Map & Owner's Profile
The Roman Well - Spacious 15th Cent 2 Baths Duplex Apartment
Why the Owner Chose Cortona
In their literary works, "The Aeneid" and the "Divine Comedy," Virgil and Dante tell us of their journey in Cortona and of the inspirations they found in this beautiful Etruscan city. Being in Cortona allows me to share the culture and the beauty that inspired these poets.
I also like Etruscan Art and Cortona allows me the opportunity to visit its Etruscan Museum which exposes all kinds of Etruscan artistic expressions--terracotta vases, jewelery, and much more-- that have been found in the territory of Cortona.
The central location and the narrow street on which the apartment is located, the Roman-style well and the 16th century fire-place, the wooden beams ceiling and the original terracotta floor, make my vacations in this apartment truly inspirational.
The Unique Benefits at this Apartment
The apartment is central: within a one-minute walk I am in the main Piazza, where I can visit museums, galleries, churches and other interesting places. Though my apartment is central,it is located in a very quiet area. This allows me to work quietly and to be able to meet my friends in the main square, or visit any of the beautiful spots, within a one minute walk.
Owner's Map of Cortona
I teach literature, from Antiquity to the Middle Ages and the Renaissance: Virgil, Dante, Boccaccio, Petrarca, and Ariosto, among others.

Before we left for Italy, we were supplied with an incredibly helpful package from Rosa with recommendations, phone numbers, hints and detailed information about Cortona, train stations, taxis, and so much more. We opted to take a train to Terontola and our taxi and Denise were waiting. Check in was easy, the apartment was very convenient and comfortable and in no time we felt like locals. WiFi wasn't available, but it was fun to go to our favorite Enoteca at the end of Via National each morning for a latte and to check on the SF Giants games. Lots of great restaurants only minutes from the apt. This was our first experience with VRBO and it will be my preferred method of booking in the future. If I want to stay up and read or listen to music, there are plenty of other rooms for me to do so without disturbing my husband. We will stay here again on our next trip to Cortona.

My mother, teenage daughter and I recently stayed at The Roman Well and couldn't have been happier with our stay. Cortona was delightful, Rosa very easy to deal with and Laura a great assitance when we got there. The apartment was perfectly situated, steps away form everything we wanted to do, clean and comfortable. I would definitely recommend the property to anyone who wants to visit the area.

We recently stayed at the Roman Well in Cortona. It is a terrific property in an amazing location. Every morning it was a short walk to the market for breakfast. Parking was very accessible. 30 seconds into the main piazza in Cortona. It couldn't have been better. Cortona is a great launching pad for anywhere in Tuscany/Umbria -- Florence/Rome. Great train access. Rosa was terrific to work with. She made our stay seamless and very easy. We look forward to returning to the Roman Well.

My wife, mother and I spent a week at the Roman Well apartment at the end of May 2008. The apartment was fantastic, with all the necessary amenities. Cortona is a fantastic town, and the apartment is right near the main street. Rosa was excellent to deal with, and Laura was there to meet us when we arrived. I would highly reccommend this apartment to anyone visiting Cortona - but stay at least one week!

My husband and I and daughter had a delightful time at The Roman Well. The apartment is superbly located and all of Cortona was at our footsteps. The apartment was clean, comfortable and charming! We can't recommend this highly enough and look forward to returning someday if the stock market ever gets better.

Our experience at the Roman Well Apartment was everything I wanted it to be. I was delighjted with Cortona and thrilled that the apartment turned out to be more than I ever expected. It was spacious, clean and very nicely decorated. It is so centralized to everything. It is within walking distance of buses, stores and resteraunts. Our experience was what I wanted Italy to be and I was not disapointed. The young lady, Laura, who met us in Cortona and took us to the apartment was a delightful experience. She is a very sweet girl.

Our family of four (our kids are 7 and 9) had a great time in Cortona at the Roman Well. Rosa has a wonderful apartment, in a perfect location. It is right off of the main street but was also very quiet. Everything was so pretty and thoughtfully planned out. The apartment is immaculate and beautifully decorated, with an amazing 2000 year old well! We enjoyed a day at the nearby municipal pool(incredible views all around), and had terrific meals in town. The town itself is a wonderful mix of stores and restaurants, without being too touristy. From Cortona we visited Arezzo, Assisi, Perugia, and Panicale. Rosa was lovely and helpful, providing ample information to enjoy our visit. We hope to return! Nicole and Paul Church

"My husband and I, and two other friends of ours, have rented The Roman Well two times: in July of 2002 and in December of 2006. We have returned, and we are planning to return to this property again next year, because the apartment is very charming, comfortable, clean, well-furnished and very cozy. I like this property also because, being conveniently located in the center of Cortona, within minutes we are able to get to any of the local restaurants, galleries, stores, etc. Also, within a few minutes from the apartment we can take a bus to the nearby cities or the nearby train stations for Florence, Rome, Assisi, etc. This saves us the high expense of renting a car. We especially appreciate the fact that while vacationing in this property we feel right at home because of Laura, a young woman from Cortona who speaks English very well and meets us in Piazza when we arrive by taxi. She helps us to the apartment and during our vacation, she is always available to come and help us when we need her help. And the fact that she does not live right next door is very encouraging. We rented other properties in the past where the owner lived right above, or next door from the property they rent us, but that made us uncomfortable because, in a way we felt they were always there ready to tell us to be careful with their property. With this property we feel at home, yet free to enjoy the apartment our own way. We highly recommend staying at The Roman Well," Alba, NY.
