At night roast some marshmallows on a campfire. Want activity? Take a hike or go for a bike ride in the lush Green Mountains of Vermont. You are right on a scenic road that winds along a string of lakes. Or go for a refreshing swim, fish or paddle about on the lake at your doorstep. On a rainy day play some ping-pong in the game room.
Feel like a day trip - head for the summer activities at Okemo, Pico, Killington Mountain Resort, Weston Theater, whoosh down the alpine slide or savor the freshly made ice cream at Ben & Jerry’s Ice Cream factory. Shopping is just minutes away also golf, tennis, .... Lots of fun activities for young - old and anywhere in between. Or Just Relax!!!
Athletic activities:: See whether you can swim across 'your' lake, hike in the State forest, the Appalachian trail or the Long Trail, plan a little bike trip along the chain of lakes, play tennis on the public tennis court, or play golf on the nearby course, which is only 2 miles away. Take a stroll along the Buttermilk waterfalls, 2 miles away.
To enjoy the lake, launch the small rowboat or the canoe from the wooden dock for a little trip across the lake or to the Black River. If you are good in fishing, you might even pull up your supper.
Kids activities: Let the kids paddle in 'your' little boat to the 'sugarhouse' at the lake (maple syrup producer and gift store) two houses down to shop for some (inexpensive) old fashioned candy. They will love to whoosh down the waterslide in Pico, or spoil them with a trip to the famous Vermont Ben and Jerry ice cream factory, You as well as the kids will be impressed with the birthplace of President Coolidge, where you can also visit a Vermont cheese factory.
Shopping and small trips: Shopping is only minutes away in the quaint typical Vermont town of Ludlow, which has a supermarket, drugstore, hardware store, etc. and a variety of nice restaurants. For fashionable shopping take a little trip to Woodstock. Enjoy a hearty lunch and Vermont beer right next to a murmuring mountain stream in the brewery nearby. For some 'culture', the Weston Summer Theater is in easy reach.

We spent a wonderful, relaxing week at Ursula's house. The house is stocked with everything you need to enjoy the lake (kayak, canoe, etc..). We spent the majority of our time swimming, fishing, kayaking, and just hanging out in the backyard. There are several charming towns to visit if you want to take a day trip. I highly recommend B&B pancake house for breakfast- their blueberry pancakes are delicious! We will be back!Recommended for: Sightseeing, people with disabilities, girls getaway, families with young children, pet owners, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with teenagers.
Owner response: When you come, check our guest book. Some guests have left some good recommendations.

We had a great time at this home. It was clean and very comfortable. The children kept so busy swimming and boating they didn't even miss their computers ! The area is beautiful and there are lots of shops to visit. The Hugging Bear in Chester is a must see ! The owner was very nice to deal with and the listing was accurate. We would book this spot again.Recommended for: Sightseeing, girls getaway, families with young children, pet owners, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with teenagers.

Our family had a great time here. This was our second year staying at Ursula's home, and we enjoyed ourselves just as much as we did the first year. The home is located in a quiet area, but is still a short drive away from incredible restaurants, shopping centers, and the supermarket. The lake is beautiful and much larger than the picture shows -- great for exploring with one of the boats provided at the dock. The lake is also equally clean as it is beautiful, making a swim with the kids and dog very enjoyable. The home itself is cozy and clean, with everything you would need for a week's stay and more. All in all, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay, and we look forward to visiting again. Thanks, Ursula!Recommended for: Families with young children, pet owners, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with teenagers.
Owner response: It is nice to see people come back.

A great time was had by all on our recent Gentlemen's weekend! Ursula (property owner) was extremely helpful and well organized. She had many great suggestions and the ones we chose were right on the money (I suggest a stop at the Long Trail Brewery, real good food and some great beers). Leading up to our trip Ursula was always available and answered all questions immediately. The property was equipped with everything you need (linens, pillows, lawn chairs, grill, cookware, etc..)for a worry free trip. We had a nice choice of golf courses, multiple lakes connected together to make for a great ride in the canoe and some very nice places to jump in for a swim. Overall I couldn't have asked for anything more... except vacation time!Recommended for: Sightseeing, girls getaway, families with young children, adventure seekers, romantic getaway, families with teenagers.

First of all, owner Ursula Middel was a delight to work with - honest, efficient and prompt in her responses. Her home is modern, sunny and well-appointed and has all necessary amenities. Lake Pauline (pictured) is much larger than it appears in the picture and is connected by the Black River with two other, larger lakes. The small, circular dam between Lake Pauline and the adjoining Lake Rescue is quite interesting, if not unique. The surrounding southern Vermont countryside, including Green Mountain National Forest is quite beautiful. Calvin Coolidge's Homestead in nearby Plymouth did not seem like a very interesting prospect to all of us initially, but we soon all found ourselves entranced by the trip back in time to Nineteenth Century Vermont that it affords, and in the end we regretted that we had to leave. There are many good restaurants in neighboring Ludlow.Recommended for: Sightseeing, families with young children, pet owners, adventure seekers, romantic getaway, age 55+.
