Sea-side, volcano-view, rice-paddies, serene, private, beach, unique, romantic

Nestled where two fresh-water rivers run into the Lembok Straights of the Indian Ocean, Our villa was selected as ARCHITECTURAL DIGEST's lead feature in the 'Exotic Homes Edition' in August 2009 for its unique design, luxurious appointments and magnificent setting. Designed by Linda Garland, built by a team of Sumatran master carpenters, the owners spared no expense in making the home environmentally friendly( built with all re-cycled wood) and seamlessly integrated into the natural setting.

In front lies the ocean and behind towers Bali's main 12,000 foot volcano, Mt. Agung, the 'sacred mother of Bali.' To the north over the terraced rice fields is the Seraya mountain range whose cooling breezes blow in most nights. Thus the property is a 360 degree experience.

The villa is actually six villas organized at the ocean's edge with 2500 square foot long house which serves as the living room/dining room house for the villas.

Villa Lumbung is based on a Sumatran rice barn design and houses one king-sized bed and its own full bathroom.

The villa is come with the friendly staff of ten people: two cooks, three house caretakers, three gardners and two night security men there all day to meet your every need, cleaning, and providing a delicious breakfast provided in the price of the villa. Lunch and dinner can be arranged for an additional amount. They are all smiles and will climb the many cocoanut trees to give you some 'ayer kalapa muda,' young cocoanut milk, or fresh-sqeezed orange juice, Bintang beer or sodas all day.

There are surf breaks nearby and surf guides can be arranged by the staff and are recommended to insure happy integration into the line-up. The local break, Pura Delam, can generate waves from two-feet to double overhead depending on the season and the swells. You can see the break from the living room/dining room house to tell what the swell is doing. It's a five minute drive away.

There is snorkeling right out front for lobster and sea life observation and excellent diving all over the area including wreck diving in nearby Tabanan. Bali is a haven for all water sports.

Facials and massages can be had at your villa with notice to the staff and are highly recommended and inexpensive. Also, recommended is to hire a car and driver by the week so that your freedom of movement is assured. It is NOT recommended to drive in Bali as the traffic behavior is quite wild and unpredictable. Cars and drivers are also very reasonable in cost and can be arranged before or after you hit the island.

We can arrange pick you up at Denpensar Airport and drive you the 1 1/2 hours to Villa Lunbung where your smiling staff will greet you warmly and show you to your rooms.

A ten-minute drive away is a often deserted white sand beach (Pasir Putih) about a half-mile long with lovely swimming and a few warungs serving fresh seafood and cold drinks right on the sand. Massages and crafts are also available.

East Bali may be the last refuge of the true Balinese Culture where festivals, temple ceremonies, and rice farming abound as they have done for centuries. Women in sarongs carrying temple offerings on their heads along bamboo-lined back roads are sights that will linger in one's mind long after you are back home. Many villages in the area are craft-oriented specializing in silver jewelry, weaving, ikat, fishing, and baskets, all ready to be explored.

Many local restaurants abound and both the luxurious Alila Hotel and Aman Kila Hotels are located within 45 minutes and have a number of fine, gourmet restaurants should you want a change of dining pace.

Most of all, we offer a chance at renewal, re-invigoration, romance, and recreation in uncommon amounts. Though the journey there may be long, upon arriving only the power of the destination will remain as you have successfully traveled into another world.

My husband and I spent 7 wonderful days at Villa Campuhan and were treated like the King and Queen. We stayed in the very cute Villa Lumbung and were fortunate to have the entire property to ourselves during our stay and the undivided attention of the 10 staff. The trip from the airport to the property took about 2 hours .... it is in the eastern part of Bali, away from "tourists behaving badly" and afforded us what we believe was a true Balinese experience. This property is stunningly beautiful, even more so than advertised. The pool area and communal dining/relaxing building are no exception and all buildings are an architectural marvel and so very pleasing on the eye. The surf break out front of the pool was brilliant but not safe for swimming (strong currents). This was of no concern to us as we enjoyed the ocean view from the pool. Overall, a wonderful experience. Barbara was a dream to deal with and we thank her sincerely for giving us the opportunity to share her unique property.

I have traveled all over the south Pacific looking for this exact experience and I finally found it at Villa Campuan. Growing up in a landlocked state, I would pass time in school by drawing pictures of thatch huts by the ocean. It is as if those pictures came to life when I stepped onto your property. It was very special to me and I'll always remember that first look. We loved the size of Villa Lumbung and it was prepared beautifully for our arrival. Everything was clean, comfortable and secure. We were the only ones there (an experience I'm sure will not happen for many more people) and the staff was so sweet, attentive and hardworking. They would do all their little tasks and then come and ask us what we needed. Of course we had everything we needed just with the views alone! We also got to take a tour of the larger Villa and it is equally impressive. The hot tub and his/hers bathrooms were beyond luxurious. Unfortunately, we only had two days on our trip but we took full advantage of the beautiful pools, the massage table and the wonderful meals. Penny was a fantastic host and we look forward to visiting her restaurant on our next visit - oh yes, we're already saving our nickels and dimes for a return trip. You have a property/experience on your hands that is about to blow up (in a good way) and I'm so thankful that we got to be among the first to experience it. I could sit in that longhouse all day. It was just magnificent listening to the power of those waves and rubbing my feet against the smooth wood floor. Your collection of figures, not only in the longhouse but in the Villas, blew us away. The only drawback with the whole experience is no sandy beach but I know that can be found nearby and who really needs it with the infinity pools right by the water?! Those looking for a romanticized south seas experience from centuries gone by need look no further than Villa Campuan. Surfers and divers will freak, architecture buffs will gawk and I cannot imagine a more romantic place to spend a honeymoon. I want to thank you, again, for creating my heaven and opening your home to guests. They were two of the best days of my life and I'm not exaggerating. I'll reluctantly help you spread the word - even though I want to be selfish and keep the uniqueness all to myself! :) Seriously though, I will tell everyone I come in contact with why they need to drop everything and go stay at your place as long as they can. Peace, Love and Arak, Patrick

We loved Bali Villa Lumbung, the outlay of the villa was perfect, you could not have wanted for anything. Beautiful well maintained gardens, full of tropical blooms, birds & butterflies. The restaurant - room service was excellent, as we could choose to have lunch ,breakfast or dinner by the  swimming pool, in the terraces . food was reasonably priced & beautiful. The housekeepers & pool people were respectful of our privacy & arranged times to come, very nice and polite. We had a wonderful stay & thank you very much.
