My wife and I, plus two kids and my mother visited the area for the Mountain Harvest Festival at the end of Sept. I am somewhat familiar with the area and hoped to find a place up on one of the mesas on the north side of the valley. I could not have designed a better place to stay. First, the layout of the house worked great for our party - a bedroom each for adults and a bed to share for the little ones in the "office". Plus, there are many other couch/day beds/futons throughout the house that can accomodate quite a few others. Having only one bathroom did not hinder us in the least. The large kitchen and eating area with a huge south facing picture window was perfect. Second, the outside area was spectacular. Unending views - east to the mountains above Crested Butte, south across the valley toward the north rim of the Black Canyon, and west to the Uncompaghre Plateau. Apple trees everywhere - for eating and climbing. Wild turkey and deer joined us each morning for breakfast. Fun exploring from the top of the property following irrigation ditches as they flowed down the hill. Bonus - huge rope swing hanging from nearby cottonwood tree that my girls would not get off of. Easy access from the highway and less than a 10min drive to Paonia. Owner was easy to reach and answered all questions. Lots to do in the area, but this place is made for hanging out and relaxing. We'd go back tomorrow if we could.Recommended for: Age 55+, romantic getaway, sightseeing, families with young children, families with teenagers.

This house was perfect for our family and friends. Great views, deer and wild turkey all over the place. Our kids loved the apple trees and we ate our fair share also. Fun basket ball court out back also. We will be back for sure.Recommended for: Age 55+, adventure seekers, romantic getaway, sightseeing, families with young children, families with teenagers.
Owner response: It's been a great fall season at the Garvin Mesa Guest House, welcoming two families at a time to enjoy the color, the wildlife, the space. From apple picking to wine tasting, collecting turkey feathers, enjoying the Milky Way or the light of the moon, so many ways to relax and enjoy with your loved ones.

Our local guests and out of state guests were just estatic about their experience. Wow! What wonderful memories! The spacious, lovely home met all our needs. It was such an ideal venue for a spiritual retreat. The grounds were a springtime paradise with blooming fruit trees and the view of Mt. Lamborn and Landsend breathless. I heard people say over and over that they wish they could just stay forever or live there months at a time.Recommended for: Girls getaway, pet owners, age 55+, adventure seekers, romantic getaway, sightseeing, families with young children, families with teenagers, people with disabilities.
Owner response: The Guest House offers a unique getaway, a quiet time at the edge of the Rocky Mountains, perfect for personal refreshment, annual meetings, weekend or week long retreats from the bustle of our daily routine. Whether it's relaxation, renewal or a way to "refresh" and "reset" ~ the nurturing quality of the land, the comforts of the home are a gift to visitors.

About the owner: I enjoy this delightful home as my country vacation when I come to visit my sons and granddaughter in Colorado. Having raised my family and gardened here for 20 years, I thoroughly enjoy this quiet space away from lively San Francisco where I rent a 1 bdrm apartment I also call home.
Why the Owner Chose Paonia:
Garvin Mesa is one of the jewels of the North Fork Valley with its spectacular views, and the open space of nine acres means quiet and privacy. We were thrilled by the south facing sunny land to garden, the beauty, the elk, deer and wild turkey who make the place their home.
The Unique Benefits at this House:
Country living near theatre, dining, West Slope wineries.
