- The Leelanau Peninsula has about 25 wineries and Mission Peninsula offers close to 20. This area is definitely known for the quality of the grapes producing award winning wines. Micro breweries have also blossomed- for the beer lovers. Not to miss is a day trip around Leelanau County following M-22 (which we are located on) thru Suttons Bay - north to Northport and around the peninsula to the Sleeping Bear National Park. All along the shore are wonderful beaches and hiking trails- make sure to visit historical Fishtown located in Leland. Make a stop in Glen Arbor as you're getting closer to Empire. These small Michigan towns each have a unique feel to them which offers a real Northern Michigan experience. Another day trip is to take M22 south toward Traverse City and follow US31 north - stop at Elk Rapids, continue north to Charlevoix and lastly to Petoskey. If you continue past Petoskey on US31 north you're heading to the Mackinac Bridge which is site to see and to drive over to the Upper Peninsula . A full day trip from our place is to head directly to Mackinac City - take the ferry over to Mackinac Island. A step back in time with no cars- only walking, bikes and horse drawn carriages for transportation. Rent a bike and travel around the island for a beautiful site seeing trip. Dress up and visit the Grand Hotel for a real treat. Once you're here we are very happy to answer questions and give you other ideas of things to do. During the summer it seems that every weekend another town has a festival going- much art, music and wine tasting!!...moreless

Many thanks to Nancy and Victor for helping to make our stay at the Restful Nest just that, restful. We thoroughly enjoyed our day trip around the Leelanau peninsula. Each town has it's own personality, but we especially enjoyed Leland where we ate lunch overlooking the dam in Fishtown. Our evening in front of the fire down by the bay was extremely nice. Nancy and Victor definitely made us feel at home and their property is lovely, clean and comfortable. There were so many other things that we wanted to see and do, but we ran out of time. I guess that means that we will have to make another trip up north. Hopefully the Restful Nest will be available!

Best Vacation Ever!!!
Best Vacation Ever!!!
We had the best vacation!! The apartment cottage is adorable, clean, comfortable and fun. Cottage comfortably sleeps 2 adults and 2 children. The location is great. Easy to get to Traverse City and Suttons Bay (lots of delicious restaurants like Poppycock, Amical and Martha's Leelanau Table). We brought our bikes, kayak & jet ski and used all of them almost every day! The trail head for the Leelanau Penninsula segment of the bike trail is only a couple of miles away -- it's a beautiful 17 mile bike ride into Traverse City and people of all ages were doing the ride. We put our jet ski in the bay about 2 miles away at the free public launch and kept it moored at the cottage, so it was easy to use it every day in the bay! We kept the kayak on the beach at the cottage and used it almost every day too. There's also a grill on the deck and a firepit for S'Mores. Can't ask for much more. Highly recommend to my friends/relatives and will definitely come back.

I love Michigan
I love Michigan
This "Restful Nest" couldn't have fit our needs better. Loved everything about the rental, it's even a little nicer than then photos reveal. We really felt at home from the first day to the last. Victor and Nancy are a wonderful couple to rent from. Friendly, helpful, but get it that you're on vacation and need "your" space. It was just what we were looking for for a week with our daughter and grandchildren. Located near all the things we like to do on vacation, go to the beach, shop, eat out at interesting restuarants, etc. We would definitely go back.

Wonderful Honeymoon Retreat
Wonderful Honeymoon Retreat
My wife and I rented "Restful Nest" for our honeymoon and our stay there was everything we hoped for. The rooms were cozy, clean, and very relaxing. The kitchen had everything we needed to cook dinner on the nights we wanted to stay in and it's close enough Traverse City and all the area attractions to be a perfect base for a day out or to run into town for a nice dinner. The owners were very kind and helpful. We highly recommend this property!

My husband and I went to Traverse City for a spring getaway. We found this wonderful property on VRBO. Unfortunately, they were not open for the full week, so we stayed for four days, and it was a terrfic four days. Everything you need is in this adorable carriage house, plus you get the sublime view of the bay! It was SO relaxing, I would definately recommend this property!

We chose this for a quiet New Year's Eve getaway. It is adorable and very comfy cozy with a nice view of the lake. It is spotlessly clean, something I always appreciate. We had a great time being lazy, but we also enjoyed getting out for some snowshoeing and sledding. The location is about a 10 minute drive from downtown Traverse City, which was just fine for us. I would definitely rent this place again and will recommend it to friends.

Peaceful, relaxing beach house
Peaceful, relaxing beach house
After spending a week in this adorable nest above the garage of the owners home I would highly recommend the setting, the house and the owners to anyone. The beach house was decorated very appropriately and everything was neat, clean and in great condition. My husband and I spent a week there and would gladly return in the future. The owners are great people, very friendly and helpful and interested in our comfort. Thank you for a great stay!!

Great Summer Stay!
Great Summer Stay!
We are so glad we found your place for our trip to Cherry Fest this year! Wanted something that felt like a beach cottage on the water and this was exactly what we found with your place! Cottage had great detail in construction, loved the decor & very clean and spacious! Washer/Dryer would have been a great bonus-but we had family in the area for that! Thanks again for sharing your place with us!

Owner response: So happy that you found us and enjoyed your stay- come back next time you are here in Traverse City. Sorry that we had no room for a washer dryer. We do have a very convenient laundry mat right off the road on the way toward Traverse City- Cherry Fest is such a great time to be here- thanks for your positive review- Hope to see you again.
Great vacation in Traverse City
Great vacation in Traverse City
We have been traveling to Traverse City for several years staying in hotels. We were very please with the "cottage", it was actually a little bigger than we anticipated. There was plenty of room for a double air matress. It was decorated so cute with everything we needed, even a gas grill on the deck!

About the owner: We are an active working couple who moved into what was our Traverse City cottage 6 years ago. That is when we built the carriage house with the apartment above so there would be room for our children to come visit. We have 2 dogs on site- Parker- the old guy- a 12 year old Irish Setter and Scrappy, our 4 yr old rescue Australian Sheperd mutt. We are avid golfers, love wine ,art and music- which is why we found this to be an area perfect for us. It's amazing how many people we have met since living here who are so much like ourselves. We are husband and wife home builder/remodelers- Grand Bay Building and Remodeling. We moved our business Up North from the Pinckney Chain of Lakes Area of Livingston County. We wanted to be somewhere our children and future grandchildren would loved to come and visit. Traverse City and Leelanau County have far surpassed our expectations. We absolutely love the activity and social aspects of the area. If you are looking for things to do and see- we can be very helpful. We totally understand couples who are looking to move to the area. That's why we love the business that we're in- we can make the dream happen for others like we did for ourselves!
Why the Owner Chose Traverse City:
We used to come up north with our oldest son's travel soccer team for tournaments. Over a five year span, the entire family looked forward to our week here in August. We decided to look for a cottage that we could eventually move to when all of the kids were out of high school. We checked out the entire area over the years- we knew that we needed parking- so some of those small lots right on a road were not for us. We also knew we would be working and needed to be close to town for meetings, supplies etc. Being just north of Traverse City allows us to miss the summer traffic from festivals and hotels on a daily basis. We are within 10 minutes of the action when we want it and we can enjoy wonderful Leelanau County every day. Our place is located down at the water on a 1 acre site. M-22 is a wonderful access road to everything but we have lots of privacy and parking- exactly what fit our needs. This area offers much in the way of entertainment.- The Dennos Museum always offers a wonderful exhibit and music performances in the Milliken Auditorium. There are many art galleries to showcase the talent here in Northern Michigan. Two small theatres: The State Theater downton Traverse City and The Bay in Suttons Bay are restored wonderful old theaters featuring great movies. Interlochen for the Performing Arts is a venue for wonderful music performances. Traverse City has The Old Town Playhouse for community theater. The list goes on- as members of the 2 local Chamber of Commerces we have a really good source of knowledge for what's happening.
The Unique Benefits at this Apartment:
Vic and the dogs fish the Bay for salmon and lake trout so our boat is set with downriggers. We can boat to dinner from our dock-north to Omena Point and Suttons Bay or south to Harbor 22. This is why we love West Bay- there are great places to travel to by boat . Sometimes we'll take a bottle of wine out on the boat to the island and watch the sun set and the moon rise. During Cherry Fest, we motor down by West End Beach and listen to music from the Cherry Festival Stage. We can anchor by the Holiday Inn on Friday nights and relax to music. Nothing beats watching the Air Show and fireworks from the water. Being located between Suttons Bay and TC has been perfect for us. Both have wonderful downtowns and restaurants. Festivals are a huge thing in this area and we're located close to all of them. We are near the trails for biking, hiking and cross country skiing. We happen to love our closest golf course- The Leelanau Club. The best thing about this place- you can hear the nosies of the bay- water lapping or waves crashing, seagulls & ducks, wooshing as swans lift off. The bay calms you down and brings you back to nature. We think it's a wonderful place and would really miss it.
