Whether you look at the magnificent villa: Casa Romero, one or both of the family-friendly French Angel townhouses, or one or both of the more secluded townhouses that are Blue Tang, you will find that each room has its own character and special feel.
Located directly on Yal Ku lagoon, you have direct (free) access to the marvelous snorkeling with schools of tropical fish. The complex features an outdoor pool at Casa Romero, and individual heated rooftop pools on each of the townhouses.
Tucked in the relaxed atmosphere which is uniquely Akumal, you will have plenty to do, but you may decide to just relax.
YAL KU LAGOON: A true jewel of Mexico, Yal Ku Lagoon offers magnificent snorkeling for both the novice and experienced swimmer. Protected from the ocean waves, you can float along and see schools of sergeant fish, blue tangs, and others. Many varieties of parrot fish chomp on the algae on the rocks while angel fish and others swim about. You can also swim towards the inlet to the see: a shallow sandy area where you can sometimes see a turtle or a ray. Other great snorkeling and diving are available nearby including in caves and cenotes as well as the nearby coral reefs.
TRAVEL INSURANCE: For your protection, we recommend that you purchase travel insurance as protection for your vacation. Travel insurance can protect you from many losses you might otherwise incur because of unforeseen circumstances such as illness, injuries, and mandatory evacuations. Note that we can not generally provide refunds for cancellations or interrupted stays. We do recommend travel insurance so that you can be protected.
REFUNDS: We do not generally provide refunds. However, if the airport is closed by the authorities or if there is a mandatory evacuation, we carry forward your unused payments (pro-rated) toward a later reservation up to 18 months.

For single couple or a larger group of adults, Blue Tang offers privacy, security, and luxury. Enjoy either of the two story, two bedroom townhouses with central air throughout or rent both adjoining houses for a larger group. Located directly on Yal-Ku lagoon, the two townhouses (Blue Tang A and Blue Tang B) offer privacy but convenient access to the lagoon, the ocean, nearby restaurants, and the many activities in and around Akumal. Each townhouse has two bedroom sites with king beds on the second floor overlooking the lagoon. Downstairs, find an open floor plan with the living area and dining room which overlook the lagoon, kitchen, bath, and laundry area. The flat screen TV is attached to a satellite with US content and a DVD/CD player. Open WiFi Internet connection is available at no cost, and there is a free VOIP telephone for incoming calls and outgoing calls to the US. Blue Tang can be combined with other houses on the Romero complex for larger parties.

My husband, daughter, her friend and I spent a glorious week at Blue Tang and had an absolutely perfect and relaxing vacation. The property was very clean, well maintained, and unlike other vacation homes we have rented in the area, has all the amenities listed in excellent working order. The photos do not really do the property justice as it is even more spacious and welcoming than the photos depict. Having the Yal Ku Lagoon literally footsteps from your door make this a real hidden gem. The snorkeling is simply fantastic and we were fortunate enough to swim with turtles and even spot a massive spotted eagle ray! The rooftop pool offers a great respite with a nice view and calming tropical breeze. The staff genuinely care that everything is as perfect as can be for the guests and do a really great job to ensure your comfort. We made use of the bicycles, grill and all the well stocked kitchen items to prepare our breakfast, lunches and a few dinners. The restaurants in the area are well priced, convenient and serve a variety of options and we found the service very good. If you are looking for a totally relaxing vacation away from the usual crowded resorts this is definitely the spot for you. We had total privacy in a beautiful location with all the comforts of home. Needless to say we are already planning a return trip in late fall and after being home less than a week, I have 5 couples lined up for a group trip in 2010! The only thing that could have improved our stay is if we booked for 2 weeks rather than 1. About the owner: We had been visiting Yal Ku Lagoon for almost 15 years and always loved staying in Akumal, especially directly on the lagoon. We traveled extensively and found ourselves saying, 'this is nice, but it isn't Akumal', or 'it isn't Yal Ku'. So when we found a villa for sale directly on the lagoon, we could not pass it up. After restoring Casa Delfin, we were relaxing in the rooftop pool at night wondering what we were going to do next. We both looked over at Casa Romero which was in terrible shape. Two weeks later we had an agreement to purchase it and renovations began only a few months later.
Why the Owner Chose Akumal:
This is the only privately owned complex of homes on the Riviera Maya - plus it is on the lagoon. We could not pass up the opportunity to restore Casa Romero to its proper grandeur and to convert all the houses to luxurious accommodations.
The Unique Benefits at this House:
If you have ever been to Akumal, you know it maintains the laid-back atmosphere that has gone from so many places. We have the feeling of belonging to a community. In addition to the magnificent snorkeling in Yal Ku, one of the things that we like the best is that Akumal is enjoyed by Mexicans as well as tourists. We have gotten to know the many local restaurants and enjoy eating out as being able to cook our own food and entertain friends and family.
