A great location and a great vacation house ...this beach cottage sleeps 13 in beds, has views of the ocean , a big pool and a hot tub....,a game room and is right across the street from one of the nicest, cleanest beaches in the world. We are walking distance from the market and restaurant and public beach.
Just added a new leather sofa and coffee table to the great room for 2011.

Sandbridge is a quiet little beach neighborhood several miles south of the Virginia Beach strip just to the north of the North Carolina line. Sandbridge is sometimes referred to as "the Outer Banks of Virginia". We have 5 bedrooms, and sleep 11 people comfortably in beds. 13 if you add in the bunkbeds in the game room.
This house is semi-oceanfront, with views and sounds of the ocean. We are one row back from the first line of Oceanfront homes. The beach is really close and we actually are on the dunes and have a dune in our front yard. The large pool is on the other side of the house and gets great afternoon sun.
We are only one block from the public beach where lifeguards are on duty in the summer months. If you have small children this is a big plus. The street in front is generally for local traffic and has very little traffic, even in the peak of summer. Beach access is right across this sleepy little road.
You can walk down this little street about a block or so to the local market for morning coffee,fresh doughnuts and the newspaper. You can watch the sunrise from the front deck while the others sleep and look forward to another sunny day at the beach. In the evenings, some of our guests like to enjoy cocktails on the front deck looking out over the ocean.
Next to the fully stocked market and deli is a wonderful restaurant with ocean views and excellent food. In the evenings it is fun to walk from the restaurant over to the yogurt shop for dessert before walking home. If you don't like getting in your car to go everywhere you don't have to.
There are other restaurants a few minutes drive away. The Baja rocks with live music most nights in the summertime.
Back Bay Wildlife Refuge is just a few minutes south and you sometimes see wild horses and pigs and other wildlife year-round.
If you want to cook there is a fully stocked kitchen, a gas grill and large areas for dining either inside or on the front or back decks.
Hell's Point Golf Course is about 5 minutes up the road and is consistently ranked in the top 100 of all public courses in the country. Tennis courts and playgrounds and a fishing pier are another 5 minutes in the other direction.
The close proximity to the beach, neighborhood center and public facilities mean you don't need to get in your car for days at a time..
... If you want more action you are only a few minutes drive to great shopping,restaurants,the nightlife of the resort strip of Virginia Beach or another hour or so to Colonial Williamsburg,Busch Gardens and Water Country.
Sandbridge is surrounded by the Back Bay National Wildlife Refuge and as a result there is no through traffic. All traffic headed for Sandbridge is going only to Sandbridge. This remoteness is part of the charm of this fabulous little beach. It is out of the way but still very accessible to everything.

We love this place and have stayed there twice, June 2008 and June 2011. The location is great and the house is beautifully furnished and has plenty of room. The kitchen is well-stocked and has everything you might need. We love the hot tub and pool area. The house is very convenient to the beach and the market. The front porch is wonderful for ocean watching, cooking out, relaxing, etc. We did not take our lab puppy this year, but will definitely take him on our next visit.
Recommended for:Pet owners, girls getaway, age 55+, families with young children, families with teenagers.

We have stayed at this house two times (before the pool was built) and adored it. It was just our kind of place. Unfortunately, for just the two of us, it became too pricey once the pool was built. But it is still our favorite place to vacation. We miss it! October is FABULOUS in Sandbridge. The general store is FABULOUS also. Everything you could possibly need. LOVED the deck. loved the dog-friendly aspect. Worth taking care of as if it were our own house. A+++

Where to start? We stayed at this property pretty much throughout the month of March. Not only was the ant problem still present, many others were as well. The game/Bunkbed room is an unattached garage with no heat connected to it, so if you plan to stay in the chillier months make sure you use the heater that we had to buy. Needless to say, when we walked into this "game room" it was more of a storage area. It had a huge freezer and many other unwanted items scattered around, along with old beer bottles from previous renters??? Thats rediculous if you ask me. Another problem that we were having had to do with the power. The power breakers continuously switched off, even when we disconnected the electric heater. It was like we couldnt figure out what was causing this problem, no matter what we did. Ohh and if u think u can solve the problem by getting ahold of the supposed house keeper(numbers on the Refrigerator) think again..Then when you try to get ahold of the owner about the issue, it will take about 7 calls, 4 messages and alot of wasted time hoping for the call to return. Never thought I would have to take a deposit from the owner of a house that iam renting. haha And the list goes on... So if you would like to find out more information just give Mr. Yates' law office a call and the wonderful secretaries will take as mannnyyyy messages as you need them to! Good Luck with any response after the one about your payment. OOhhhhh and the deposit, with 30 days you would think thats plenty of time, guess again!
Owner response:This renter's complaints are so malicious, I don't know where to start. For starters, the game room is unheated, and only has air conditioning. This renter knew this when he rented the house! 95% of our rentals are in the warmer months of late spring, summer of course fully occupied, and early fall, and the game room works fine in the warmer months. He rented Three weeks in the dead of winter and bought all these space heaters so he could use the game room as a display area for some kind of business meeting. We had no idea he was expecting to use the game room for this purpose. Small wonder the circuit breakers were blowing!! Did he he expect me to put in a new electrical panel to acomodate his unexpected need for power and heat to an unheated space? Who is being ridiculous? He got angry when I refused to buy all of his space heaters that he bought without my consent. I would request that anyone who reads this please consider reviews of folks who have stayed at this house before and after to make a judgment about this rental home. If you want to rent in the months between Thanksgiving and Easter, please be aware the weather can be cold and wet. It can also be warm and sunny, you never know. We have a hot tub and the winter can sometimes be a great time at the beach, uncrowded and beautiful. But don't forget that this is Virginia, not Hawaii !

We left half way through our visit. The house was unclean and in very run down condition. The furniture smelled and was very uncomfortable. Its as if the owner went to Goodwill and picked up the cheapest furniture he could find. The hot tub didn't work...it said it was 104, but it was barely 98 from the thermometer. Mildew smell from the carpet is very strong. All the glasses had chips in the edges. Its a beach rental that the owner is trying to sell. So if you are looking for something comfortable and clean, this isn't the place for you. The location was spot on to the description, but I was very disappointed in the condition of the house.
Owner response: This is the same house that was rated 5 Stars by other tenants in the same year! And we continue to get great reviews. Be sure to read ALL of the reviews..... These folks never complained to us about the house at all, and then decided to write a bad and inaccurate review........ All I can figure is that the week they stayed in the house in December the weather was cold and wet and the house got blamed. Hot tubs heat up at 6 degrees per hour. 98 to 100 or more takes only minutes. If you have a problem with the hot tub, my hot tub guy lives in Sandbridge and can be there in minutes. If these people had problems we never knew about it because it could have been fixed in minutes. I checked the plates and glasses, no chipped items. I can't explain this review, the weather must have not cooperated. ....... However, just to be on the SAFE side, please be advised that..... I purchased NEW furniture and comforters for the upcoming spring and summer rental season for 2011. (oh, and our hot tub guy says the spa works just fine!)...

Great house, very roomy, and very clean. House was nicer than the pictures showed and the views from the front were spectacular. The inground pool was beautiful and we spent most of our time in the pool. Would definitely recommend this house if you are a pool lover or an ocean lover or both.

This house was great, sit out on the front deck every morning and watch the dolphin play! The pool was fabulous, we spent most of our time in the pool. Very nice house, quiet area! Would definitely recommend this house to others!

The house was great. The pictures really don't do it justice. The pool and hot tub was such a wonderful addition to the experience. For my family the open-air kitchen and livingroom was the most enjoyable. We could cook and socialize and play games together all in the same vicinity. The location was perfect. We enjoyed long walks along the road and also along the beach in the mornings. The view was exactly as promised. We could open the curtains and watch the sunrise right from our living areas and the front deck. Our vacation experience was more than expected and we would certainly recommend this home and consider renting it again in the future.

Infested with ants. Very old furnishings. Pool area is great. Took owner two months to return security deposit.
Owner response: We hired an exterminator and had no further ant problems. We have bought new furniture for Summer season of 2011. We returned the May deposit with the deposits received for the June rentals(so an extra 30 days went by)and we apologize for the delay. This was an oversight on my secretary's part and we have changed our policies to avoid further delays.
