We have been coming to Anna Maria Island for over 10 years and Simplicity Cottage is without a doubt the reason we come here. Located at the north end of the island, this home is tucked away on a cult-a -sac in a quite neighborhood, so the traffic is minimal. The home has been renovated with beautiful furnishings and the lay out is perfect for a classic Florida home. It has an open layout with 2 sets of sliding wall doors that open the home to a screened in porch on one side and of course the outdoor space including a fabulous saltwater pool and the canal behind the home. The kitchen is laid out with 2 separate sinks making food preparation and cleaning a breeze. There are amble seating areas inside and out to soak up that Florida sun or read a book, and a covered breezeway to park your vehicle out of the elements. Rod and Reel Pier is a short walk or bike ride away and the ocean is even less. We had the pleasure of meeting the owners on our last day on the island and they are just as nice as the home. We would certainly recommend this home to anyone looking for a fabulous place to stay while visiting Anna Maria Island! You will not be disappointed with Simplicity Cottage.

Owner response: Thank you so much for your kind words. We enjoyed meeting your family and hearing your reaction to Simplicity Cottage. It was so good to learn that you enjoyed the canal front location with fishing and kayaking ... lots of fun for the family. Much of our design of Simplicity Cottage was inspired by Jim's memory of his grandparents' cottage on the beach just a few blocks from our location. We look forward to welcoming you back to our house in the future. Margaret and Jim

Stayed at this vacation home in September 2012. Loved everything about it. Total classy renovation of home and grounds completed recently in an upscale neighborhood to include a new pool and dock on the canal for boating and fishing enthusiasts. Highlights included a peaceful, relaxing setting with total privacy from adjacent neighbors, awesome kitchen, huge walk in shower in master bedroom, great mattresses, and a large family room comfortably furnished with wall mounted flat screen tv and sliding doors to the pool and screened porch. Located on the coveted quiet north end of Anna Maria Island and a short five minute stroll to one of the widest beaches I’ve ever encountered with very few people and lots of seagulls. Owner and owner’s local agent at Sato Real Estate were a pleasure to deal with.

Year Purchased: 1981
About the owner: Jim is a Florida native who vacationed on Anna Maria Island as a child. His grandparents built a cottage here in 1941, having originally come over to the island in the early 1920's by steam ship! Margaret and Jim met in the 3rd grade, married after college and have 3 grown children--Graham, Ian and Meg--and 4 grandchildren. All of us love this island. Our main residence is in West Chester, PA, in an 1876 Victorian town house. Jim is a mechanical engineer who taught in a community college, and Margaret worked as a school psychologist in an independent school. We have hosted many international students in our home and been involved in exchange programs around the world and especially in Japan and the UK. We just retired last year and are enjoying time with family and lots of travel. This year we are headed to Germany for the wedding of one of the exchange students and then on to the Czech Republic.
Why the Owner Chose Anna Maria:
We bought this property in 1981 because of Jim's family connection here and because it is simply the most beautiful beach spot in the world. We knew we wanted to spend time here in retirement and felt we needed to buy early. In December 2011 we completed a renovation of the property, adding a large salt water pool, a screened porch and extra half bath near the pool--and created a totally new 'old' look with a peaked metal roof and 1930s look furnishings. We also added lots of insulation for summer and winter comfort and Florida native landscaping with palms and wild flowers. The location is ideal --a couple blocks from beach and bay, on a wide canal which is like a lake. Iris Street is a cul de sac --so not much traffic and wonderful neighbors.
The Unique Benefits at this House:
We chose this property for location, location and location. The proximity of the gulf beach, the canal with dock and jumping fish, the lack of traffic--and all on the quiet north end of the island and yet close to unique shops and good restaurants--especially the Sand Bar where you can eat--on the beach. (See on of our photos.)
