This beautiful country home offers year-round vacation fun. Summer- Trailer your boat or jetskis to the public launch on crystal-clear Spofford Lake and enjoy the water activities, and cookout or picnic at the public beach. The lake features excellent fishing, and a rope swing and places to anchor on Ft. Pierce island. Kayaks or a canoe can be rowed for hours on the lake for a quieter experience.
A 15-40 minute drive will get you to one of several scenic & historic hiking locations of various skill levels, including Mt Monadnock, the most hiked mountain in the country. For less strenuous walks, simply enjoy the nearby country roads.
Enjoy the great yard to unwind and play lawn games or volleyball. Cook on the BBQ and finish up with a campfire and s'mores. The grounds are a great place for birdwatching as well-the perennial gardens attract many species and it is not unusual to see hummingbirds flitting about. Observe a passing thunderstorm, admire the beautiful fall colors, or enjoy a glass of champagne in the hot tub, all from the spacious front porch.
Use the house as a base to explore the many nearby diversions in Keene & Brattleboro. Seasonally, you will find fireworks displays, car & motocross racing, county fairs, gallery walks, wine & beer festivals, live entertainment at the Colonial theater and outdoor venues, as well as the Keene pumpkin festival. During the fall, enjoy the classic New England foliage any number of ways. Hike, drive, horseback ride, motorcycle or get a birds-eye view on a sight-seeing flight from the Keene airport. There are many choices for pick-your-own farms & orchards. Winter sports are all available locally, with major ski resorts within 35 miles.
The house itself is a lovingly furnished backdrop to all these activites. The large, country kitchen seats 10 for dinner, with an additional 5 bar stools in close proximity. It is a perfect place for lengthy dinners, conversations, and board games. The family room and sunroom share a double fireplace and the many windows make them an inviting place to curl up with a book or music and relax, whatever the weather. The bedrooms are comfy, country furnished rooms, where you are sure to get a good night's sleep. There are three private rooms, the master featuring a California king size bed and private bath. Both other bedrooms have queen beds. The third bedroom is our 'family suite' with a staircase to the loft, where there are two double beds. One warning-there are no TVs in the bedrooms. The downstairs rec room is a cozy and relaxing place to hang out, with it's own fireplace, card/game table, 52 inch TV, DVD player, WII game box and dart board. The rec room has it's own full bath, and a queen size futon & pull-out sofa, for an additional sleeping area. Besides the obvious choice for family vacations and weekend getaways, this home would be ideal for family or college reunions or to celebrate an anniversary or other special occasion.

What a lovely home! We were so thrilled to stay here for our skiing vacation ... plenty of room for the kids and friends (the loft bedroom was a big hit with our girls!) The location was perfect! (Easy drive to several ski areas - we were at Stratton in VT- and convenient to I-91) The decor is relaxing and comfortable, and just begs you to gather around the huge fireplace at the end of a winter outing ... or the hot tub, which was equally great! Having every ammenity we could have needed meant more time to relax and gather with friends. Thanks for a terrific stay! We will be back!!Recommended for: Romantic getaway, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway.

We were very lucky to secure this wonderful home for a family wedding in the district. 10 of us travelled from Australia to this destination which provided a lovely retreat. The house is tastefully furnished & very comfortable. The outside porch, rocking chairs and spa just added to the overall experience. All mod cons were available which made relaxing & entertaining very easy.Recommended for: Age 55+, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, girls getaway, sightseeing.

We had a great time away from the city at this beautiful country home. Mountain peaks surround the house and the views are breath-taking. The house is situated on a hill, surrounded by fields which are populated by birdhouses and invite various forms of wildlife (deer, wild-turkey, etc). We ended every night in the whirlpool under the starry New England sky. The home is clean and the interior decor is tasteful. The grounds were well-maintained and the house is only a short drive from the beautiful Spofford Lake, which is a must see. We had many questions, all of which the owners were happy to answer. Well worth the price!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway, sightseeing.

About the owner: We have been vacationing in the area for over 20 years, and previously owned a cottage on nearby Spofford Lake. Our dream was to buy a property with acreage, and enjoy the benefits of country living. We love to entertain here, and have created a warm and welcoming home that we delight in sharing with others. We are happy to advise you on local activities and make recommendations to make your stay a memorable experience.
Why the Owner Chose Westmoreland:
We love this area of NH for many reasons, starting with easy access from the highway. Southern NH provides visitors with a lifestyle much different than the hustle and bustle of the city, without the inconvenient travel. Nearby Spofford Lake has been rated one of the cleanest in NH, and provides a variety of water sports & beach activites. Proximity to local trails and a 5 minute drive to the largest state park in NH are other benefits of our location.
The Unique Benefits at this Chateau / Country House:
Half-way between Keene, NH & Brattleboro, VT, we are perfectly situated to enjoy the activities offered by both areas. Local farmer's markets provide an abundance of fresh & unusual produce for family dinners, while ecclectic restaurants in both Keene & Brattleboro offer interesting dining choices for every palate. Antiquing in quaint New England towns, visiting local wineries, breweries, shops, and farmstands provide a contrast to the many excercise-based outdoor activites.
