This was my first time at the cottage with 5 other friends and the accomodations couldn't have been any better! The photos were right on and everything was clean and well-maintained. We were snug- as-a- bug with the fireplace and wood stove, the heated floors and luxurious flannel linens. The panoramic windows made the lovely outdoors an integral part of our experience. This is not your typical rental! I hope to return seasonally to enjoy all that this cottage has to offer!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

What a wonderful time we had in New York!! Staying at Losse Cottage made it even better. The cottage was very clean and had a nice home-like feel. We loved starting a fire just about everynight that we were there. Great seasoned firewood was provided by the owners. Wonderful kitchen to cook in and wonderful beds to sleep in. We could not ask for anything more. Thanks to the owners and their family for making this home available. We will be back!!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

Eight friends spent a wonderful week-end together - sewing, eating and laughing until our sides hurt. This was the 3rd or 4th time at Losee Lane and we will be back! Our original plan was Friday to Sunday, but a snow storm was predicted for Friday AM. We contacted the owners, who allowed us to book Thursday, on very short notice. We watched the snow fall, warmed by a glowing fire. The road was plowed several times and the walkway shoveled. Couldn't have asked for a nicer time to refresh, rejuvenate and recharge. Thank you Meg and Kate!Recommended for: Families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

We were looking for a place that would allow us to bring Thanksgiving to our son and 3 friends from West Point. This would mean we would need a fully equipped kitchen and space for 6 people. Losee Cottage was a homerun plus! The place sleeps 8 comfortably and with 2 full baths it was easy for everyone to get ready each day! The kitchen was filled with the finest cooking utensils and pots and pans. We had everything we needed to make a grand Thanksgiving dinner with all the trimmings. There was even a lemon zester in the kitchen, a rolling pin and pie pans to make pies and top notch cooking equipment. I was in awe with how well equipped this kitchen was and how easy it was for us to create the Thanksgiving dinner. Even though the house is well heated, we chose to heat the downstairs with a wood burning stove. There is a lovely porch off the kitchen with a large table which was perfect for our Holiday dinner. The boys heated it up with the wood burning stove that was on the porch and it made for a magical Holiday. The home is very comfortable as are all the beds and the boys felt like that had a homey Holiday away from the Military Academy. 1 mile down the road is a wonderful park with lots of hiking trails and we took advantage of this and had a blast. The boys even put up a badminton net they found in the yard and played badminton. I am gluten free and found everything I needed at the grocery store in Pinehurst. We also ate at the restaurant right before the turn off to Cragsmoor and it was delicious! I highly recommend this property and would rent it again!Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, romantic getaway.

The home for us was enjoyable! it was like we were in a large mountain cabin in kokee on the island of kauai where we come from. For us island folks it was a beautiful difference! And very spacious to connect with good friends that we rarely get to visit. The long trip from kauai and time difference, the home was nice to rest and catch up to New York time. The hike up Sam's point was sooooo enjoyable to really appreciate God's beautiful creation. Yes,, I definitely would like to return!Recommended for: Age 55+, families with young children, girls getaway, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

We really enjoyed this awesome hideaway in the hills. Very roomy, clean & comfortable to say the least. Bedrooms were not cramped, living room open and could accommodate sizeable gathering . We had four couples staying and entertained at least as many more, without feeling cramped. Enclosed patio was especially enjoyable, views of the surrounding scenery without getting wet was nice. Cooking meals was easy with the well stocked kitchen. With all the cooks in the home, nothing was found lacking in preparation & serving meals. Quite easy to find for friends visiting to or from Wallkill Farm and Pinebush area. Just a 15 - 20 min drive back and forth. Short, scenic hike to Sam's Point Reserve made a memorable impression on those of us that took the time to make the trek. The owner was very attentive and easy reached if needed. The pictures, though nice, do not even begin to express the beauty and character of this home and it's setting. We will definitely use the home again in the future and highly recommend it to anyone.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

This house is the epitome of peaceful. It is set in the middle of the woods so much so that you will miss the turn into the driveway if you are not careful. Once you walk in, the house has such a warm and inviting feel to it that you will just want to kick your shoes off and make yourself comfortable. It definitely has a woman’s touch to it! The pictures do not lie but they don’t do the house justice! The owners were very accommodating; they replied to every email promptly before the trip and there is a binder at the house with directions to the neighborhood attractions and stores. When we arrived, we took a look at the FULLY stocked kitchen, picked up the directions binder and headed straight to the supermarket! Everything you need for a good trip is supplied for you! Just bring you, food and clothing (which may be optional since the house is isolated!!). We had a great time and I was actually sad to leave once the weekend was over. I have recommended this house to everyone since the trip and I can’t wait to book the second round!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The house is perfect for a family or friends. It's quiet, beautiful, big, clean. The kitchen has everything you need, if you love to cook. If you love to hike, you can hike without taking the car, in a beautiful park ( 0.8miles from the house) We enjoyed the BBQs, the kitchen and the huge living room. The bedrooms are big and all the linens are furnished ( for the beds and towels) It's only 2h from the NYC. We loved the several doe we saw from in the backyard in the morning. To conclude, We loved it very much, nothing bad to say.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

We had a wonderful time in Cragsmoor at the Losee Cottage. A beautiful house in a beautiful place! Very comfortable and easy to be in. We had everything we needed for the week (for us and for two young children), and really appreciated all of the extra information the owners provided about the area. Sitting on the deck watching hummingbirds, grilling and playing in the yard, using the dining porch, Sam's Point and the Stone Church right down the road, Minnewaska a very manageable drive, and during our stay, even the Dutchess County Fair! Thank you, we hope to be back soon!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

This home was not only quiet, comfortable and serene but also totally exceeded my expectations! You can tell that the owner and caretaker take immense pride in this property- it is organized, extremely clean and very inviting. There was plenty of information about the 'goings on' in the area as well as a guide book as to the 'where's and whats' of the home itself. As a self-proclaimed chef I was ecstatic at how well the kitchen was stocked with gadgets, pans and appliances!! The stove and oven are newer, neat and clean. The apron front sink was great- I've been wanting one in my own home for years! This home has a TON of character in every room and is the perfect marriage of rustic charm and the modern-day conveniences that we all need while on vacation. There are plenty of books, board games (I won at Scrabble!!) and magazines that are located throughout the main floor. The bedrooms are neat and cozy with plenty of available linens and towels. I loved the upstairs bathroom pedestal sink and shower/tub. The owners were extremely easy to communicate with and helped us change the dates of our stay when a conflict arose. I look forward to staying in your wonderful home again and would highly recommend this property to anyone who wants a quiet, secluded mountain vacation.Owner response: We are delighted you had such a wonderful stay and are very pleased that our kitchen passed a chefs inspection! We try to provide at least the basics in the kitchen - cast iron skillets, a decent set of Cuisinart pots and pans, a wok, large roaster for Thanksgiving, a Dutch oven for fall stews and a basic collection of baking equipment and cook books. We would be happy to hear any suggestions to improve the kitchen because one of the fun things about the house and a vacation in the country is the time to cook up a good meal no matter what cultural delicacy you decide to cook up. So if you have any suggestions about cooking equipment, spices etc that might may the stay more enjoyable, we would be happy to hear them! We are lucky to have Hannaford Pine Bush supermarket and pharmacy, Petes market, which sells local organic meat and produce in Ellenville and a number of local produce stands along the highways. But we do try to provide some basics just in case you arrive late and dont want to run back to the store - olive and canola oil, balsamic vinegar, coarse salt and peppercorn grinders, cinnamon, nutmeg, baking soda and powder, a small collection of seasonings and at least one nights supply of coffee, tea, milk and sugar and sugar substitute. If you are really in a bind for dinner, the restaurant, Stoney Brae, is just 2 miles from the house.

We absolutely loved staying at this Mountain home. We came to Cragsmoor for a friends wedding and were joined after a few days by three other couples. There was enough room for all of us to spread out and enjoy our escape. The house is very well maintained and cared for, the kitchen is wonderful with modern appliances, and there are 50 windows for a wonderful night breeze. Cragsmoor is a very special hamlet with lots of hiking at Sam's point and also close to Lake Minnewaska for swimming and more hiking. There is no commerce at all in Cragsmoor, but we went shopping at the Hannafords in Pine Bush and never needed anything anyway since cooking on the grill and in the spacious kitchen was a joy for us small apartment city dwellers. There are restaurants close by though for those who prefer to be cooked for. We will definitely be back!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, romantic getaway.

Our stay at the Loosee Cottage was wonderful! It is so cozy and cute. We were celebrating my grandparents 60th wedding anniversary. There were 10 of us and we truely enjoyed the accomodations. Everything was fresh and clean which made our stay quite comfortable. Anything we needed was at our finger tips, and then some! My grandparents were so delighted and are ready to book again next year. Who knows, it may be sooner than that!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with young children, girls getaway, pet owners, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

Okay, so my wife and I (and our dog Lola) have been coming to the area for one-week stays for decades. This was the best of them all. It did help that we had wonderful weather, but it was the comfort of the place and access to everything that did it. I golf, and I was able to go to an excellent 9-hole course in Ellenville on the cheap. And there was also Hannaford's for our food (I cook). But when the end of the day came, we just read and crashed, and we stayed sometimes on the deck and sometimes in front and sometimes in the spacious living room. Thank you Meg for your place and we'll see you next June if not before.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

My family and I stayed here for a week to go hiking in the Shawangunks and the Losee Cottage was the perfect location to access Sam's Point, Minnewaska State Park and the Mohonk Preserve. The home is beautiful and has everything you would ever need for a vacation. The area is quiet and secluded. I appreciated the time and effort it took to think about the possible questions renters might have and already have them answered with the clearly written instructions I received prior to your stay. Communication with Meg was very easy. I highly recommend Losee Cottage and hope to come back soon.Owner response: We are so glad you had a chance to enjoy the great outdoor spaces in the Shuwangunk range and then come back to relax in the cottage. There are such pretty vistas, deep forests and open crags in the area. The wildlife population is making a real comeback too and you never know quite what you'll see or hear as you hike through the woods and crags. The preserves all offer something different we think: Sam's Point is a brief walk up the road and has a lovely visitors center with an exhibit of local flora and fauna; plus it's trails and the ice caves. Then there are the lovely lakes to swim in and carriage roads to bike and hike on at Minnewaska for a small admittance fee. Mohonk Preserve is something different; It is pricy - the day pass is $20-$25 (discounts for families) but it's gardens, paths and carriage roads are lovely. The hotel is really something to look at. You can't go inside with a day pass but you can buy a spa or meal pass which gives you access to the grounds and hotel plus either the spa or a meal.

Six quilters and myself have just returned from a wonderful week end at Losee Cottage. The house is amazing and exceeded our expectations. Well stocked with everything we needed. There was plenty of room for us to spread out with sewing machines, fabric and all that goes with our quilting activities. We were thrilled to meet Meg, the owner, who stopped in to bring some extra's. Our group was extremely happy and hated to leave. We could not have asked for more and will be back.Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, girls getaway.
Owner response: It was an absolute delight having you as guests in our cottage. I am so glad you enjoyed yourselves and found the cottage so comfortable, relaxing and also a place to create your wonderful art. That is what makes renting such a pleasure for us! We look forward to seeing you again soon!

We were up last summer. What a complete pleasure. We didn't know what to expect, but the minute we got there we felt right at home. Our two teenagers had a terrific time too. It was just like having our own ancestral country lodge. The weather was exquisite. Cool mountain breezes in the evenings on this amazing huge porch. Grilling every night. All the amenities were terrific. Very convenient shopping and all sorts of dining in the area. We're coming back as soon as we can find another week next summer.Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, pet owners, romantic getaway, sightseeing.
