Our family enjoyed a memorable stay at this beautiful cottage in Bailey Island, Maine. The home's interior, as well as the location, was stunning. The cottage looks brand new with fine finishes, tasteful decor and innovative design elements abounding throughout. Most enjoyable was the kitchen which featured plentiful storage, quality cooking necessities and top-of-the line appliances. The view, particularly from the Master Bedroom and living room will be forever remembered. Ships passing, birds playing and impressive islands basking in sunlight are a few images that will delight your eyes. The main lawn of the house is expansive and the small stone beach is accessible through a modest path. Bailey Island is a naturally spectacular location and a must-visit for Mainer's and non-Mainer's alike. The town was quiet, being that it was mid-March, but we found plenty of things to do. Cook's, Land's End Gift Shop, Giants Steps hike, Oxbow Brewing, Popham Beach are all enjoyable experience (in differing distances from the home). The homeowners are accessible and kind -- truly representative of "Maine hospitality". 3 Recommendations: Cutting boards, a larger couch and larger dining table would be nice. These minor things were hardly missed during the stay, but would make this cottage even more heavenly.Owner response: We are so pleased you enjoyed you visit to Friendly Cottage and Bailey Island. Your recommendations are always welcome and we have actually been looking for a replacement dining room table so the next time you come to visit you will likely see a differnt table. The larger couch is difficult since the space is limited for both a large couch and larger dining table. More cutting boards good idea too. Thank you for your comments and come visit us again. This was our first experience renting a home for vacation. I don't know how we lucked out so successfully! Friendly Cottage was perfect. The cottage is within a few steps of the ocean, the architecture of the cottage is beautiful, the decorating of the inside is wonderful and lends to a completely cozy, comfortable stay. The entire cottage was spotless. EVERYTHING is available in the cottage for an ideal vacation -- the rooms are large, the kitchen is fully stocked with all the plates, utensils, pots and pans one would need to cook (we had Thanksgiving dinner here!), there are outlets galore for all of your gadgets to be plugged in, there are even some games and balls or frisbees available for fun! One can either walk down a path right to the beach, or chairs are provided to look over the small cliff closest to the main house (we took advantage of these chairs multiple times -- it was heavenly to sit there and listen to the waves crash). Portland is about an hour away to the south -- we took a day trip to see Light Up night there. Boothbay Harbor is about an hour away the other direction. Next visit, though, I think we'll just stay on the island and enjoy the area. There's more than enough to do there, and I don't see why anybody would want to go anywhere else. We had dinner at the Giant Steps Seafood Grille, a quick walk from Friendly Cottage, and we were extremely happy with our meal there which was GREAT and unbelievably reasonably priced. But what made us even happier was the lovely young waitress and her wonderful interaction with the other customers. We also visited Mackerel Cove, the Giant Stairs [our son said that's where good geologists go to die!], and Lands End beach. This was exactly the relaxing vacation our family needed. My thanks to the owner for providing such a wonderful place -- we're already planning for next year!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 1/1

Just returned from a wonderful week at Friendly Cottage. The place was new and well equipped, and the location could not be beat from just hanging on the lawn looking out to the sea or taking the short walk or drive to local eateries. The owner's were beyond accomodating. We had our two young boys with us and they absolutely loved being able to walk right to the rocky shore to collect rocks, shells and sea glass.Recommended for: Romantic getaway, families with young children, sightseeing.

This place is so beautiful and peaceful. You fall asleep and wake up to the sounds of crashing waves and seagulls. The property is beautiful, the owners are lovely, and the location is spectacular. It is a quick trip to Cook's Corner for grocery shopping or a Starbucks run. The drive to and from Cook's Corner is very pretty, as well. We sampled the local fare (fried haddock, baked stuffed lobster, haddock chowder, fried scallops, fried clams) at Morse's and Cook's Lobster, all very good. The it is a fun excursion to both the Land's End store and Giant Steps. I would love to come back again, as this location is a keeper!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 1/1

This was a high quality, perfectly located cottage. It is a brand new cottage with the owners on site with their own beautiful home. The owners were most gracious and helpful and as the name of the cottage is, "The Friendly Cottage", it held true to its name. The views were stunning. The small, intimate beach was fun to search for sea glass and when the tide was high you were able to cool yourself off. However, don't forget to bring your swimmy shoes if you want to go in deeper. We mostly appreciated the eco friendly energy used to provide utilities to the property. It was quite impressive. We recommend the haddock chowder from the "Giant Stairs" restaurant, which is a short walk away from the house. We are looking forward to a return trip. (:Did you find this review helpful? We just returned home from a weeklong stay in this beautiful vacation rental. The house is new and very clean. The views are amazing and the owners were very helpful as far as planning day trips and making sure our stay was comfortable. We ended up booking two of the homes on the property but ended up using Friendly Cottage as our main dining and "hang out" space because the kitchen was perfectly set up for entertaining. We are looking forward to returning to this beautiful spot someday. The cottage was perfect!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, tourists without a car, families with teenagers, families with young children, sightseeing.

This is a brand new cottage and looks the part. The owners live on the property and their house sits just in front to the right of the cottage but you still have a good ocean view from the cottage. Because it's new, everything was in excellent condition and it was spotless when we arrived. Great kitchen, great views from most bedroooms. There is a short path to the beach which is rocky and not really suited to swimming but 30 seconds away by car or 10 minutes walk, there's a great cove and beach where you can swim. All basic needs can be met by the General Store which is walkable. We ate twice at Cook's which was fun for the kids and the adults- great place and 5 minutes from the cottage.Recommended for: Age 55+, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, families with young children, sightseeing.
