Near the quiet southern shore of the sublimely beautiful Upper Saranac Lake lies this enchanting and peaceful year round retreat for those who appreciate charm and serenity. This home is situated in a semi-private neighborhood and offers 1 King bed, 1 Queen bed and 1 Twin bed with 3 baths and is approximately 1800 sq feet on 5 park like acres. Artists and writers flow with effortless inspiration here. And so, it seems, does everyone else. A 'Fairytale like Healing Woods” it has commonly been described as...
There is an elegant, fully equipped kitchen, outdoor screened dining porch, sundeck, sunroom, perennial gardens & blueberries in August. There is an expansive lawn for games. Just about all linens, towels, pillows, and blankets are provided, along with books, videos and games in the library. Just bring your personal BEACH towels. There are 2 kayaks (with 2 adult and 2 youth life vests) available for your enjoyment. You may want to bring personal safety vests for your child(ren) for best fit, if you have.
The lovely semi-private shared beach (Upper Saranac Lake) is a 5-7 minute park- like stroll from the home. It offers a safety buffer zone for those with younger children. With a grass lawn, the beach is sandy with a gentle, gradual drop-off. There are also many public beaches and boat launches to chose from nearby.
The High Peaks Wilderness area, directly across our drive, offers you hiking, biking on endless trails and canoe access to the Stoney Creek Ponds and the Racquette River. The popular Ampersand Trail is minutes up the road, as well as one of our favorites, the Deer Pond trail, a gentle hike for children.
Golfers will love the Saranac Inn Golf Club, ten minutes up the road founded at the turn of the century and designed by Scottish pro and architect, Seymour Dunn; this 18 hole course was designed using the natural terrain to provide a great golfing experience with lovely mountain views.
Adventurers can traverse 30 miles of waterways that connect the lakes Oseetah, Kiwassa, Lower and Middle Saranac Lakes. Travel through the lock system which raises and lowers your watercraft to the level of the connecting lake. And check out the 25,000 acre St. Regis Wilderness canoe region nearby. In the wintertime, cross country trails abound right out your door and Whiteface mountain for alpine skiing is a direct 45 minute drive.
At the Paul Smiths Visitors Center, you can explore gentle hiking trails and learn about the Adirondack region. And be sure to check out the whole wild world of the Adirondacks in Tupper Lake at our Natural History Museum of the Adirondacks, (Also known as 'The Wild Center')
On Sunday, you can ride your bikes or walk to the Chapel bound boat which takes you to non-denominational services at Chapel Island, a short ride/walk away via the Indian Carry Public Access/Fishing path off rte 3, just yards from our driveway.
The state of New York owns almost 80% of our township--called 'Forest Preserve' and has been constitutionally protected for the enjoyment of all of us since 1894. No rampant development allowed. The 'Adirondack Park' is the largest park in the nation outside of Alaska. Indians used to carry their canoes through our land, thus our name, Indian Carry. We have heritage strains of Brook Trout in our ponds and streams that were here before our first natives settled the area.
Your DEPARTURE CLEANING is done for you for the most part--all you need to do is kindly strip one bed and start the first load of laundry for my sweet cleaning lady) and gather all your trash to the garage bin.
All linens are provided, but again, please do bring your personal BEACH towels.
Come enjoy the Healing Woods - Secluded, yet very convenient to all amenities...23 minutes to our Olympic village of Lake Placid, 15 minutes to Saranac Lake, 8 minutes to Tupper Lake, 2.5 hours to Montreal.

We stayed at this lovely home for 3 days right after Christmas and it was excellent! The home is totally as advertised - beautifully decorated, as quaint and cozy and comfortable as could be. The owner is extremely considerate - had the caretaker have firewood readily handy, driveway and walk plowed of the new fallen snow, house heated and ready for our arrival. It was a real treat to stay here and we would definitely do so again.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway, sightseeing.

Very nice house that is secluded, but still a short drive to town. Neighboring houses are out of sight and largely out of hearing. Lake access is a very short walk and the lake itself is quite peaceful. We like to cook and the kitchen accomodated our needs nicely.Recommended for: Romantic getaway, pet owners, families with young children.

My family rented this home for one week in July. I raced Ironman Lake Placid on Sunday. General rental information--- The home was incredible. The photos show a fabulous rustic home, but I did not appreciate its beauty until I stepped in the door. Gardens and natural flowers surround the home. I spent a few hours walking around the property, exploring the woods and nearby meadow. The home is a short drive from town, not inconvenient. The home is tucked back in the woods. No neighbors will disturb you. You can get totally immersed in the natural beauty that surrounds you. The rental included use of kayaks/canoe. The lake is only a short walk, maybe 300 yards, from the house. Tupper Lake is exquisite. There is little boat traffic, so it is calm and peaceful. My girlfriend and I spent the afternoons kayaking and floating. Ironman specific rental information--- The house is about 20 mins from Lake Placid. The distance allowed us to get out of the craziness that Lake Placid becomes during IMLP. But the drive didn't inconvenience me. I still went into town to swim every day b/f raceday. We still went into town for drinks/appetizers a couple times. There is plenty of space, including an office downstairs which housed all my gear--I didn't want family crawling over my stuff. The roads that surround the house are good for bike riding. You could also swim in Tupper Lake if you have some kind of identifying marker. There is very little boat traffic. The water temp was very warm. Overall, our stay was very comfortable. This property exceeded all of our expectations. We were sad to leave. It began to feel like our own home by the time we left. The owners were accommodating from the very first minute. If you plan to do the Ironman, consider this home. It will give you the peace/serenity you need in the days pre-race to focus. It gives you easy access to Lake Placid. The owners are easy going (last thing you want is someone overbearing).Recommended for: People with disabilities, age 55+, families with teenagers, adventure seekers, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway, sightseeing.
Owner response: Thanl you for your wonderful and detailed review Matt! Just one correction, the lake you were on is not Tupper, but the Upper Saranac Lake.

About the owner: I live in Aspen, Colorado during the winter and spend the summers managing this beautiful home. Sometimes my beautiful son, Bennett takes my stead, there as a knowledgeable onsite concierge/guide for your needs. I warmly welcome you to create your fond memories in the 'Healing Woods' this summer...
Why the Owner Chose Saranac Lake:
It was geographically close to my parents who needed my care.
The Unique Benefits at this House:
Listening to the first signs of warmth-the spring peepers, the frogs mating in the pond, the beautiful song of the Wood Thrush in Summer, the wild blueberries in August, the calm, clean tranquility of the lakes, a kayak cruise at dusk with musical calls of the loons...you can find genuine quiet amidst all the recreational options here.
