South Ponte Vedra Beach house description
The Pelican House Awaits! Treat yourself to a beach house retreat -come for a few days, a week, or a month. Here at the Pelican House, perched half way between Ponte Vedra and St Augustine, you need only look out through the glass-walled doors of the great room to experience a glorious morning sunrise or to the west to see the sun kissing the skyline goodnight with a warmly painted sunset over Guana Preserve.
Here scenic Route A1A runs the length of the Guana Preserve on the West and the Atlantic Ocean on the East - a mere 20 feet from your deck. Listen to the wind rustling through the sea oats or the calm roll of the surf as you drift off to sleep. Enjoy a full day of warm sun and clear, blue-green water, stroll on velvet-smooth sand - a treasure trove for shell seekers. Shark's teeth, starfish, and stingray egg casings are also there for you to discover.
The Pelican House boasts a large, beachfront master suite on the north side of house with a king bed and private bath with stall shower - complete with private patio and generous closet space. The great room overlooks the vast horizon of the beach where you can spot squadrons of pelicans rising above the waves. If it gets chilly you can enjoy the warmth emanating from the cozy fireplace in the dining area or go outside and roast marshmallows in the chiminea. Two guest bedrooms on the south side of house share a second bath and a large deck area and fenced yard just outside the back door. There is even an outside shower to wash off the salt and sand before you go inside after a day at the beach.
Cook up your favorite meal in the fully equipped kitchen and eat by the dining room fireplace or bring it outside to enjoy your sunset feast at the picnic table - or cook outside on the gas grill and skip the kitchen cleanup. Excellent waterfront dining venues just minutes away, too.
If you want a superlative view of the beach without even getting your feet sandy, climb the ladder to to a raised deck we call Susan's perch just off the master patio. Bring a chair and a beverage - you will want to linger awhile, and it is a great perch to watch the rest of the family playing on the beach. Or bring your surfboard and catch a wave - there is a good break that runs the length of the property about 20 yards out. There are even four boogie boards waiting for you at the house.
The main entrance to Guana Preserve is just a few minutes up the road. You can go on kayaking adventures, tour the wildlife center, take guided hikes, or walk or bike on the marked trails. Nature abounds in the park and there is great fishing in Guana Lake.
Boutique shopping and great restaurants abound in Ponte Vedra at Sawgrass Village (15 minute drive north) and the historic City of St Augustine (15 minute drive south) offers gourmet dining, tours of the old fort, rides in horse-drawn carriages, art galleries, festivals and live music (see St Augustine Amphitheatre). Some of the world's finest golf is nearby at Sawgrass, the World Golf Village/Hall of Fame, First Tee for the kids, Marineland just 25 minutes away where the kids can swim with the dolphins or just watch the show. And if you need more to do, Walt Disney World is just over a 2 hour drive.
The Pelican House is designed to be your very own beach cottage for the length of your stay and includes Direct TV in three rooms, brand new washer and dryer, wireless internet, and even a cell phone enhancer which will help you stay in touch (if you must). Enjoy being so close to the beach you won't even need to take a cooler for your drinks - just walk back to the refrigerator - but with the quiet privacy of an out-of-the-way escape. You may come for just a weekend, but you'll remember it for a lifetime.

Super Place to Stay!
Super Place to Stay!
We were in the area to take my daughter to the Mayo Clinic, and figured we would all be more comfortable at a house, and one that was ocean front for the times we weren't at the clinic would be great. The house is SO comfortable inside, with the master suite separated from the two smaller bedrooms by the living/dining and kitchen area. My daughter took the bedroom with the one single bed that faced the ocean, and we used the master suite. Our cat loved roaming the house - and his favorite thing was having his harness and leash on to go on an Explore behind the house! He loved the raised viewing area - scooted right up the ladder! The beach is literally right behind the house, a very easy access. The house came with beach towels, and very neat semi-fitted covers for the lounge chairs with pockets to hold phones or sunscreen or books. There were also boogie boards, although it was too cool for swimming when we were there. The beach is lovely, easy to walk on, and looked like it would be fine for swimming in warmer weather. We liked being between St. Augustine and Jacksonville Beach - easy to go one way to eat out one night, head in the other direction the next night. There is a Publix just down the road in Vilano Beach - seemed to be the closest grocery, although there is a gas station/convenience store even closer in that direction. We were greeted with fresh flowers - a truly special touch! The house is quite near the nature reserve, with lots of boat landings for boaters. The beds were quite comfortable, and we would definitely rent this house again if we had the chance!!! I did recommend this for people with disabilities, with the caveats that there is a step down to the master suite; and you need to bring your own shower chair and grab bars. One note of warning - the kitchen is small, although well equipped, but does NOT have a dishwasher!!!!

Pelican house was perfect for my new hubby and I. We stayed in early march expecting the weather to be a bit iffy, but it was absolutely beautiful (high 80's all week)! The beach was nice and remote and the house was close to Jacksonville beach as well as St. Augustine. The house was very clean and plenty of room for 6-8 people, so we enjoyed the space all to ourselves! I would reccomend the property to all age groups!

I have traveled extensively and stayed in B&B's/vacation rentals all over the world, but this beach is amazing! Pelican house has the perfect blend of remoteness and accessibility to fine food, shopping, outdoor adventure with the Guana Preserve literally within walking distance, beach front out your front door, old St Augustine 15 minutes down the road with its boutiques, old fort for the guys. The house was left for us in immaculate condition - thanks so much Sarah for your attention to detail - the fresh flowers and welcome basket were so swett for my sister's birthday gathering. Plenty of opportunity to cook for ourselves in the kitchen with barbecue grill out on the patio - smores were great by the dining room fireplace (-: Sleeping accomodations were perfect for those who wanted to sleep late - it's a quiet house so no need to tiptoe around if you're an early riser getting up for the sunrise on the beach. We'll find a reason to come againand again!
