As frequent visitors to Italy and having stayed in Spello previously and loved it, my husband and I were delighted to return .This apartment has potential but needs some improvements.. We enjoyed the antiquity of the building and the spacious terrace. The apartment which was described as "on the town piazza" is actually below it. Be aware that there are many steps (well over 50) up to the town square. We found the furnishings to be just adequate. There was no couch to sit on to read for example, no ceiling lighting except in the kitchen. There were two chairs with no lighting and no side tables, so settling in for an evening of reading which we enjoy occasionally when we are traveling for extended periods, was not a good option. The terrace would be greatly improved with the addition of a couple of chairs (there were only two) in case you might want to invite visitors for a glass of wine. When we rent an apartment we are hoping to have some meals at home. The kitchen which had good appliances and assorted pots had only one warped 6 inch frying pan which was dangerous to use because it tipped over, and no pans at all for cooking in the oven. We did manage to borrow a tin foil pan for heating food in the oven. The linens were quite "tired" and certainly not "lovely" as described in one review. The armoire door made such a loud noise on opening that we used only one side and there was no chest of drawers for clothing. With only a small investment to upgrade the items mentioned, this apartment would become a comfortable as well as interesting place to stay.Recommended for: Sightseeing.
Owner response: I'm glad to receive advice to improve the quality of the apartment and the comfort of the guests, but many of the things written in this review are not true. In the description is written many times that the apartment is 1 minute walking from the main square and not "on the town square", there is also a map that clearly indicates the location and 1 minute is the time actually needed to reach the square following a pedestrian street with large steps. It is not possibile to install a lighting on the 400 years old brick ceiling without damaging it and there are three lightings on the wall, also in the kitchen, it is not true that there there is a ceiling lighting! As shown in the pictures there is not a couch but two red charmchairs and two sidetables with lighting are close to the bed and are easy to move them. If they had looked better in the kitchen they would find also the smaller frying pan and the pan for the oven. On the terrace there are only two chairs but other four chairs are in the apartment, enough to invite visitors for a glass of wine. Maybe that the armoire door make a noise, it is over 100 years old, but it is incredible that it was so loud that it was not possible to open the door. In the bottom there is a drawer for clothing large as the two armoire doors and 25 centimeters high, it is impossible not to see it! They told me that the previous time in Spello they were in a five-stars hotel, but that's another thing and the price they paid for a week in my apartment is the price for a night in that hotel and it is not possible to expect the same conveniences.

This is a very comfortable and well equipped apartment in a lovely hill town. Both the apartment and large terrace have tremendous views over the Umbrian hills. Free parking is available close by. Cases can easily be wheeled up the short cobblestone street to the apartment. Food, wine, post and ATMs are only a short walk away, as are some very good restaurants. Roberto was very helpful and quick to respond to any contact. We found Spello the perfect spot from which to explore Umbria by car and this the perfect apartment to stay in.Recommended for: Age 55+, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

What a great terrace! We played backgammon and drank wine looking out over the lush Umbrian countryside. The table, chairs and umbrella allowed us to enjoy the terrace in comfort. Inside is small but very comfortable and clean, perfect for two. The vaulted brick ceiling was very cool to look at and kept the temperature very comfortable even on hot days. The bed was comfortable, with tables and reading lights on both sides (thanks!). The bathroom was small, but very clean and designed well. The kitchen had everything needed to cook meals, even some spices, vinegar and oil. The town is clean and charming. The path along the Roman aqueduct is not too challenging and very fun and beautiful. We travel without a car and the walk to town from the train station takes maybe 7-10 minutes, some uphill, which was not a problem. The little grocery store is only a minute away and was well stocked, including fresh fruit and vegetables, meat, cheese, bread and wine.Recommended for: Romantic getaway, adventure seekers, tourists without a car, sightseeing.

Terrific studio apartment for two. Laid out nicely so you don't feel like you are on top of each other. Huge terrace with a great view. The location was very nice - easy for us to get the car in and out but right on the edge of the historic center. lots of free parking right by the apartment. Our host was very prompt and gracious. Nice little kitchen - we actually cooked a meal here - first time in Italy. Great dinner at "Drinking Wine" - awful name but great restaurantRecommended for: Age 55+, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

All the quaint beauty of Spello is right at your fingertips. The views off the terrace and from the dining table in this cozy studio are first class. Under the umbrella overlooking the valley with a glass of wine, it's easy to meld with the scenery, the local color and the friendly residents of this historic and beautiful hill town. Although we used this as a "home base" for five weeks of excursions to more well known tourist stops, we really were most comfortable and happy just spending time in Spello. There wasn't anything we needed that wasn't provided in this charming studio apartment. The king sized bed was quite comfortable with lovely linens and the antique armoire provided ample space for hanging clothes. It is so quiet there yet it's right in the middle of all that Spello has to offer. Don't miss the Roman Aquaduct walk to Collepino!Recommended for: Age 55+, romantic getaway, adventure seekers, tourists without a car, sightseeing.
