Keywords: Waterfront...4acres..private....One of the most beautiful and special properties on Eleuthera, Longbight offers a breathtaking setting of manicured grounds filled with coconut palms and blooming bougainvillea on a secluded cove on the leeward (Exuma Sound) side of the island.
Just a five-minute walk from the quiet and friendly settlement of Gregory Town (where guests can easily shop for essentials or hop over to Pam’s Island Made Gift Shop), the four-acre estate includes two homes, a 2,500-square-foot main house and a 700-square-foot cottage, both with A/C and Internet WiFi access. The main home includes two bedrooms that will sleep four (one king and one queen bed); one full bath; an enormous living room with a 30-foot ceiling, floor-to-ceiling book shelves and a conversation-piece giant bamboo couch; a renovated kitchen; den with satellite TV and VCR; and a wide veranda that looks out over the crystal clear, turquoise water of the cove. It’s the perfect perch for morning coffee, endless reading and sunset cocktails (try the local Kalik and Sands beer) with friends.
The cozy cottage comes with a screened porch, living/kitchen area, full bath and bedroom that can sleep up to five—a wonderful space for honeymooners, couples or friends on a budget, or for the overflow of children and grandchildren.
With 300 feet of waterfront, water lovers can pad barefoot down to the beach area to sunbathe, swim, snorkel, kayak, fish and cliff jump (a favorite activity)—and may never see another person all day.
Only two miles away is Surfer’s Beach, considered the best surfing in the Bahamas. But Eleuthera offers dozens of secluded beaches on both the windward and leeward sides of the island that offer views that stretch for miles without seeing any development. Spelunkers can explore nearby caves, and landlubbing sightseers can drive Queen’s Highway north and south to explore Eleuthera’s other charming settlements, such as Governor’s Harbour. A 20-minute drive north will take you to the dock for a five-minute boat ride to Harbour Island’s 18th-century architecture, shops and restaurants for celebrity sightings.
The owners have loved this island, its people and its simple, paired-down lifestyle for decades, and they hope you will, too.
Longbight’s main house is $2,000 a week and the cottage is $800 a week. Rental is one-week minimum.
