Defining the Alaskan experience, A City View Bed & Breakfast Suite/Vacation Rental is situated on Government Hill, Anchorage's most historic and charming neighborhood. The neighborhood overlooks downtown proper one mile away. The suite is a very bright and cheerful daylight basement. It is a quick 10 minute walk to downtown proper and all of the activities and shopping the downtown area has to offer.

Several parks in the neighborhood offer views of downtown, Mt. McKinley, Mt. Susitna, Cook Inlet, Knik Arm and the Port of Anchorage. A five minute walk will get you to world class salmon fishing in Ship Creek during fishing season. We even have fishing poles and bicycles you can borrow!

Also a short ten minute walk is the Tony Knowles Coastal Trail where you can ski, bike or walk and enjoy the coastal beauty. The Alaska Center for the Performing Arts, The Egan and Dena'ina Convention Centers, and The Anchorage Museum of History and Art are just minutes away.

The Iditarod starts less than a mile from the house. You can enjoy the winter festivities and be home in no time when you're ready for some hot cocoa and a movie! Or, in the Summer, enjoy a cold beer or glass of wine in the backyard around the fire pit after a hard day of fishing, shopping or sightseeing. The house was built in 1960 and strongly withstood the 1964 Good Friday Earthquake. It has been continually and lovingly updated since we bought it in 1991 (We are the second owners).

Beautifully decorated, it was put together with a little bit of romance and a lot of comfort in mind. The 1300 square foot suite welcomes you with a bright and cheerful entry. Ample extras are intended to make your stay very special and memorable. Complimentary coffee, tea and hot cocoa are provided. A continental-style breakfast to enjoy at your leisure is also provided. Upon request, we will stock the unit with grocercies prior to your arrival.

It is intended to be a true home away from home, where you can enjoy a private experience in a perfect location on a beautiful property. Your hosts are immediately available should you need anything to make your stay more enjoyable.

We truly look forward to welcoming you as you plan your trip to Alaska. We are grateful that you are interested in staying at our vacation rental.

We had construction on our home and needed a place for our baby, dogs and family! This place is the greatest! Lots of room and amazing service! I would stay here a million times over again! We were so impressed with the quiet neighborhood and friendly peoole. Everyone waved and said hello. Our hostess was by far the friendliest person on earth, and beyond understanding of the situation! This place is spotless clean and roomier than any place you will ever stay in. This place is worth every little penny you will not be disappointed, it has a beautiful view of anchorage and sleeping lady moutain! You have to stay here!!!

On our 10th and final evening touring Alaska, our family of 4 rested our heads at A City View B&B. Laura is the most thoughtful and engaging host we have met through VRBO (users for years!). Her lovely suite has spacious accomodations, beautiful beddings, is tactfully decorated (well-traveled we note!) and is quiet and clean. Her garden adds that light touch we needed on our rainy visit! The location is great: just minutes from downtown and steps from the door are views of either downtown or the mountain ranges. We had a fabulous dinner at Ginger - creative seafood. Went for a nice long stroll along Tony Knowles Trail and ended our journey at the Anchorage Museum with lunch at Muse in the museum. No hesitation to fully endorse staying at A City View!

We arrived from the airport in the wee hours of the morning and were welcomed by a fresh homemade pie! There were five of us and breakfast foods were provided for us. The place was clean and inviting, and the owners were helpful. We will go back again.

A great find for our Alaska trip. The property was clean and well maintained. Well stocked breakfast foods and the homemade goodies were a nice welcome after a long day of flying. Beds were very comfortable. The location was in a nice neighborhood with a quick car trip to downtown and easy to navigate streets. Laura was very helpful in answering our questions and making suggestions. Certainly would recommend the Native Heritage Museum - with live performances and presentations by Alaskans. The Anchorage Museum also has a fabulous Smithsonian display of Alaskan eskimo cultures and a nice restaurant. Positively would recommend this VRBO/B&B.

My two friends and I, plus my little dog, arrived at A City View rental suite on June 30 and stayed until July 3. The listing description & photos are accurate - the suite was clean and well-appointed. A big fridge, gas stove, separate dining room, living room with huge comfy couches and a good TV. Two bedrooms with big comfortable beds, dressers, lots of closet space. Lots of nice personal touches, artwork, cosy throws and pillows. A beautiful side yard, very quiet and private. I would stay again and recommend highly to anyone else. The owner Laura was welcoming and gracious, and gave us good tips for shopping and restaurants. In one direction, a nice little park for dog walking with a beautiful view over to the mountain ranges and Sleeping Lady and in the other, a view overlooking the city. Easy to find, and very easy to navigate around the City. Close to the Zoo, neighbourhood restaurants, also close to downtown and tourist attractions. Recommend Glacier Brewhouse for great seafood.

Owner response: Thank you so much Leslie. It was an absolute pleasure having you and your friends here, including your charming dog. I hope to welcome you back next time you are in Anchorage.

My wife, mother and I traveled to Anchorage for one week to watch the ECHL Conference Finals (Go Wranglers!!!) and visit some trophy shops on business matters. Arriving close to midnight and having only been to Anchorage once before, the house was easy to find and Laura left the lights on for us. The place is beautifully decorated and had a very warm and inviting feel. Although it is a basement rental (if you have mobility issues, be aware the stairway has 10 steps) we found it to be well lit as every room has windows. It was clean and quiet, the beds were comfortable, and the kitchen had everything we needed. Laura provided the continental breakfast including 3 types of cereal, milk, fruit, apple juice, coffee, creamer and cinnamon bread and waffles. Since we were staying a week we hit the supermarket so we could make lunches and dinners as well. Laura checked with us often to make sure everything was to our liking, offered to hold our luggage into the evening as we had a late departure, and even called to let us know when the local moose was roaming the neighborhood! Having stayed in VRBO's in Hawaii and Rome we found this home and Laura's hospitality to be nothing short of "Top Notch". If I return to Anchorage I would absolutely stay here again. Do yourself a favor, ditch the hotels and stay here too!

This place is amazing place to stay, we can't even begin to list all the wonderful things our hostess Laura accommodated us with during our stay. The facility is very beautifully decorated and has a very welcoming feel. The views are amazing of the city, the Mt. Range, and the bay from this B&B! The location is easy accessible to everything in Anchorage. Great family orientated neighborhood. This place is the only place to stay when visiting Anchorage! Laura was the best, I got to the airport and realized I had forgotten my glasses. I called her and she brought them to me at the airport before my flight took off! Thank you so much! The continental breakfast every morning and the fresh baked banana bread was great too! We will be returning for a second trip in June and we can't wait! This place is wonderful. The photos of this place are right on too in the listing no surprises!

Anchorage, Alaska is an amazing place. 5 friends travelled from Canada to call Anchorage home for 10 days, and enjoy the winter wonderland. Despite spending the majority of our days outdoors, Laura provided us with unbeatable accommodations. Breakfast every morning, fresh baked banana bread, and a spotless kitchen every evening on our return. We are already planning our return trip next year, and wouldn't stay anywhere else! Two thumbs up!

I stayed at the City View for three nights while my family was here for my daughters wedding. It was a wonderful stay. I live just down the street and wanted to stay close to my family. I had two sisters and my brother in town for the wedding. I had them stay at my house and i rented the b@b. The rooms were so well decorated and i never slept so well. Dining room was beautiful. Very quiet. Very peaceful. Laura, the owner, did an amazing job making this place very special. It felt just magical. I was just looking for a place to sleep, but found much more. I hope others can experience what is here. This was very nice.

About the owner: Laura is a lifelong Alaskan. Her adventure-seeking family moved here from Southern Californiaha when she was just one year old in 1965. Her family loves the Alaskan outdoors and all of the activities and majestic beauty it offers. Laura is an artist. Some of her work hangs in the B&B, and special aritistic touches abound outside on the decks and in the fenced yard. If you want shopping, dining, entertainment, sightseeing, day trip, or fishing advice, we're here to help! In April of 2011, her family traveled to France and Italy for three weeks and absolutely fell in love with the people, culture, scenery, and history.
