Hi Kathi: Sorry for not giving you feedback before now...I've been avoiding the phone! We love the cottage! The welcome gift is awesome...very generous--not skimpy at all--a bottle of wine and lots of goodies. Everything is very nice...clean, quality furnishings, well appointed. The cottage is beautiful (as you know!). We are sitting on the porch listening to the creek enjoying the peacefulness. Anyway, that's the update! We are having a great time...Asheville is great. We are having a fun, relaxing, active (hiking), culinary rewarding time!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

We had a wonderful stay at the cottage. The place is compact & provides everything one could need. Although there are neighbors near by, in the summer with all the greenery, you feel you are all alone in your own pretty space. The owner was very easy to work with & responded promptly to all questions. The property description was accurate, well maintained & clean. As noted it is 1/2 hour from Asheville but we were able to enjoy all Asheville had to offer easily . Enjoyed eating at The Admiral, the NC Arboretum, music on the green. Would certainly recommend this place to friends but do be aware that it is not handicapped accessible.Recommended for: Romantic getaway, age 55+, adventure seekers, sightseeing.

We spent several weeks at Dogwood during the summer months last year. The home is absolutely wonderful and the attention to detail for visitors is just amazing. I tell everyone that it was like staying in a five star hotel--the soaps, the towels, the linens, the dishes--everything we needed was provided and all of the items were first-class and special. Read what the owner has described--the setting is serene and picturesque. The deck and garden are lovely and there is no nicer backdrop than the western Carolina mountain view. The owner was extremely pleasant to deal with and was extraordinarily cooperative and responsive to any and all of our queries and requests. Staying at the cottage made us want to move to the Asheville area, and we are in the process of buying our own home there right now.Recommended for: Romantic getaway, age 55+, families with teenagers, adventure seekers, sightseeing.
Owner response: Thank you both for being very diligent while you stayed at Dogwood. You were excellent guests! We certainly appreciated having you! Sincerely, Peaceful Escapes

Owner info
Year Purchased: 2005
About the owner: My husband and I live in Dogwood Cottage half of the year, and enjoy traveling on our boat during the summer months. This part of our life takes us to the Pacific Northwest. We have always loved the sea, and have had many boats. We also love Asheville and the Great Smokey Mountains, and feel very fortunate we can spend time in each place. (If only Asheville had an ocean!) We have been diligent getting the perfect people in place, to make your stay pleasant. If something goes wrong, we are always available via telephone and email.
Why the Owner Chose Asheville:
This is our private home. We live here approximately 6 months a year. Our other home is on the West coast, so we rent the cottage while we are in the Pacific Northwest.
We have lived in Asheville since 2004. We built the cottage in 2005. We have always loved the charm the cottage offers and all the adventures near by. Asheville is a fabulous place named 'The Paris of the South'. It has been listed numerous times as one of the best top ten places to live and/or retire. We definitely agree!
The Unique Benefits at this Cottage:
We truly enjoy the deck and we spend many hours reading, napping, eating meals and entertaining there. It is wonderful for stargazing and even allows private sun bathing. The large creek across the road offers beautiful acoustics and it is very relaxing. You can sit under the covered parts if it is raining, and feel your presence in nature. Wildlife can easily be seen from the deck, and many birds visit.
While walking up to the front porch, all the window boxes are full of vividly colored flowers. While building we used an antique rounded top entry door, with a delightful doorknocker! Every time I see it I am charmed.
The wood stove is a delight, depending on the weather of course. It is a Jotul wood stove and has a glass front door, or a screen. If the screen is used, it is exactly like a fireplace. Of course there is central heat and air conditioning too. In the warmer months, we cap the stove off so birds cannot build nests inside the stove pipe. Because of that, depending when you visit, it may or may not be operational.
