning supplies, spare batteries etc. etc. - the owners have thought of everything that could make staying in their house comfortable and carefree. There's a shelf full of guidebooks and maps - very useful. While staying at Turtle Cove, we made day trips to Monteverde, La Fortuna Waterfalls, Volcan Arenal National Park, Sky Trek and Sky Walk and Volcan Tenorio. To fully explore the area a 4x4 is a must. The main road around the lake is in relatively good condition, but it is winding with many narrow bridges. It takes about an hour to get to Arenal Volcano from Turtle Cove, 2 hrs to Monteverde. We highly recommend this house!Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, adventure seekers, romantic getaway, families with young children, sightseeing.

We really enjoyed our vacation in Costa Rica. The owner was so helpful in providing information of where to shop, restaurants and special attractions. The view of Turtle Cove was awesome. My husband and I could not believe the beauty of the location of this home. We had a panaromic view of the lake, mountains and the volcano. It was breathtaking. We saw several sunsets that were so great. After a light rain shower one afternoon we took pictures of one of the most beautiful rainbows I have ever seen. The home was well equipped, comfortable and very nice. We had a quiet, relaxing and enjoyable vacation. Can't wait to plan our next trip!Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, adventure seekers, romantic getaway, pet owners, families with young children, girls getaway, sightseeing.

We truly enjoyed our February Get-Away to Costa Rica. Your house was amazing and the view of Aarenal Lake and Volcano from the deck was fantastic. Such a relaxing place to sit, take in the surrounding landscape and listen to the birds. Turtle Cove is a wonderful place and getting to meet some of the residents and guards was so much fun. Your home is well equipped, comfortably furnished and very clean. Loved the Art Work!! In the 10 day stay there we were able to explore the nearby towns as well as the many local & colorful restaurants.........quite an adventure! At the same time, your house is definitely a place if one is looking for a laid back life. I look forward to my next visit. It was a privilege to stay in your home - Thank you. We'll be back soon!!!!Recommended for: Age 55+, adventure seekers, romantic getaway, girls getaway, sightseeing.

Our trip was so very special. Even though I have wanted to visit CR for some time, it would not have been the same doing it on a tour, or without staying with a home base as yours, without the opportunity to have a more intimate feel of the country and its people, and animals! We both definitely want to return, and hopefully rent your wonderfully comfortable home at Turtle Cove next year. I am already thinking ahead on places that I want to visit. Actually, I am not sure I can wait almost a whole year to return!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

Year Purchased: 2008
About the owner: We first ventured to Costa Rica in 2005 with our then 15 year old daughter. We spent 5 days at the resort Mariott Los Suenos and the next 5 days at La Mansion, Lake Arenal. Though the beach was beautiful, we soon discovered that the climate, lush vegetation, and amazing wildlife in Lake Arenal were unlike any place we had ever visited. Known as the 'Lake Tahoe' of Costa Rica, we easily decided that this is the place to be. Temps in the 70's, sunny (a lot of the time) and the friendliest people you could ever hope to meet all added to the appeal. We decided that Lake Arenal, Costa Rica was where we'd like to spend more and more of our days. The gated community of Turtle Cove and amazing views from Lot 22 sealed the deal! We just hope that you will also find the 'magic' we have discovered and will come back again and again! A simple greeting in Arenal any time, any place any way is to say PURA VIDA and it will cross all languages and barriers, and get a smile. Simple as that. Why the Owner Chose Nuevo Arenal:
Location, Location,Location. Original intent was to purchase a lot. My wife and I on a previous trip had looked at Turtle Cove, a gated development on the lake with marina, which was just getting started. I returned the following year by myself to find the perfect lot with the perfect location. I found the not quite perfect lot, but the developer happened to be next to this lot as he was about half-way through construction of the home that was to be the showcase of the development He invited me over and fortunately the working blue prints were there to untangle the maze of steel construction. The view was to die for. Met with the buider that evening at the Gingerbread where I was staying, and discussed more details including the finishing details that would go over the steel framing; extracted some intentions which I turned into promises later on. I called my wife the following day and told her that I wanted to make an offer with her blessing. We both were operating on blind faith (she in particular not having seen a thing). A contract was agreed upon and 4 months later with changes and add on's we moved into an empty house. No regrets. Promises kept, excellent craftsmanship and materials - it is the showplace of the development. You'll be hard pressed to find more glorious views than from Casa Tortuga Ensenada and even with more development here this will remain one of my favorite locations and homes.
The Unique Benefits at this House:
You only have to spend a few days here to absorb and feel the unique benefits. Guests have remarked 'kind of life changing, a new perspective.'.
Our location is convenient to both La Fortuna and Tilaran - points east and west of Arenal Volcano. You can take a scenic drive east to Fortuna is less than an hour,go west for 30 minutes or less to Tilaran, go west 2 1/2 hours to the beaches, or southwest to the ziplines and charm of Monteverde less than 2 hours away.
