Family getaway

Guest: JG (Odessa, Texas)
Date of Stay: 01/08/12 Review Submitted: 01/19/12

We just returned from a week at this location, and we will definitely go back. It is absolute heaven to stay right down on the beach; we started with our coffee by the water in the morning and ended the day watching the gorgeous sunset. The couple who do the cooking, cleaning, etc. are delightful. Rosa is a great cook; we only went out to dinner one night during our stay. We rented paddleboards and kayaks and spent our days in the water or lounging by the water. The gated neighborhood is secure and quiet, very low key and relaxing. This was a good value for the money spent and we look forward to returning next year. There is nothing like the sound of the ocean to lull you to sleep.

Great location for surfers

Just returned from an extended weekend. Awesome location - quiet, safe, secluded neighborhood. The only thing between your door and the ocean is the beautiful pool. Short walk up the beach to a couple of great longboard waves. Consistent and mellow - great place for beginner and intermediate surfers with gentle, safe takeoffs, and long rideable walls. Rosa and Gilberto were delightful and Rosa is a great cook (request the chicken mole!) Stable and fast internet, HD TV set, stereo to plug you iPod into, AC, plenty of places to get away from your group for some quiet time, shaded hammocks right on the beach. It's hard to imagine anything the house is missing.

We love this villa...our second time and will not be our last. Pool on the beach, a cook and a car, what else makes the perfect vacation? Accommodations were lovely, and Gilberto and Rosa make it a trip to remember. I would recommend this to everyone! Fabulous time!

The most amazing vacation we've ever taken!

Case de Las Abuelas the most amazing vacation - so much more than we expected. Much nicer than the crowded town of Puerto Vallarta, much more beautiful and relaxing, and only 30 minutes north of the main town. The 4 bedroom 5 bath home comes with a suburban and a wonderful couple, Rosa & Gilberto, who will attend to every need. They arrive each morning and leave after dinner cleanup. You will hardly know they are there unless you need them! All meals are cooked by Rosa, but Gilberto will help cut up vegetables, etc. Gilberto attends to the fresh margaritas (or whatever you'd like) at the outside bar area, the barbecue, serves and cleans up. We'd sit under the outside palapa chatting, enjoying drinks, fresh guacamole and salsa prepared by Rosa. After breakfast Rosa cleans all rooms, and Gilberto cleans the grounds, pool, etc. They disappear for a few hours to pick up our grocery requests for dinner, and are back about 4 or 5 to start preparing drinks, appetizers and dinner, whatever we have requested. There's a menu of choices to browse through, things like fish tacos, enchiladas, grilled chicken - but they're just suggestions. For example, one night we asked for half shrimp and half chicken enchiladas, another night barbecued fish and vegetables. They are quick to learn anything you request, even if it's not their standard mthod of cooking (such as grilled fish tacos instead of fried)! Oftentimes, there's the lovely scent of beans slow boiling on the stove with fresh herbs during the day as they are cleaning or shopping. One night we made some brownies, which Rosa and Gilberto had never experienced. We gave them a half dozen squares to take home to their kids, and as the ladies left for our after dinner powerwalk around the community we noticed Rosa REALLY enjoying the brownies in the car right before they left. We were hoping she actually got some home for her kids :-) The flight from OC, Calif is just 2.5 hours and direct, perfect. Gilberto met our group of 7 at the airport. We found him right away in his baseball cap (as owner Kathy Young had described). He drove us to a large grocery store about 15 minutes later and Gilberto asked us what fruit we'd like for breakfast, if we wanted beer or wine - well, we went a bit crazy and bought a load of great vegetables and fruits, fresh limes for margaritas, and whatever else looked enticing. Rosa and Gilberto had shopped earlier and had all the makings for fresh guacamole, fresh margaritas made with bags an

What a Pleasure!

Let me start by saying that typically a family vacation is NOT something that brings a smile to my face nor warms my heart...long distance travel with the extended family is usually complicated by everything, the travel being the least of our concerns. This was not the case with this amazing home! We traveled from all over the globe (Boston, London, and LA) during peak winter storms to make our holiday this year something special. We knew were were going to have a ball, but we were BLOWN AWAY!! The house is incredible and the staff is out of this world! We experienced a mix of lazy days in the hammocks, down the road surf excursions, adventurous jaunts to the zipline and sightseeing road trips to neighboring villages. We ate well, slept well and had the time of our lives! Kathy, you have set up the perfect home for family vacations with kids and family members of all ages. And the use of the car was just the cherry on the top! Thank You!!!

Kathy. we had a great time, thanks for sharing your wonderful place. the grounds and casa were well maintained, clean and comfortable. Rosa and Gilberto are amazing hosts and we had a good time talking to them and getting to know a bit about them. Gilberto was always gardening, fixing something and working around the casa and Rosa was a master in the kitchen. her cooking was some of the best we had the entire trip. Oh and Gilberto makes an amazing margarita! they truly made our trip special. even if you don't speak Spanish get to know Rosa and Gilberto, your trip will be a richer experience for it. thanks again for a wonderful vacation - we're already trying to figure out when we can get back down there. all our best. Austin & Sarah.

Most Relaxing Vacation Ever

Guest: Mary Jane (Odessa, TX)
Date of Stay: 05/22/10 Review Submitted: 08/05/10

We had an amazing time at this villa. Rosa and Gilberto were excellent hosts, chefs, bartenders, chauffeurs. We left there with new friends. Gilberto's margaritas were the best I ever had! The accomodations were impeccable. The villa was very clean and extremely well-maintained inside and out. I have already recommended this villa to everyone I have talked to. The beach at the villa was a little too rough for some of us lightweights to even get in. We spent alot of time combing the beach for shells and tons of hermit crabs which are really fun to watch. We loved eating at Punto de Mita-do not remember the name but recommended by staff and Kathy. We also had a great day in Sayulitas shopping and eating at Don Pedro's.....excellent food. We all found some really beautiful silver jewelry here at a good price in a jewelry store close to the square plus it was one of the few air conditioned places so we spent quite a bit of time in there cooling off. The trip to Caletas was beautiful except for an extremely rough ride over. We went to downtown Puerto Vallarta, and I do not recommend this. It is too hot and too touristy. We definitely plan to return and hopefully stay in the other house that Kathy owns except we want Roas and Gilberto for our helpers! : )

A True Mexico Beach Front Home a Must for anyone who wants to go to Mexico

Guest: Bob L (Los Gatos, CA)
Date of Stay: 06/01/10 Review Submitted: 06/11/10

This was our family's second visit to Cathy's home and won't be the last. If your looking for the most comfortable beds, best working Airconditioners, best home made food, best and hardest working grounds keeper etc. then Cathy's is the place. The only suggestion I have to make your stay better is talk to and get to know Rosa and Gilberto. They are the most wonderful Mexican couple you could ever meet and are there to make your vaction a true experience. We even invited them to eat with us one night and bring their two lovely daughters. We had so much fun with our broken Spanish and thier broken English as we played card games, rosted Marshmellows on the beach fire pit, it was the laughing highlight of the trip. Tip them well because they more than deserve it! The Laubach Family

Great Place

Guest: Olas (SLC, UT)
Date of Stay: 05/08/10 Review Submitted: 06/09/10

We just returned from our fourth trip to Casa Abuelos. The house is very pleasant and the location is perhaps the best in burros The owner is great to work with and Gilberto and Rosa are wonderful. This is a great trip for families as you have everything you need right there - house, pool, beach, hammocks under the palapa. Punta Mita, Sayulita and Puerto Vallarta are all close enough to visit for a day trip and then you can return to the peace and quiet of Abuelos and ask yourself why you ever left. If you are looking for a fun and friendly house on beautiful stretch of beach where you are taken care of by a very nice local family then this is it.

What a fantastic way to spend vacation, eating Rosa's fantastic meals and drinking Gilberto's unbelieivable margaritas. Listening to the waves crashing on the shore at night while eating smores by the fire pit. Pictures don't do it justice. Can't recommend this enough! Only complaint is that a week isn't long enough. Thanks Rosa and Gilberto, you were fantastic!
