Architect's Dublin 4 Apartment

Sandymount is one of Dublin 4’s prettiest urban villages, and this exceptional apartment is in one of Sandymount’s prettiest houses - the former carriage house of Sandymount Castle. This light-filled flat was renovated to the highest standards by its architect owner in 2007, and its stylish interior has featured in a leading Irish magazine.
The location is superb: just 2 miles/3.3 km (and three train stops) from Trinity College, the National Gallery, National Museum and the city’s best shopping area, Sandymount is one of Dublin's prime residential areas, with a wealth of restaurants, cafes, shops and bars all located around a small green park which forms the heart of this buzzing village - and the view from this first floor (US second) apartment’s principal windows. A sandy beach on the edge of Dublin Bay is just a five minute walk away, and an evening stroll along the promenade is the perfect antidote to a hard day’s sight-seeing. Aviva Stadium, The RDS and the Grand Canal Theatre are all within easy walking distance through Dublin 4’s leafy avenues. Excellent train and bus routes link Sandymount to the city centre and to the coastal towns of Blackrock, Dun Laoghaire, Dalkey and Killiney to the south, and it’s just 20 minutes by coach from Dublin Airport.
It really is the perfect base for a visit to Dublin!
The apartment has been designed to make the most of its excellent location, and has been finished in a clean contemporary style, with oak floors throughout, and the best of modern kitchen and bathroom fittings. An individual entrance door from a pretty garden, with private parking, leads to a small entryway with laundry room off, and an oak staircase leads up to the bright, spacious accommodation, comprising a large comfortable living room, a fully equipped contemporary kitchen, a master bedroom with ensuite shower room, a single bedroom and a second shower room, all with wonderful high ceilings and leafy views through large windows with customised shutters. Furniture is stylish and comfortable, and the walls are lined with art from the owner’s collection. Top quality linens complete this perfect picture, allowing guests to enjoy five-star hotel standards at a fraction of the price!

We found Sandymount the perfect location for us. The owner, Clodagh, was a pleasure to deal with. Before our arrival, I asked questions about airport transportation, local public transit and she was very helpful. The location of Sandymount is only about 10 minutes from City center and the nearest bus stop is just across the Green, perhaps 200 yards. As an aside, we found the app, Dublin Bus-ster very helpful for nearest bus stop and next arriving bus. If you're not in the mood to travel to City Center, the Green on Sandymount has everything you need within steps of the front door. Lovely little deli/bakery where were able to get stuff for breakfast and a picnic on the Green one day. Mira Mira for gifts, three pubs, Brownes for nice food. The local bike shop will rent bikes. Like I said, everything withing steps of the front door. We loved the comfort of the flat. The bed was very comfortable, which is something that can be hit and miss with private rentals. The kitchen was nicely equipped with the ability to make a cup of coffee or tea the first morning without having to leave the flat. The flat has lovely morning light, the bathrooms are comfortable and nicely appointed. We were able to do a 9 day trip with no checked bags because the flat has a washer and dryer so we ran a load of laundry halfway through the trip. It's worth mentioning that the flat is up a flight of stairs which didn't present a problem for us, but people with limited mobility may or may not be able to navigate the entry stairs. The owner provides wi-fi and clear instructions for the basic services (heat, hot water, wi-fi). I'm putting Clodagh's place in my favorites and we look forward to our next trip to Dublin and Sandymount.Recommended for: Tourists without a car, girls getaway, romantic getaway.

Spent just over a month in is charming flat while looking for a place to live in Dublin! All amentities available with wonderful special touches!! Located about 40 minutes walk from central Dublin, it is on a beautiful green with lots of great restaurants and shops right outside the door. Two grocery stores within 5 minutes walk, as well as a butchery and beer/wine shop! Mulligans pub is a must, with great staff and good bar food. Also, there is a YMCA close by that you can pay as you go to work off those Guiness pounds! This is a great flat in a great location and the owner was very available to answer questions and provide information. Would recommend this flat for short or long stays.Recommended for: Tourists without a car, romantic getaway.

We echo everything already posted in earlier reviews, but specifically . . . yes, "location." The idyllic village of Sandymount was its own little world, easily accessible by bus, DART, or foot to city center. In addition, the AeroBus route (which runs 24/7) is minutes from the apartment. Cab service from city center was also convenient and reasonable—10-11 Euros. We were close to but not in the midst of the bustling city of Dublin--and bustling it was during the St. Patrick's week festivities. It was delightful to come back to Sandymount after a day in Dublin or Howth; we often were gone all day, knowing that we had such a comfortable and cozy place to return. The convenience of a local grocery, the Butler's Pantry (excellent quality “take away” meals), and even a fish and chips shop, was much appreciated on those days when we were just too tired (or cold) to leave the apartment again after a day roaming the city. More like a home than a rental, we just wished we could have stayed longer. Clodagh was kind to check on us even though she was out of town. Her friend Joan was most helpful upon arrival and was available had we needed anything--which we didn't since the apartment is well-stocked and of the highest quality. A perfect week in a perfect spot.Recommended for: Tourists without a car, girls getaway, sightseeing, age 55+.

We loved our stay at this apartment - it was beautifully decorated and comfortable with all the amenities we needed. We needed coaching on the utilities but everything worked beautifully. We were happy to find the train to the city center was convenient and quick. The neighborhood at night was quiet but with plenty of restaurants and a decent grocery, bakery, video store and so on. We had a lovely stroll on the strand one night. All in all a pleasant stay that exceeded our expectations!Recommended for: Tourists without a car, girls getaway, romantic getaway, sightseeing, age 55+.

We just got back from two weeks at Sandymount. We miss it so much! The place was beautiful. If only we could decorate our place as well as the owner decorated Sandymount. We felt like we were in a small Irish village, yet we were a 20 minute walk into City Centre or a short bus/train ride. Most days we would alternate between walks, the bus, or the train into the Trinity College area and north of the river. The apartment looks out onto a small grassy park. This is the center of this little town. All around the park are restaurants and stores, We ate breckfasts at great places every morning. We got a lot of take out food at the groumet, "Butler's Pantry" when we didn't want to cook. You must buy their choclate chip cookies. they are the best! We also took many walks along the ocean, which is just several blocks away. Prior to vacationing in Ireland, we thought that we would want to be in the center of town, at Trinity College. We are so glad we didn't make that mistake! We had the peace and quiet of this apartment, yet the easy access into the city. We truly had "the best of both worlds." If only we could buy Sandymount. Well, you can't blame us for dreaming! Don't miss out on this wonderful opportunity.Recommended for: Tourists without a car, families with young children, families with teenagers, girls getaway, romantic getaway, sightseeing, age 55+.

Clodagh’s apartment overlooking Sandymount Green is an absolute delight and exceeded all our expectations. The apartment is fully renovated with loads of style and comfort in equal measure. Even on a grey Dublin day the apartment is light and airy with a sense of space. The separate utility room with washing and drying facilities that are efficient and easy to use is a real plus for travelers! The kitchen is fully equipped, so you can cook up a storm if you like. If not, there is a great selection of moderately-priced eaterys at your doorstep. We became regulars at "Brown’s" and "Dunne and Crescenzi’s" during our week’s stay! We arrived on Bloomsday, a celebration of Dublin’s most famous writer, James Joyce, and were treated to a festival in the Park on Saturday and a Kid’s carnival on Sunday. The vibrancy and energy of the days is complemented by the peaceful quiet of the evenings, ensuring a good night’s sleep, ready for more sightseeing the next day! Many sights, including Trinity College, are within 30 min walking distance, or a short bus or train trip. Thanks Clodagh for answering all our questions promptly and efficiently and convincing us to stay at Sandymount!Recommended for: Tourists without a car, sightseeing, age 55+.
