My family had a wonderful time at this cottage, with friends joining us in the smaller cottage. We found the property as described in the listing and believe the photos accurately reflect the appearance and amenities. The property was clean, although not spotless. It's an old cottage, and it feels and looks like one with lots of charm and character, and yes, a few cobwebs. The ample outdoor space, including picnic tables and perfect fire pit area (wood provided), were definite pluses. Great swimming with spectacular views and sunsets. The boat lift is in shallow water, and we were unable to use it as we'd planned, but the buoys just offshore worked great for our boat. We prepared several meals in the kitchen, using the stove and oven daily. Both worked perfectly. The beds were comfortable; and there was plenty of hot water. The owner welcomed us warmly and assured us that he'd be there if we needed anything, but otherwise left us alone, which was just right for us. Overall, a great stay, and we'd return without hesitation.Recommended for: Sightseeing, families with young children, families with teenagers, tourists without a car.

The shower in this cottage has a hot water tank with only a 15-gallon capacity. The owners recently put a new shower head on it which further restricted the flow down to "at most" 1-quart per minute. Even today's water saving shower heads have a flow rate of at least 2-gpm. We may have as well taken a bath in the lake. The lampshades on the lamps were falling apart. In fact, the one in the back bedroom closest to the street rotted and fell downward almost catching fire on the hot bulb. Half of the lights in the cottage either had no light bulbs or no extension cord to reach the outlets. Cobwebs in the lighting fixture above the kitchen table indicates to me that not much cleaning is done between visitors, despite having to be out by 9 am on Saturday for a 6-hour cleaning window. The oven had grease lying in the bottom of it upon our arrival that made it almost impossible to heat up even a loaf of garlic bread without burning the grease in the bottom. The picture of the lake is accurate (it was beautiful) except for the float out in the water. It was homemade and did not have a ladder for my kids to even get up on it to enjoy it. The owners live next door but they never even spoke to us except for telling my wife that she needed to move our car from beside the cottage to across the street. The door knob on the back door literally fell out of the door as it only had a knob for one side of it. The rowboat that came with the cabin was old, the seats mangled and it had no anchor. No life jackets or floating seat cushions were even provided. by the owners. There is not even a basic TV, so couldn't watch the London Olympics. Poor attention to detail and lack of caring by the owners!!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

My husband and I have been staying at John's cottages for 17 years. The calm and quiet escape from the city is a welcome retreat from the ever increasing pace of everyday life. I love relaxing on the dock while the kids search for Petsokey stones in the lake. I'm looking forward to exploring some nearby wine country this summer!Recommended for: Families with young children, romantic getaway, girls getaway.
