Year Purchased: 1989
About: Born in Paris, France, Bob Gow grew up in Worchester, Massachusetts and graduated from Yale University. He currently resides in Houston, Texas, but has lived in twenty-five different countries for short periods of time. An incredibly interesting resume, Bob has been in thirty-five different enterprises throughout his career.
Bob chose the Hacienda Xixim after an exhaustive search of twenty-three haciendas while driving down a small jungle road. Today that very road is paved and serves as a major highway that cuts through thousands of acres of bamboo plantation that is the Hacienda Xixim. The reason for the purchase was to have a Mayan hideaway deep in the jungle. Much has happened over the twenty-three years since, but it has never lost its proximity to dozens of Mayan sites and other extraordinary adventures within a couple of hours of the hacienda. For Bob, his hacienda has never failed to be a magical and relaxing place to enjoy every kind of delicious food, refreshing drinks of all kinds, and the beauty of nature. With his grandchildren basically grown, Bob is now able to share this incredible place with others from around the world.
The Unique Benefits at this Villa:
For the last twelve years Bob has had the good fortune to enjoy the services of a professional chef formerly from the Hyatt in Merida. The drinks and food that he prepares are beyond exceptional. One of the biggest benefits of the hacienda are the 128,000 bamboo plants on property plus four working factories that turn them into beautiful furniture, roofs, and fences. The many games (croquet, baseball, touch football, and basketball) available to play have made the hacienda a playground for Bob's grandchildren over the years with the added benefit of an inviting pool for cooling off afterwards. Another favorite pass-time enjoyed by Bob over the years has been sitting next to a nearby cave while washing down bacon-wrapped oysters with the chef's special margaritas watching one million bats emerge.
