- Minimum stay:N/A
- Internet:Yes
- Pets allowed:No
- Wheel chair accessible:Yes
Located just about 7 miles southwest of Walker. Vacation with your friends and family at our large lakehome, situated on a quiet bay of secluded Howard lake. Our home is large enough for multi familys with large bedrooms, 5 bathrooms and seperate apartment above the garage. Fish from the dock (or your boat) on this spring fed deep clear lake. Enjoy the sounds of the many loons that call Howard lake home. Paddle the canoe or paddle boat to explore all this secluded lake has to offer. There is no developed public access on this lake, so it is very quiet. With cabins on just a portion of the lake, you are sure to get the up north feel your after. We have ample parking for boats and campers, (we even have 2 seperate 30 amp brakers for a camper/motorhome), level lakelot with plenty of shade and beautiful crystal clear water, home to many species of fish and even more loons. This is a new home with approximatly 4,000 square feet and has something for everyone. Fishing is excellent, swimming is great and no matter what time of year, there is plenty to do. Winter is also a great time in this area with the great snowmobile trails, sledding hills, ice skating, skiing, snowshoeing, ice fishing and more.
You will find everything you could need in our home for a great vacation. High speed internet for the person who needs to check into work now and then, or just for the convenience of surfing the web.
The apartment above the garage is just having the finishing touches put on during the winter of 2012. It has a full kitchen, bathroom and flatscreen tv,along with 1 queen bed, two full/twin log bunk beds. You may rent the cabin alone or with the apartment added. I will not rent just the apartment alone.
The main greatroom has flatscreen tv. with Direct T.v. dvd and surround sound.

The house was beautiful and was surprisingly spacious even with our big party of 20 people. The lake was always calm and peaceful ... it was perfect for canoeing and relaxing while fishing. The sand beach was great for the kids sand castles and shallow water play. Overall the amenities were great - we had fun playing ping pong in the screened in open garage, playing badminton and the yard was perfect for bocce ball. The owner was a super nice guy, he seemed to really want to make sure we were having a great time, and then he went out of his way to mail me some items that I forgot. I would recommend this rental to anyone - we had a great time and will be back for sure!Recommended for: Romantic getaway, girls getaway, families with teenagers, age 55+, families with young children, people with disabilities.
Owner response: Pete, Thanks for the kind words. We enjoyed sharing our "piece of heaven" with your family and the care you gave it while you were there. We look forward to keeping in touch over the years to come.

We stayed here at Whispering Pines with our family and had the best time ever. The place was absolutely beautiful and had everything we needed and more. The pictures of the home were all great but to see everything in person was even better. We did not have to leave to find something to do. We played yard games every day, went swimming, fishing ,walking, relaxing outside, played games, cards and dice after dark and never got bored. The patio area was beautiful and the huge yard down to the lake was a beautiful site. We had so much room to accomodate everyone. The lake was clear and we had fun touring around the whole lake and seeing the beautiful sites. This was definately the nicest place we have ever rented and will plan on going back. I would recommend this beautiful home to everyone.Recommended for: Romantic getaway, girls getaway, adventure seekers, families with teenagers, tourists without a car, age 55+, sightseeing, families with young children, people with disabilities.

For the past 20 years a few of my siblings and our families spend a week vacationing together in northern Minnesota. This year we vacationed in the Walker area and stayed at this beautiful home located on Howard Lake. We enjoyed canoeing, fishing, tubing, table tennis in the garage, croquet in the yard and water volleyball. The weather was extremely hot so we appreciated being able to seek relief as needed in the air conditioned home. The amenities in the home are excellent, as there are multiple refrigerators, a large dining table in the kitchen that seats 10-12 easily, a pub table in the living area and bar stools to sit at the island in the kitchen. The cleanliness of the home is superb and bedding is like new. The landscape is flat, making it suitable for all ages to enjoy! The patio has a large table and very comfortable swivel/rocker chairs. The fire pit is well maintained to host campfires, make s’mores, visit and fight off a few mosquitoes. A bonus is the spacious garage that has epoxy flooring and a high ceiling (the table tennis is set up in the garage). Throughout the week we had the pleasure of listening and seeing many loons and we had multiple sightings of bald eagles. The lake is clean and there is minimal boat traffic. We really enjoyed our week and look forward to coming back next year.Recommended for: Romantic getaway, girls getaway, adventure seekers, families with teenagers, age 55+, families with young children.

Our family heads up to the Leech Lake/Walker area every year. This was the first year, however, that we stayed here on Howard Lake and look forward to renting this home again and again! The home is GORGEOUS and incredibly spacious (there are 14 of us and we had enough room to keep out of one anothers' hair). The lake is absolutely gorgeous and super quiet! There was NO boat traffic. The remote location and seclusion from the wind meant calm, glassy water just about every day we were there. The lake is excellent for fishing and swimming and the yard is HUGE so we were able to play all sorts of yard games and enjoy the fire pit. We're all relatively picky about cleanliness (and I'm terrified of spiders!!!) but we never once had to worry about this incredibly clean and well-maintained lake home...It was in immaculate condition upon arrival! I would recommend this place time and again to anyone looking to get away! It's close to both Walker and Akeley yet secluded enough to really help you escape and relax (and the Internet worked fantastic... a necessity these days). We truly enjoyed our stay and look forward to heading back again next year!Recommended for: Romantic getaway, girls getaway, adventure seekers, families with teenagers, age 55+, sightseeing, families with young children.

About the owner: My wife and I built this home 4 years ago as a dream getaway for our families. Of course with children and work, we can't be there all the time so we are renting it out on a limited bases. We are non smokers and do not allow pets on the property. We love to fish, hunt and spend time with our families. Being that this is our 'home away from home' you will find some of our grocery's in the cupboards, some cloths in the dressers but trust me, there is plenty of room for anything you bring. We want you to feel right at home and (other than our clothing) use our items if needed, all we ask is that you replace what you used. Sometimes a person forgets something or runs out of a certain thing they need, so we don't mind if you help yourself.
Why the Owner Chose Walker:
This area is so great for anything a person wants to do. We have the smaller lake living with close proximity to Leech Lake. You can be from our door to the landing on leech lake in 10 minutes.
The Unique Benefits at this Cabin:
Great fishing is right here. We have no close neighbors, so you have so much piece and quiet, you will be amazed! Howard lake has no maintained public access, so it is very quiet here. Deep clear water, lots of loons, just really quiet.
