Our Florida Story
We have been coming to Florida as a couple and now as a family for the past 20 years and are still as much in love with the place as we ever were. We are always excited to visit and love to plan each trip together and then really look forward to coming each time we visit. We have often brought friends and other family members with us and everyone has been taken by some or all of what Florida has to offer. There really is so much to do and see - all you have to do is ask and you can tap into our experience of everything that the local area has to offer.
We live in the UK in a village in rural Norfolk. We have always lived near the sea and have always enjoyed living by the coast and so Florida's Gulf Coast was the natural place for us to buy our holiday home. The weather is always fine, the local people are very friendly and we have all the advantages of staying in a home from home. We have got to know some of our neighbours along our street and have made friends and contacts in and around the area that are always on hand to offer help and assistance to both ourselves and our visiting guests.
Our property managers, Sue and Steve, live nearby and are on hand to give you both a friendly welcome and any help or advice you need to help you enjoy your stay.
Best of Both Worlds
Situated on the Gulf Coast we have found the area to be quieter and more relaxed than the more commercial East Coast and Orlando/Kissimee areas. Here on the Gulf we have the best of both worlds; there are great beaches nearby (Clearwater and Pine Island Beach being our favourites) and easy access to attractions with Busch Gardens and Adventure Island among our favourites.
The immediate area is well served by an amazing choice of excellant restaurants - you can eat at a different venue every night for 2 weeks and enjoy something quite different each time. Catches, Long Horn, Chilis, Red Lobster, Applebees, The Outback, Sams and Bonefish are among our favourites. For breakfast there is RAM's family Diner nearby, I-Hop on US 19 and of course Dennys. For snacks and treats there is Dairy Queen and for lunch Sub-Way and all of these places are within easy reach of our home
A great way to spend an evening is to have a BBQ at the house and eat outdoors on the pool deck - a great place to relax and unwind after a hard days shopping!
There is great shopping locally at Gulf View Mall and along US19. Travel a little further and Citrus Mall (25mins drive) and International Mall in Tampa (40mins drive) have all the shops you could wish for - as do 'The Shops at Wiregrass' - a more traditional high street type layout with numerous shops, restaurants and cafes - retail heaven!
For parkland walks and nature trails there is JB Starkey Wilderness Park - a great area for picnics and cycling too. Also there is the amazing Weeki Wachee Springs - a superb warm water natural spring that can be canoed along for its entire 6 mile length - great for viewing Florida in the raw and all its amazing wildlife including Manatee, birds, turtles etc.
Why not visit nearby Tarpon Springs where you can arrange boat/fishing trips and even snorkelling or indulge in fabulous traditional Greek pastries and strong coffees in authentic Greek cafes.
North on US19 lies Spring Hill a vibrant town where you can explore shops and visit Pine Island Beach ( a State Park also known as Alfred McKethan Park) with its sandy beaches and shady picnic areas. Here you will also find car parking, showers, toilets, outdoor bbq's and a small shop to buy drinks and snacks.
Further afield in Tampa you can visit museums (such as the amazing Museum of Science & Industry on East Fowler Avenue) , art galleries and of course the fabulous Florida Aquarium - a must see for children and adults alike.
A little further afield is the Salvador Dali museum and gallery in St Petersburg, a fascinating day out.
Or just ask us - we are more than happy to talk about all the attractions, facilities, beaches and leisure activities we have discovered on our many trips to this part of Florida!

Best of both worlds
Best of both worlds
The Villa was fantastic! Just as described in the property review, the owners made booking & arrangments very easy, the villa is well positioned & very peaceful, locals very friendly, Hudson was a very pleasant surprise with plenty of places to explore, with Busch Garden very close & the Disney parks 1 & 3/4 hours away we had the best of both worlds (You will need a hire car) We took advantage of the golf course & had a great day. We would certainly return when possible & recommend the villa to anybody looking for a relaxing holiday with the option to check out the Disney parks.

Owner response: Once again it is a real pleasure to get such strong feedback from our visitors - it really makes all the time and effort we have put into the house worthwhile. We are delighted that Kevin and his family enjoyed not only the villa but the area. We definately agree that the Hudson location gives the best of both worlds. Whilst the house is located in a quiet cul de sac (no outlet) you have a Publix supermarket, a diner, and two 24 hr pharmacies within walking distance. Looking slightly further afield there are great beaches, excellent shopping malls and great restaurants all with in a very short drive. And of course there is the golf course upon which the house sits - albeit 40 yards back from the fairway thereby ensuring you are not disturbed. As Kevin and his family found the course itself is very well laid out and very welcoming, and at £18 per round including an electric golf buggy extremely well priced. The staff that work in the club house are very friendly and equally importantly are well up to date on football results back here in England! Whilst Disney is one of Florida's more obvious attractions and definately worth seeing, most people who have stayed at the house seem to prefer the wonderful mixture of rides, animals and attractions that Busch Gardens has to offer, and at only 45 mins drive from the house it really is worth visiting. For a great night out you can visit the wonderful selection of bars, restaurants and night clubs in Ibor City which is a suburb part of Tampa. Also there are the local beeches in both Port Richey and New Port Richey as well as a little further south at Clearwater Beach - one of Florida's best - and only 45 minutes drive. Furthermore Caladessi Island and Pine Island are also very worthwhile. The beach at Hudson is fine for taking fishing or surfing trips but the beach itself is not really of a good enough standard to want to visit simply for swimming or sunbathing. For anyone wishing to book our villa we do have a wealth of local knowledge having stayed in the area many many times - all you need to do is ask!
THIS WAS A PERFECT SIZE VILLA FOR OUR TWO FAMILIES, WHEN WE ARRIVED AT THE VILLA , WE COULDNT BELIEVE HOW SPOTLESSLY CLEAN EVERYTHING WAS, AND THE ATTENTION TO DETAIL WAS VERY THOUGHTFUL. WE ONLY STAYED AT THE VILLA FOR 5 NIGHTS AS WE WHERE TRAVELLING AROUND BUT WISHED WE COULD HAVE STAYED LONGER, IT WAS SO PEACEFUL. OUR KIDS LOVED THE POOL AREA, WE HAD THE MASTER BEDROOM WITH ENSUITE AND IT WAS LOVELY, THE SURROUNDING AREA WAS GREAT FOR EXPLORING , WE VISITED PINE ISLAND BEACH AND SAW THE DOLPHINS SWIMMING IN THE SEA 20 YRDS AWAY FROM US! WE KAYAKED DOWN THE WEEKI WATCHEE RIVER AND AT NIGHT WE ATE AT THE ' INN ON THE GULF' 4 NIGHTS OUT OF THE 5 , WHERE THEY WERE VERY WELCOMING AND THE FOOD WAS GREAT. I WOULD DEFINATELY RECOMMEND THIS VILLA AND IF WE COME TO THIS AREA AGAIN WE WILL BE STAYING HERE!!

Owner response: We are delighted that Helen and her group have had such a great time staying not only in the Hudson area but also in our holiday home. We are so pleased that Helen commented upon the cleanliness and tidiness of our villa. We are very lucky to have Sue & Steve, our property managers - they really do a great job for us both before, during and after guests stay at the house. As for attractions and places to go we really do have a lot of local experience that we are happy to share with anyone looking to stay with us. Helen asked for some suggestions and we gave some and by the sounds of it not only did she take us up on them the whole group had a really great time. We are really lucky to have the beaches and facilities of Pine Island (also known as Alfred McKethan Park) so close to our villa. We have regularly seen dolphins swimming there and have always found the area clean, never too busy and always a great day out. As for how long you stay well thats up to you but we know what Helen means when she says she wished she could have stayed longer - we feel the same every time we visit! We hope to see you again sometime...
Excellent well equipped
Excellent well equipped
As a family we have been visiting Florida for many years and like to stay around New Port Richey as it is quiet, but still convenient for the beaches, Tampa attractions and only two hours easy drive from Orlando attractions. This year we booked again with Sue and James and their property at Fairway Oaks in Hudson for the month of August, from the beginning of the rental inquiry and the following rental procedure it was a pleasure dealing with them both again, they even juggled their own holiday to accommodate us and certainly when we return to Florida, the property would be our first choice. Hudson adds no extra travel time to Busch Gardens or Adventure Island in Tampa (1hr) or Orlando (2 hrs) and its attractions due to quieter roads, for Clearwater beach it was still around 1 hour but there are alternative beaches nearer. The local supermarkets Publix’s just down the road and Walmart on US19 means you don’t have to travel far to get all your grocery’s. The house, which is in a quiet residential area, is excellent and well equipped and we soon found our way around again with which switch did what (this is the usual game in the USA) and my son sorted out the remotes and TV’s. The aircon worked brilliantly and at no time did we feel the need for the additional fans, the additional utility room left the kitchen area uncluttered. The layout of the property is great as it allows a larger party with children some privacy with double bedrooms at each end of the property and the two bedrooms with two single beds in each in the centre with a bathroom between, ideal for the children. The large flat screen TV’s (one in each of the lounge areas) allows for children / adult divide, if so desired. With our Grandson the pool was used extensively whilst we were at the house and the bonus of the side door to the house and nearest toilet meant we did not have to use the patio doors which helped keep the house cool. The local agents for Sue and James are available if required and very friendly and helpful. Even the weather was brilliant this year and the rain only came when it didn't matter to us, so spoiled nothing. In summary the holiday was excellent and helped by the accommodation, thanks again Sue and James.

Owner response: It is always nice to receive a great review as we do try so hard to look after all of our guests. To receive such a good review from a returning guest is particularly pleasing. We do feel we have something special to offer our guests so we are delighted Nick and his family agree. There really is so much to do and see on this side of Florida and we do have a wealth of knowledge that we are more than happy to share with our guests to help them to get the maximum from their stay. We hope to see Nick and his family back again another year!

Owner response: Thanks again Kate. Great to have you back and delighted you all had such a good time! Thanks also for the tip on the Giraffe Ranch - will be including that in our agenda when we next visit. Hope to see you all back again soon!
We had a great time in the Hudson area and this home was a significant part of the experience. It is very comfortable and feels like home. The area is very nice, quiet, relaxed and felt very "safe". The home is well furnished and so close to grocery and other conveniences that it made for a relaxing time. Thanks again for letting us borrow your home. I highly recommend it.

Owner response: We are delighted that Theresa and her family enjoyed their stay in our Holiday Home. Yes the area is quiet and safe and this makes for a relaxing stay. The proximetry of all sorts of amenities means you don't have to travel too far afield to find what you need. We hope to welcome you back again next year!
This is an extremely well equipped, clean and very comfortable place to stay. The rear of the villa overlooks a golf course and is in a very quiet location. It is within walking distance of a supermarket which stays open until 9.00 pm, (Publix) and another, Winn Dixie, is just a short drive away for even more selection. Also within walking distance is Rams Family Diner for a huge choice of breakfasts and other meals throughout the day. Hudson itself is a very convenient location for many activities - beaches, shopping (three big shopping malls are within 45 minutes drive - we did most of our Christmas shopping at these) and there are so many restaurants you will have difficulty making a choice! However, should you decide to eat in and relax by the pool, the kitchen is very well equipped! Busch Gardens is also only 45 minutes away - we did the Christmas themed event one evening which had a magical feel to it but some of the popular roller coasters were closed. We have been to this part of Florida three times now and there is still so much to see and do - would love to visit again. The owners are the most helpful I have ever rented from - thank you Sue and James.

Owner response: We are delighted that our guests, Christine and her family, have enjoyed such a great time both in our home and in the surrounding area. There really is so much to do and to see - something for everyone to enjoy. Both James and I are more than happy to offer guidance on places to visit, things to do and places to eat. We have been to this part of Florida so many times over the years and are more than happy to help our guests get the most out of their stay. We hope to welcome Chriustine and her family back again sometime in the future!
Quiet comfortable family getaway
Quiet comfortable family getaway
We arrived late at night and were pleasantly surprised by the house. It's spacious, nicely decorated and very comfortable. The owners have put a lot of effort into making the home convenient for renters. Our large family had plenty of room to spread out (the split bedroom layout is great, lots of privacy in the master bedroom and room for the kids to be kids). Everyone LOVED the heated pool. It's located in a very quiet neighborhood, yet close to shopping and restaurants. It's not in the middle of a busy tourist area (like Clearwater beach), but we were well aware of that when we booked our stay. I'd recommend it for anyone looking to get away from it all. The owners were extremely professional and easy to deal with. We were 100% satisfied and would love to stay again sometime!

Owner response: Delighted that Amy and her family enjoyed their stay, enjoyed the area and everything that Hudson and this part of Florida has to offer. One of the major considerations when we bought the house was of course the location. We were looking for somewhere quiet, safe, near to beaches, shopping, great restaurants and a good quality golf course. After much consideration Hudson provided the best of all these requirements and Fairway Oaks has proved to be the just about the best location in Hudson we could have chosen. We are delighted that Amy and her family enjoyed their stay and hope that they will join our growing list of regular visitors that we welcome back each year.

Sue and James, thanks so much for everything. A perfect holiday at a perfect area and a perfect house. You are one of the reason why our summervacation was so perfect, not just by renting us your beautiful Villa, but also all the advices regarding everything, yes everything -what to do-where to eat-where to go and how get most out of these 3 weeks that we spent in your Villa in Hudson. Everything was exactly as descriped, by you (Sue and James) and your caretakers where so helpful regarding things we needed when we arrived. Hudson is a very safe and quiet town and we loved the stay there. Puplix supermarket just across the street. Short distances to Pine Island beach, saw dolphins everytime we went there and we could almost touch them. We went to Clearwater Beach, St.Pete Beach, Buch Gardens, Adventure Island, Orlando, Tampa and of course spent little to much time in shopping malls :). So as you can read we, family of four, where so pleased with everthing that we want to go again next year and can recomend this Villa to everyone, even my mother in law and that is a big thing. Again thanks so much Sue and James Your new friends in Iceland Gudmundur and family

Owner response: We are delighted that you all enjoyed your stay Gudmundur, and everything that Hudson and the surrounding area has to offer. Very different to Iceland I'm sure so we are especially delighted you have had such a great time! Not really sure there is much more we can add to your review save to say we are extremely grateful for all your kind comments. My wife, Sue handled most of your e-mails and, like me, she is very keen to make sure all our visitors have the best possible time when they stay and that they have all the necessary information on what to do and where to go. Pine Island is very special - amazing you should see so many dolphins there. We are lucky that it is so close to the house, for anyone looking for quiet seclusion on a fabulous beach then there is nowhere better. Clearwater Beach is great too but is nearly always busy. Genuinely pleased that you have all clearly had a thoroughly enjoyable stay - we hope to see you back again sometime soon?

The villa is great, lovely area, nice peaceful location lovely sitting out in the pool area overlooking the golf course. It is very well equipped with everything needed for your holiday. It has ample room for 8 people and is very well laid out. The owners are very friendly and helpful taking the time to ask about your stay etc. The villa is in a great location as it is peaceful yet close to shops/pharmacies/petrol station and also not too far away from Tampa (for Busch gardens) Clearwater and of course the lovely beach at pine island. We enjoyed our stay very much and would have no hesitation in highly recommending it to others. Thanks to both Sue and James.

Owner response: Many thanks to Kate and Helen and their group - we are delighted that you all enjoyed your stay and everything that Hudson and the surrounding area has to offer. Yes Pine Island is very special and we are lucky that it is so close to the house, for anyone looking for quiet seclusion on a fabulous beach then there is nowhere better. Clearwater Beach is great too but is always busy. We are also lucky to have the golf course behind the house. Not too close to be disturbed but near enough to give us wonderful views - its like having your own huge back garden without having to worry about cutting the lawn. When we are at the house it is lovely just to sit around the pool watching the golfers in the distance - very relaxing! We hope to see you back again sometime soon?
'Home from home' fully equipped and accurate description. Lovely location overlooking golf course, peaceful and relaxing. We are a family of four and the holiday was well suited to our needs. Clean & well maintained property, particularly enjoyed the indoor/outdoor retro sound system! We were welcomed at the beginning of our stay by the onsite caretaker and had contact details should the need arise. Ate out frequently at a range of restaurants and particularly liked 'Catches', 'Sam's' and a Greek night at Tarpon Springs. Visited Clearwater pier 60, Tampa aquarium & shopping malls, Busch Gardens & adventure Island water park and Howard park. Loved the whole experience, would (& have) recommend to friends, didn't want to come home!

Owner response: Delighted that Adrian and his family had such a wonderful stay in our holiday home - as well as thoroughly enjoying all that the surrounding area has to offer. Our house really is very well equipped - ready to move into with all the home comforts you could wish for. Our property managers, Sue & Steve, do a first class job of looking after the place and always make guests feel welcome. Glad to see that some of our recommendations for days out and dining out went down well too! There are great beaches, excellent shopping malls and great restaurants all with in a very short drive.
