My only complaint is that I should have stayed longer!! The home was clean and cozy and we really enjoyed the local beaches. The beds were very comfortable and the kitchen was well equipped. We have a 2 year old and he loved running around in the back yard. I would definitely return to this house. So much fun! The town was welcoming and friendly. Bolinas, just north of Stinson Beach, was also a cool little town with a lot of very colorful art. I would definitely recommend this home. :) Thanks for a wonderful little getaway. Side note for travelers: I do recommend you do your grocery shopping before getting to Stinson Beach, the local market has everything you may need but you definitely pay for the convenience! Also, Stinson Beach does not allow dogs on the beach but you can travel just a couple of miles north to Bolinas.Recommended for: Pet owners, romantic getaway, families with young children, sightseeing.
Owner response: First of all many thanks for the kind words. First rate guest. House was left in immaculate condition! I would rent to Tonia again! I should mention that only the state beach doesn't allow dogs. You can still park in the state beach parking lot and walk your dog out to the right all the way down the beach as far as the tip of Seadrift and the Bolinas/Stinson channel.

My husband and I spent 3 weeks at Shell Cottage over the past winter holidays. The house is charmingly decorated in shabby-chic and Ikea. The fireplace works well, and came supplied with wood and kindling....though we supplemented the supply since nights were chilly and we enjoyed a fire most evenings. The electric baseboard-type heaters in all rooms work well, especially when the fan in the living room is on, drawing heat from the high, redwood, beamed ceiling. When the winter sun is out the house warms up quickly -- no heaters needed, even on chilly days. Michael, who manages the property, was most responsive when we had a slight problem with the water heater. He came right out to fix it. The fact that he was a phone call away made us feel secure that any problem would be addressed. The beds were comfortable and the bedding and linens of good quality. With the washer/dryer and laundry detergent all provided (along with any other kitchen or cleaning product you might want), we were easily able to do the necessary housekeeping for a 3-week stay. Although we did not use it, there is a cute loft area in the house, where children would have a cozy nook to themselves. The cottage is clean and well-maintained, with a cute kitchen containing all the essentials and more. Naturally, we cooked quite a few meals in. The nearby market has a lot of essential supplies, but we also shopped in Mill Valley (Whole Foods and Safeway are there), and in Fairfax/San Anselmo, where the Good Earth natural food market has all organic products. Dining out, we ate at the Parkside Cafe in Stinson a couple of times, and found the menu interesting and the food all very good. On Saturday nights they have music -- the night we arrived there was a GREAT jazz group performing. We also ate at the Sand Dollar Cafe, where the ribs were really good and they seem to have musicians most nights. Up the coast on Highway 1 is Point Reyes Station, with the highly-recommended Station Cafe only 30 minutes door-to-door from the cottage. It's a top destination for brunch, lunch or dinner, and the town and larger area of Pt. Reyes offer lots of sightseeing. To the south, other culinary destinations are the Pelikan Inn at Muir Beach, and the Buckeye Roadhouse in Mill Valley, both excellent dining choices. At night I loved the view of lights off the coast of San Francisco, and in the day, the view of breakers down on the beach. We thoroughly enjoyed the cottage, and may return.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, pet owners, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, sightseeing.

My family fell in love with this charming cottage! It is perfect for a family, with two nice sized rooms and a wonderful little sleeping loft for my oldest two. The beds are very comfortable and the kitchen is adequately outfitted for most cooking needs. My husband was initially concerned that we would not be on the beach, but we ended up really appreciating the peace and quiet of being in the hills after a long day at the beach. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and hope to return soon!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, pet owners, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, families with young children.
Owner response: Great guests! Left the cottage immaculate. I would definitely rent to this family again!

Shell Cottage was such a relaxing place to stay for our family getaway from the city. Michael was great to work with and answered all of my questions promptly. The location is just up the hill from the beach and local restaurants like our favorite the "Sand Dollar". The cottage is what a beach house should be like... clean, light, airy, great peekaboo views of the ocean, cozy and a bbq in the backyard for grilling. It has 2 bedrooms and a loft so it will easily accomodate 6 people (but the kids will have fun in the loft) there is a small kitchen and 1 bathroom but was perfect for the 3 of us. We so enjoyed our stay and would definitely come back! Thanks, again Michael!Recommended for: Age 55+, people with disabilities, tourists without a car, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, sightseeing.
Owner response: I had the opportunity to meet the renters and I would rate them 5 of 5 stars! Paid on-time and left the cottage in perfect condition. I would not hesitate to recommend them to other VRBO Owners!

My husband, I and my Mom spent a week in this adorable cottage in Stinson Beach. The house was adorable and truly has the charm of a seaside cottage. It was very clean and suited the three of us perfectly. The views are breathtaking and the sound of the surf at night was mesmerizing. We were fortunate enough to be able to have a fire in the fireplace in the living room. The atmosphere was snuggly and warm. I would highly recommend this property to anyone. The owner was very nice and extremely helpful. We ate at the Sand Dollar Restaurant that was delicious and an easy walk. We would certainly rent this house again if we are ever back in Stinson Beach.Recommended for: Age 55+, pet owners, romantic getaway, sightseeing.
Owner response: Thanks for the kind words. The Roberts also get five out of five stars! The house was left in immaculate condition and proved to be the perfect guests!

We had a great time at Shell Cottage. Everything was comfortable and clean. There were lovely linnens on the comfortable beds. The kitchen was well stocked with good pots and pans. My son loved sleeping in the loft and the grownups loved having a place to get away from the crowds after a long day at the beach.Recommended for: Romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.
Owner response: Guests paid all monies on time left the cottage immaculate. Perfect vacation renters! I would definitely rent to the Buechers again!

The cottage has glimpses of the ocean from most rooms, and at night everyone can fall asleep to the sound the surf softly crashing down at the bottom of the hill. The furnishing feels like what you would like to find in a beach cottage except nicer. The beds were very comfortable. The kitchen is small but works well. The knives are even sharp. I did miss having a bowl scraper in the kitchen, but nothing else.Recommended for: Age 55+, romantic getaway, girls getaway, sightseeing.
Owner response: Thank you for your kind and accurate remarks regarding our family cottage! I promise to have a bowl scraper in-place for your next visit. Guests left the cottage in perfect condition! The Marnums are five-star renters!

About the owner: I am a native Californian and a 4th generation San Franciscan. I've owned the house for 35 years and have lived in it off and on over the years. We've always cherished the house in our family. The neighborhood on the hill has really not changed much over the years. My favorite activities at Stinson included daily walks around the neighborhood, volunteering at the library, an aerobics class for seniors and, of course, endless walks on the beach. I live in Marin County now. Spend time with my son and my sweetheart. My daughter lives in Santa Fe with my two grand-pugs. I stay busy with water aerobics, volunteering at a thrift shop and sewing with my girlfriends.
Why the Owner Chose Stinson Beach:
Stinson Beach has been a favorite destination since I was a girl. My children and other relatives have lived in, or visited the town for over 50 years!
The Unique Benefits at this Cottage:
There is a calmness and quiet on the hill above the summer crowds. Also the hillside seems to naturally amplify the sound of the surf!
