Beautifully Restored 200 Year-Old Farmhouse on 25 Acres!
- Minimum stay:2-3 nights
- Internet:Yes
- Pets allowed:Yes
- Wheel chair accessible:Yes
The Wayside Center offers a beautifully restored 200 year-old farmhouse on 25 lush, river bottom acres for use by your group.
Sleeping:
The top floor contains two bedrooms, one with a full and two twin beds, the other with a queen and two twin beds. These rooms are ideal for families and have sufficient space for a couple of sleeping pads each on the floor.
The middle floor has a dormitory room with 4 bunkbeds custom-built to our specifications for maximum comfort and headroom. The library also contains a couch that folds out into a double bed and we have the capacity to set up a daybed in that room as well. The door to this room can be closed for quiet and privacy, but it does contain the bathroom for that floor which others may need access to.
The ground floor has a dormitory room containing one full and five twin beds.
Assuming double beds are used by two people and the library accommodations are used as well, this gives the house a capacity of 26 plus floor space.
In addition, there is a 5 acre meadow with plenty of well-drained ground providing a thick thatch as a bed for dozens of tents.
Linens provided. Laundry machine and dryer on site.
Dining:
The kitchen is spacious and well-equipped to cook for a large group, including two wall-mounted convection ovens and a five-burner gas stove mounted in an island. We have a 50-cup coffee maker and well as all of the large stock-pots, serving bowls, plates, silverware, etc. that you would need to cook for and serve a group of 50.
The dining room can easily accommodate 25. An additional table set up in the kitchen and two outside on the covered porch would easily seat a total of 50.
Rooms:
The main living room in the house seats 22. The library is also lovely and cozy, with built in bookshelves. In nice weather, the 400+ s.f. deck provides an additional large meeting space and covered porches in the front and back provides numerous nooks for conversations and small group meetings. The broad, flat meadow provides ample space for a large tent. We can coordinate tent rental or put you in touch with local rental agencies.
Bathing:
The top floor of the house has a full bath with tub and hand-held shower. The middle floor contains a full bath with shower. The ground level floor has a half bath.
Communications:
The house is equipped with wireless internet and a land-line with complementary domestic long-distance.
Recreation:
Our 25 acres of land includes substantial creek frontage and wooded hillsides for roaming. We have the beginnings of a network of walking trails and the woods themselves offer easy access with many acres free of underbrush and other obstructions. We have access to a lovely swimming hole, mostly waist-deep with a deeper area as well that sits beneath a small waterfall with a natural whirlpool. The meadow provides ample space for field games. There is a stone fire circle and easy access to wood for bonfires. We are located in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains and there are many day-hikes and other recreational opportunities within a short drive.
Accessibility:
Our facility is ADA compliant with a concrete parking pad, sidewalk, wheelchair ramp and wheelchair accessible bathroom with appropriate fixtures and a shower chair.
