This house was a wonderful find on VRBO. The price was reasonable and the owners were flexible with our scheduling. The house was very comfortable and had many amenities that we did not expect. The lake in the back of the house was beautiful at all times of the day. There was quite a large pool and a wonderful jacuzzi to enjoy while just relaxing. The neighborhood is very quiet, but just one house from West Gulf Dr. I was told it was just a short walk to the beach as my husband has trouble walking far--and it really was just a couple of minutes and all level. I hope we have the opportunity to rent this lovely property again. I highly recommend it.Recommended for: People with disabilities, families with young children, sightseeing, age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway.

We’ve been coming to Sanibel Island annually for almost twenty years and have stayed in numerous places. Once we found 223 Palm Lake Drive, we never looked any further. We love everything about this home; it is conveniently located, quiet, well equipped and extremely comfortable. The property is always clean when we arrive. The pictures here only partially reflect the warmth and attractiveness of the property. Arriving here feels like coming home. The owners are some of the nicest people to deal with and make the entire rental process easy. We’ve already made our reservation for next year and alerted the owners of our plans for the years after that.Recommended for: Families with young children, age 55+, romantic getaway.

My husband and I have had the good fortune of renting this house for the month of January for six consecutive years (2007 - 2012). To us, it is not just a house, it's a home. It is located in a quiet neighborhood, with a lake just beyond the enclosed pool and lanai. There is nothing like relaxing by the pool while watching and listening to the birds, and later enjoying the sunset. A quick stroll to the beach gives you a chance to collect sea shells like you've never seen. The property is beautifully landscaped and the house is clean and very well equipped. The owners work very hard to make improvements every year, from new rugs, to a completely refurbished master bethroom, to flat screen TV's, etc. It's a great area for riding bikes and you are close to the Ding Darling National Wildlife Refuge. There are great restaurants to try throughout the island - Over Easy or the Lighthouse Cafe for breakfast; Matzaluna's, Doc Ford's, or Trader's for dinner; and Schnapper's Hots for pizza. Or it's a pleasant ride to Captiva to sample restaurants there (the Green Flash is a favorite). We have entertained many family members and friends over the years and everyone loves it there. We simply consider Sanibel and Palm Lake Drive a wonderful escape!Recommended for: Girls getaway, families with young children, sightseeing, age 55+, families with teenagers, adventure seekers, romantic getaway.

THE BEAUTIFUL LAKE VIEW was our favorite feature of this great 3 bedroom 3 bath home. My grandchildren loved all the birds that visited us every morning and evening. Beautiful pool, spa and of course easy access to the best beach on Sanibel. The home is much larger than it looks in the pictures and WE HAVE ALREADY BOOKED AGAIN FOR NEXT YEAR. *******A GREAT VALUE *******Recommended for: People with disabilities, families with young children, sightseeing, age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway.

We have stayed in Sanibel at several different vacation homes and putting all attributes together this was our favorite. The things that make it so good are, easy beach access, nice bikes, large lanai with nice furniture, heated pool and spa, nice gas grill, AC-heat and ceiling fans throught out, WIFI and flat screen TV's. The house was clean when we arrived and the kitchen well appointed. The owners were very easy to deal with during the reservation process. We would definitely return.Recommended for: Girls getaway, families with young children, age 55+, families with teenagers, tourists without a car, adventure seekers, romantic getaway.

Year Purchased: 2006
Why the Owner Chose Private Homes:
We had been vacationing in Sanibel for over 10 years when we first purchased a condo. As our children grew older, we wanted to find a house that possessed all of the comforts of home but allowed us to feel as though we were on vacation in paradise. From the moment we walked onto the lanai and saw the sun setting over the lake, we were sold on this home. The pool and patio, which can be accessed through all the main living areas, were other obvious attractions, as well as the overall 'cozy' feel of the house. Central location on Sanibel with nearby Bailey's Shopping Center and west end of Periwinkle ended up being more convenient than we ever anticipated.
The Unique Benefits at this House:
The house is about as close as you can get to deeded access to the most beautiful beach in the world. It is perfect for sunning or shelling, and there is a even a little pull-off area where you can park bikes.
The home is beautifully integrated with the Palm Lake environment. In morning you can enjoy a cup of coffee while watching the lake come to life. The pool gets plenty of afternoon sun, with evening sunsets over the lake. You can sit back there any time of day and block out the world-- it's just you the lake, the birds, and the pool-- and the bugs can't get in!
