This unique 1-bedroom rental is not an apartment, flat, or in-law unit, but a fully detached San Francisco home. It features soft and hardwood floors and is drenched in natural light. Front and rear decks provide a great place to enjoy breakfast or an evening glass of wine. A well-equipped kitchen makes it easy to prepare meals or reheat tasty leftovers from a night out. The bathroom features washer/dryer, stained glass windows and a clawfoot tub. The house is newly painted and furnished and comes with a queen-sized bed that comfortably sleeps two. An American Leather queen-sized sleeper couch in the living room pulls out to accommodate two additional guests. The house is located in Bernal Heights, a friendly and sunny neighborhood that has its own vibrant community. You'll be a block and a half north of Cortland Avenue – the heart of Bernal Heights – putting you in easy walking distance of great restaurants, bakeries, shops and the grocery store. Also a pleasant walk to the weekend Alemany Farmer's Market and Flea Market. Hike to the top of Bernal Hill to see panoramic views of the City or over to Glen Park Canyon to stretch your legs further. Stroll into the vibrant Mission district for tasty burritos, along artsy Valencia Street or over to Noe Valley for the 24th Street shops.
Public transportation is within blocks to take you into the theater district, downtown or the Castro - even to Berkeley and Oakland in the East Bay. By car, you can quickly get around the Bay Area with freeways 101 and 280 in close proximity. We're a quick zip to SFO airport.

Founded in 1943, Alemany is the oldest farmers' market in California. It's open every Saturday from 6am-2:30pm and if full of fresh, reasonably priced produce. On Sundays, the space transforms into a Flea Market that is open to the public from 7am-3pm.
They make a giant plate of spaghetti and meatballs taste fabulous! With glittery tables and a dj in the house on certain nights, this place is fun and great for kids if you come earlier in the evening. This place does get packed so be prepared.
Around since 1953, this is an ice cream store that often has crowds at its door, even in the coldest of SF weather. They're known for their classic favorites as well as some eclectic selections such as several varieties of coconut and ube (purple yam), as well as amazing sorbets that include pear and yuzu.
A neighborhood bar since 1977 that's been visited by the likes of Janis Joplin. Enjoy a game of pool by the bar or head to the outside garden to nestle into one of their luscious alcoves with a drink and good friends.
About the owner: We're a family of four, including a charming little girl and an incredibly active little boy. Michelle is an SF native, and Ryan has been excited to call SF his home since 2006. Given our backgrounds in design and environmental science, you'll see our passions infused in the house in many of the details from the amenities to the solar thermal heating system. This cottage was our home for 4 years, and we absolutely loved it. We hope that it will be a great home away from home for you, too!
Why the Owner Chose Bernal Heights: We love Bernal Heights. It has a great neighborhood feel while still being close to many busier areas of the city. We still live in the neighborhood and commute to work via public transportation. On weekends, we love being able to walk/take the bus almost anywhere. We also love how sunny Bernal is and the many great spots on Cortland Avenue. So easy to grab a great meal or find a last minute gift in the variety of shops. Plus, people are very friendly!
The Unique Benefits at this House: The cottage is very quiet and gets great natural light with windows and skylights throughout. It's an excellent home base for exploring the city and provides a welcome respite from all the hustle and bustle when you're ready to relax. The two decks provide a perfect spot to hang out on sunny days. With a full kitchen and a washer and dryer, you have everything you need in the house and within easy walking distance - shops, restaurants, the library and the grocery store. Great for extended stays. Also, there's a non-functioning hot tub in back that we hope to have up and running very shortly!
