Our 10th year!
Our 10th year!
I think this was our 10th year staying in this apartment, so obviously we like it. The location is outstanding, a half block from the beach and a short walk to the center of Rehoboth (close enough to be convenient, but far enough away to be quiet). There are two buildings with two apartments each on the property with a bit tight, important in the summer when parking is hard to find, parking spot for each apartment. The grounds are well maintained, and my wife always takes note of the well cared for plants and flower beds. Especially in this apartment, in the back of the property on the first floor, there is a feeling of privacy that we love, and when we are not on the beach we spend a lot of time on the just-rebuilt porch at meals or reading, alongside our beverage of choice. The apartment itself is always neat, clean, well-furnished, and worked well for four (the two parents and two teenagers that stayed that first year) or two (the almost empty-nesters who stayed this year). The owners are friendly and responsive, and work continually to improve the place. We are already looking forward to next year.

Perfect location, clean and cozy.
Perfect location, clean and cozy.
My family and I have visited Rehoboth for the past 3 years, and this was our first stay on Hickman. The location can not be beat! It really is half a block from the boardwalk and beach. (sometimes you can't tell, but this one's for real!) The owner was lovely and called me the week before our visit to make sure I didn't need anything and to give me some tips on travel. I didn't expect this, and it was helpful. As for the unit, it was perfectly clean when we arrived and the AC was blasting- which was good as we were in the middle of a heat wave! The grounds are a bit tight with 4 units on one lot, but the owners keep them really well maintained- and we had a cute bunny keep us company all week! The unit is definitely small. My family of 4 fit quite nicely, but I wouldn't want any more bodies in there! The master bedroom literally fits the bed and nightstand. The living room/dining room is small, but there's enough room to sit and let the kids watch the tube in the mornings. The kitchen is also small, but updated nicely, as is the bathroom. This was a huge step up from our previous rental in Rehoboth- so we were impressed! The screened porch was nice and clean, and perhaps we would have used it more on a cooler week, but it was nice to leave our shoes out there and keep the sand out of the unit! The outdoor shower was really nice to have and we never seemed to run into any of the other renters there. The onsite parking is VERY tight, but also nice to have. You might need help getting in and out with a minivan or larger car. Overall, this is a very nice unit. It is small, as the owners basically put two small houses with 2 units each on one lot (clever of them!) It is really perfect for a small family who is not traveling with others and who wants their own place. Or, if you and your friends each want your own place but want to stay close, you could each rent a unit. Most of the other houses nearby were too big for us and out of our price range, but we didn't want to stay in a hotel or apartment building, so these units on Hickman kind of hit the sweet spot- location, privacy and price! We would definitely stay here again.

Having first visited Rehoboth Beach last year, staying in a B&B, my family wanted a more homelike accommodation. I discovered this listing, and it appeared to be everything we wanted. I contacted the owner and she promptly and professionally responded to my questions, and was forthright in discussing the basis of the negative review posted previously, completely resolving my concern. We booked our stay and were delighted that Cynthia phoned prior to our trip to make us aware of a major festival on route, that would cause us travel trouble - we had the ability to reroute and we so appreciated her thoughtfulness. Arriving at the address, everything was as described. The unit, the parking, everything is well marked. The grounds, gardens and buildings are so well maintained and we were happy to find Cynthia and Don on the property more than once, maintaining everything themselves, and available to answer any questions. They had even had ride tickets for Funland, left from a prior family, on the fridge for our daughter to use! The enclosed porch was fantastic, comfortable, private and just perfect, they have a "parking" spot for all your beach things, laundry line for suits and towels, and the outdoor shower was heaven! The unit was the perfect size for us, the kitchen was so efficient and I loved preparing our meals there - the appliances all top notch. We enjoyed a dvd or two on the tv as well. The A/C made it very comfortable, while the temps outside soared! The laundry room was terrific. Seriously, with being steps from the beach, a short walk to Rehoboth Avenue, we parked our car and there it sat all week. Cynthia and Don professionally, and lovingly care for their rentals - it was sparkling clean and beautifully decorated, the bathroom was gorgeous, the furniture comfortable and very nice, the kitchen had everything we needed - I cooked all but three meals. They even had a vase filled with beautiful flowers from the yard, to welcome us and a guide book of the area with coupons for us to use. We couldn't have had a better, more relaxing vacation and we are definitely returning and wouldn't dream of staying anywhere else - it was like using a friends home - actually, we now consider Cynthia and Don friends!

Owner response: Dear Dale and Kate-Thank you so much for your review! We really try to treat our guests the way we would like to be treated! Yes, I am picky about my cleaning. I have tried to hire someone a few summers back to help me out, but -sorry to say, it was not to my satisfaction. It was very nice meeting you and we hope to see you again. Thanks for taking such great care of our place. We are happy you all enjoyed yourselves!!
My family has been vacationing in Rehoboth for the past five years, we absolutely love it! However our experience with this property and the owners was just aweful. The description of the property is not consistent with its actual size - this place is TINY!!! The "master bedroom" barelly fits a queen size bed. The owners did not return our security deposit based on completely fabricated reasons. NO receipts were provided for alleged damage. Overall terrible experience, would not recommend this place!!!

Excellent location near beach
Excellent location near beach
We had a lovely week in our unit. The house was spotlessly clean (thank you Cynthia and Don) and was equipped with everything needed. We especially liked being able to walk only 1/2 half block to the beach and and to everywhere else in town. There is some very attractive gardening in front of the house and along the sides of the house. The air conditioning units functioned well and we found we didn't even need to use them all the time because of cross ventilation from the kitchen through the porch. The owners were very helpful when the refrigerator died; they brought over dry ice and replaced it with a new one the next day. It was clear that the owners were very attentive to details in maintaining the house. We did use the laundry room and I made use of the clothes lines with laundry pins to hang up my wet suit in the back of the house. There was one little problem I noticed: an damp (mildewy?) odor in some of the rooms, most noticeable the larger bedroom. Everything was so clean that I couldn't figure out where it was coming from. We would recommend Kilwin's for the best ice cream in town and the following restaurants: the Big Fish (thank you Cynthia and Don), MIXX, Lily Thai Cuisine, Summerhouse, Planet X Cafe, Jake's and Obie's for a quick lunch when you are at the beach.

Owner response: Dear Fran and Joe, Thanks so much for the great review and all the beautiful comments. I appreciate the facts you listed so others can see we are, "hands on," managers of our property whenever there is any kind of problem. We try to solve the problem asap, as we want our guests to enjoy their stay. As far as the mildew smell, it sometimes smells like that when it has rains a lot, and that is what happened before you came, and somewhat during your stay. Also, the house was built in the 1940's. Even though it is updated, the outer walls are still the original. Thanks again, and hope to see you again!!

Perfectly Located, Beautifully Maintained & Comfortably Furnished
This was our first visit to Rehoboth Beach and we thoroughly enjoyed it! This apartment is perfectly located 1/2 block from the beach, on the first floor of a 2-unit cottage which is nestled behind a similar house. This gave it a very private feeling & although there were 3 other families there, we rarely ran into anyone else! The property is beautifully maintained & comfortably furnished. Private parking, outdoor shower & clothesline are great conveniences. I enjoyed having my morning coffee and evening margarita on the screened in porch!! :) The galley kitchen, although small, (but, hey, you're on vacation! You're not supposed to be preparing gormet meals!!), certainly provides all the essentials. The beds are comfortable, closets are large & updated bathroom is very nice! We couldn't have been more pleased with the location. I loved being able to walk barefooted to the beach every morning for an quiet stroll. My kids (17 &12) enjoyed being just a few short blocks from the boardwalk & downtown, where they could get fries & ice cream at will! My husband was happy not having to go very far for ANYTHING! The owners were delightful. When Cynthia initially sent us the contract it arrived as a thick manilla envelope filled with brochures, maps & booklets with tons of info about the area!!! I totally appreciated this, as I am one to research a location before we get there. All in all, I cannot say enough good things about our stay at this lovely place...It truly felt as if we had the use of a friend's beach house for the week! Thank you, Cynthia & Don!

We Love the Apartment
We Love the Apartment
We have rented the apartment for the past eight Junes. It is charming, comfortable, well-equipped, beautifully landscaped, and close to the boardwalk/beach. There are laundry facilities and toys for the beach. It is quiet, but also convenient to boardwalk life, great restaurants & watering holes, and to Rehoboth Avenue. We love our visits, and will return again next year.

Owner response: Dear Larry-thanks for taking the time to write a review. We appreciate it. Before Don and I knew who wrote the review, and I read it to him, he stated, that has to be Larry with the statement about the watering holes. You are so funny! Yes, you have come so long now you have begun to feel like family! Here is to next year! Ha! Ha!

About the owner: My husband and I are Landlords that are close to our rental for any problems there may be. We love taking care of our so called, 'doll houses,' and very much enjoy meeting our guests while doing our lawn, or watering the plants. We have two grown beautiful daughters, and thank God for our blessings. We take pride in everything we do at our property. We hope you enjoy them--and if there is a problem we hope you do not hesitate to let us know. We work very hard from Spring to late Fall.Sometimes thru the winter. Some winters we try to live life a little by traveling. Usually cruising--it is our favorite new thing!!
Why the Owner Chose Rehoboth Beach:
We choose Rehoboth Beach because of it's small town qualities. There were no high rise buildings or major highways to worry about children being hurt while riding their bikes or walking. It is a place where you can leave your beach spot, go back to the house or to eat on the boardwalk and not have to worry about people taking your things.
The Unique Benefits at this Condo:
Our vacation home is the -past Rehoboth--it is a beach cottage from the late 1940's, but there is a new kitchen and bath. We also have just built a new screened in/windows porch are with two ceiling fans. We have clean and comfortable furniture and bedding. Our NEW screened in porch is the best for the early morning coffee and paper or late night drink. It is also a great place to serve dinner. Our canvas enclosed/private outside shower is the BEST--you must try an outside shower once in your life! It has hot and cold water. There is a free parking space in our backyard for you automobile. The best thing is you are SO CLOSE to the BEACH and the BOARDWALK--and only four blocks to the CENTER of town--COME join us---you won't be disappointed----
