Casa Tranquilo is a beautiful custom home with ocean views and breezes, along with a pool on a half acre property .This house has been rented to long term renters since July 2009 (See Owner Profile). Ideally we are always looking for long term renters (6 months or more preferred). Currently rented until May 2014.
Each of the three bedroom and the main living space (living room, kitchen, dining room) feasts on the amazing ocean view and its breezes, while the rest of the house has all the amenities to make for a comfortable place to live while making Costa Rica your home for awhile. All windows and sliders have screens and all are beautifully secured with decorative wrought iron. If the ocean breezes aren't enough for you, each room comes equipped with AC.
Special Note: Besides all the great amenities that this house offers it also offers something that you can not see and that is how well built and how well this house functions. We truly won the lottery when we chose the contractor that built this house for us. One of its many hidden jewels, that we quickly appreciated, is the large underground backup extra water tank that feeds water to the house on demand. This house never goes without city water, which unfortunately can be a problem in Costa Rica. Truly a very comfortable house.

Just minutes by foot to the beach and village of Esterillos Oeste, you will enjoy great year around surf, giant tide pools, and lush vegetation. Wildlife is abundant in the area with White Face Monkeys, Scarlet Macaws, Green Parrots, Coatimundis, Poison Dart Frogs, Morpho Butterflies, Iguanas, a Turtle Preserve, and much more. You can literally walk for miles in both directions on the beach and most days not run into a single soul and have this amazing nature all to yourself.
Located in the hills of this fishing village, where you can daily witness fishermen taking their boats from the sand through the surf, the village of Esterillos Oeste offers beachfront bar/restaurants, 'gourmet' and ‘typical’ restaurants, a little surf shop with board rentals and lessons, beachside chaise lounge chairs/umbrella rentals, and three small grocery stores.
If you'd like to spice things up or in need of a little more action, Playa Jaco being just 20 minutes north of Casa Tranquilo is known as the Las Vegas of Costa Rica, which offers casinos, fine dining, sushi restaurants, night clubs, and jazz bars. Spa treatments and souvenir shopping are also highly sought out activities in Playa Jaco as well. Or head south 45 minutes to Manual Antonio and the its Nature Preserve and more.
You can also enjoy the many activities and tours that Costa Rica and the area have to offer, such as: Canopy/Zipline Tours, Horseback Riding, Monkey Tours, Coffee Plantation Tours, Volcano Tours, Sportfishing, Kayaking, Golfing, Waterfall Tours, ATV Tours, White Water Rafting, and much more!
GETTING THERE: Upon arrival to the San Jose airport (SJO), there is a scenic 1 ½ hour drive to Esterillos Oeste. Make sure you stop at the Tarcoles River and check out the crocodiles as you make your way to Casa Tranquilo.
We can help arrange airport transfers to and from Casa Tranquilo if you prefer. Or you can reserve a car at the San Jose airport from any of the major car rental agencies and drive to the coast. Detailed directions are emailed once a reservation is confirmed. Also note that there are car rental agencies in Playa Jaco that offer airport pick up and drop off services as well. Restrictions may apply.

A really great place to stay.... incredibly beautiful with everything you could possibly need....views over the ocean are truly stunning from every aspect of the back garden, most of the rooms in the house and from the private infinity pool where you can gaze out to the ocean. The highlight for us has been watching the whales, from the ocean view patio, when they migrate! The landlords are very caring too and nothing is too much trouble to make it a perfect stay - what more could you possibly want?! There are two cabinas down the hill at the bottom of the long driveway and all we can see are the tops of their roofs amongst the tropical gardens. Due to the layout of the property, Casa Tranquilo is extremely quiet. You will fall asleep to the sounds of the ocean and wake up in the morning to the sounds of the jungle! It is also very close to the beach and other amenities. We have been very happy here and will be sorry to leave. We would highly recommend Casa Tranquilo. It is a truly unique place and every day is like living in paradise amongst the beautiful lush gardens.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, sightseeing, romantic getaway, age 55+, tourists without a car, adventure seekers.

About the owner: In 2003 we traveled to Costa Rica with our daughters who were then 12 and 9. We all fell in love with Costa Rica, especially Esterillos Oeste, so we boldly decided to take a life adventure and moved to CR in July of 2004. We purchased our property, built our house and two vacation studios, and lived there full time until 2009. In July 2009 we returned to California for our daughters' further educational needs. Since then the house has been rented to long term renters. The current renters departure date is May 31, 2013. Currently our property manager is off-site and lives nearby in Esterillos Oeste.
Why the Owner Chose Esterillos Oeste:
One day while living in Costa Rica we were asking each other what we loved about living here. There were many great answers, but the one from our youngest, who was then 12, was the best. She said, 'I love that every day brings a new surprise from nature; you just never know what you are going to see!' So true is that statement; from a crocodile trying to cross the road during a nightly storm, or a tiny fingernail sized baby gecko being born, or the Scarlett Macaws flying overhead on their daily route from almond tree to almond tree. The nature here never stopped amazing and thrilling us. It's always an adventure! And being beach people, who surf, boogie board, and shell hunt , we love the beach of Esterillos Oeste with its tree lined border that houses white faced monkeys and so much more. Last, but not least, the locals (ticos and gringos) that call this place home and those passing through while on vacation make Esterillos Oeste a truly special place.
The Unique Benefits at this House:
Besides the views, the pool, the house's amenities, the ease to the beach and town, the cool people (ticos and gringos), the great surf, and the abundant wildlife, you are going to love that this property houses a LARGE back up water tank with a pressure pump so that you will never go without water and an all around well constructed house. Basically you will be comfortable and your needs will be met with this house.
