The cottage is clean, warm and inviting. The host Rebecca is extremely hospitable and attentive to her guests. This is the perfect place for a family/girls get away and you can even bring your pup who will enjoy the spacious back yard!

Owner response: How very nice of you to write such a wonderful review. You and your family, babies, pup, are such wonderful guests. Thank you so much for choosing my property.
I loved the entire stay however short, from start to finish. I will absolutely stay here again. I went jogging down to the water and loved every bit. The bed was very comfortable, as was everything else! Great choice!

Our stay at the house was absolutely perfect! We could not wish for anything. The house has an amazing location and atmosphere. The kids (and the adults) loved the huge yard with the swings and climbing ropes. Clean and perfectly stocked kitchen, heavenly beds, plenty of towels, beach chairs, umbrellas and toys for the beach. All we needed was there including treats for the dogs! We definitely will make it a tradition to come back to the house each year!

Owner response: Monica, thank you so much for your lovely comments about the property! I try really hard to set up a place for a special guest stay, and I'm glad I hit the mark for you and your family!!! :)
My friends and I rented the downstairs house for the weekend along with out 2 dogs. The yard was amazing, the house very clean and there was even a bottle of wine a bottle of water and treats for the dog. I would definitely recommend this property and would likely go back myself during the summer as it is very close to the dog beach.

The Yard changed my life
The Yard changed my life
Truman's head darted in tight methodical glances, surveying the yard from the safety of his perch thirty feet up on the deck where my wife and I sit lazily finishing our breakfast. He hears something. Or perhaps he hears everything in the rich wooded canopy enveloping the house. Unfiltered nature, over a dozen different birds chatter away on a Sunday morning. Back in the city, the four month old Truman has already numbed his senses to the trauma of sirens and other urban noises outside our apartment. But here some 90 miles up from Los Angeles in the shadows of the San Ynez Mountains he is a pure novice. It's a weekend of many firsts for the young labradoodle--his first time staying out in the country, his first time racing into the salt water after his favorite toy at the off leash dog beach. We fell in love with this place the moment we popped out of our car and came around the side of the house, down the steeply packed stairs revealing the yard. A large sweeping stretch of well tended grass dotted by trees of all sorts, surrounded by woods, unfolded down the hill behind the house. Three or four different rope swings, a hammock and even a zip line draped from various branches of these leafy encampments. You could feel the countless hours of childhood that had conspired here, leaving their mark in the patches of brown dirt under the rope swings, faded tether ball and a stray baseball just a few feet into the woods. We even remarked how we felt as though it was our own private park, a side effect of too many years trapped on the grid of Los Angeles. Even for Santa Barbara this kind of groomed oasis was rare. Walking down to the yard was our first stop, even before hitting the house. Truman instantly galloped half the length of the yard before turning back to show us his booming grin and flopping tongue, checking also to see if it was okay to keep running ahead. I jogged up a few steps to signal it was, and quickly both Truman and I were in full sprint to the far end of this frontier, the happiest either of us had been for weeks. This was a last minute getaway for our young family. I used to think that was a marketing term whipped up by travel websites to dump unsold inventory. Getaway was exactly what was on my mind as the fervor of the nation's birthday week picked up steam. Simply magical. I needed the blanket of nature to pull me out of the funk I had picked up from overworking. - MH

Owner response: Dear Carly and Marc, Your review was very sentimental for me to read. I raised 3 boys here and created the best wonderland in that yard I could for them, and continue to for the enjoyment of kids that may come. It is a special property, and that's why I chose this one. Thank you, in the very special way you did, write about it...what you wrote was truly my vision for this home. I shared this with the 2 others that help to create and maintain the home, yard and gardens, they were touched as well.
We had a wonderful stay at Rebecca's garden with our dog and our 10 year old granddaughter. The property is beautiful, quiet and private. The large lawn is shaddy and irresistable to a dog! The bonus is that there is a zip line for kids, two rope swings, a hammock swing, a two tree swings a tether ball and a regular hammock. Easy to hang out and rest. The interior is cozy and well equiped for cooking and hanging out inside or outside. Our only negative experience was the upstairs guests were very loud the first night and again the second night. But Rebecca took care of the problem as soon as we realized she was not upstairs and gave her a call. We loved this place and hope to visit again soon!

Owner response: Thank you Lynda for your really wonderful review! I'm so happy you had a good time. I will screen better in the future because I want to make sure I don't rent out for young persons' parties. It's a very relaxing property and I do so much to create that ambience for my guests, it's not set up for parties that would be disruptive to other guests on another part of the property.
Great quiet spacious place to stay with an amazing yard for family to let loose!
Great quiet spacious place to stay with an amazing yard for family to let loose!
We were here 5 days and Found Rebecca's house to be very clean, stocked with an abundance of wonderful thick towels, bathrobes and comfy beds. The kitchen had most gadgets you would need for cooking as well as spices. Also, a nice bottle of wine as well as a bottle of sparkling cider were in the frig for us upon arrival. A variety of coffee, tea and others were placed in kitch for us which was nice. It is Easy to find and has good parking. It's all about the yard here! We hosted a Westmont College graduation party BBQ and the yard came in wonderfully for croquette (we brought),, the swings, tether ball and zip lines were also fun too. Theres a great deck with BBQ which over looks the huge yard! The house is a tad dated but Rebecca has done much to make it totally comfortable where you can relax and put your feet up without worrying. Furniture is all new as were the beds i think. There's some of her art on the walls which adds a nice warm touch. She also has a myriad of games and a plethora of books in event you need something to read or do while you relax. Rebecca was lovely in person and prompt on returning my message when the dishwasher wouldn't turn on. (apparently one must be firmer and more forceful with older dishwashers to make them start :) There's also a great dog run under the large deck that would be great for dogs.. I would definitely recommend the house for families or even nice for 2 couples with kids. There is a huge sofa sectional and she has supplied foam foldouts for others to sleep. I would not recommend this house for anyone who cant climb stairs as there are many. We make frequent visits to Santa Barbara and will definitely look into staying here again.

Owner response: Thank you Joy! I really try hard to make sure I can make the place as wonderful as possible for guests! From your great feedback, I am replacing the dishwasher, and I've just redone the lighting to modernize it! I'm so glad you enjoyed the yard with a game of croquette! I'm getting a set to add to the games there. Great idea of yours!! :))
Just stayed at Rebeccas' unit for Alumni weekend and we couldnt have been more impressed. The beds were better than ever and the yard was bigger than expected. The patio is great for BBQ or just lounging around on a beautiful Santa Barbara day. Rebecca is a great host and very responsive to any questions or concerns. Highly recommend and would definitely stay here again! Thanks Rebecca!

Owner response: Dear Dean, Thank you so much for your kind review! Thanks for mentioning about the backyard being so big... the pictures really don't show the scale of the yard, it's almost an acre backed up against natural wild land. I love the comment about the beds!!! I wanted them to feel super luxurious! So happy it turned out like that! Hope you might come stay again! Best to you, Rebecca
Perfect Santa Barbara Getaway
Perfect Santa Barbara Getaway
I can't express how lovely this rental is. First off, the pictures don't lie. The apartment is clean and welcoming. The garden is beautifully blooming. The back yard is HUGE. Perfect for kids and dogs to run and play. There are swings and lots of tree cover. And the deck is perfect for grilling and outdoor dining. Absolutely amazing for Angelinos (or other city folk) to get out and breathe some clean air. We came out for a concert at the SB bowl and a weekend of wine tasting. The host has her system dialed for a seamless arrival. Everything is all setup and no coordination of arrival times is needed. And so affordable for what you get. Our entire party was so stoked on the place. Highly recommended!

We stayed here with our 2 toddlers and our family lab. The backyard is exactly as described - huge green space with different kinds of swings and even a zipline. The kids and dog loved it. The house itself is fine - the appliances work but are very old and need upgrading. One problem we had was the heating system - it definitely needs work (thermostat is non functional - owner has promised to fix it, is currently controlled off rental premises which leaves the place too hot or too cold). The house needs some child-proofing as well. We really liked the owner- very gracious, helpful and wants to address any issues that might arise. She came over immediately when she heard of our issues and adjusted the thermostat from her premises. We also got a great bottle of wine that we thoroughly enjoyed :)

Why the Owner Chose The Mesa (Beach Area):
This property is very unique because of it's large yard, views, serenity. Rare in Santa Barbara, very rural setting, but 2 minutes to the beach. No neighbors can see into your unit.
The Unique Benefits at this Cottage:
Bird watching, wildlife, peaceful setting, seclusion, nature setting. Kids will love the huge yard to run around and play in. There are all kinds of rope swings, a hammock, and a Tarzan rope set amongst the oak trees. The backyard is big enough to play soccer, frisbee, and more. The lawn is huge. Watch the kids play while you lounge on the deck sipping wine. Run your doggie. The property is partially unfenced in the backyard, so you can just walk through the back yard to take long walks and hikes on the adjacent hillsides for spectacular views. For dog owners, the yard is 70% fenced...but since the flat area of the yard, the huge lawn is at the bottom of the property, for your dog to run away during a walk it is very inconvenient for your puppy to find his way to the road way above, or anywhere else, there are natural boundaries of brush. The property house sits on a hillside over looking the yard and hills. It is 1/2 a flight of stairs to lawn level, so the overview of the yard and your group from your deck is lovely. Close to go to downtown Santa Barbara (5 mins), Montecito (8 mins), harbor (7 mins), closest beach is 2 mins. 8 mins to SB airport and UCSB, It is very easy to get to all the scenic tourist spots, within minutes.
