This was an idyllic place to have a holiday. There were no human sounds at all, just the sounds of nature. Tree frogs, crickets, chipmunks, ducks, geese, and oh, the birds!! There was also the sound of fish surfacing to eat flies from the surface of the lake. What a shame that the season was not yet open for fishing on that lake. There was also a doe on the other side of the lake, and one night as I was eating dinner, a big fat beaver took a swim across the lake exactly in front of me. The cabin was wonderful, very well furnished and the kitchen stocked with everything one could possibly need for any kind of a meal. I used the B.B.Q. every night. Wayne, the wild leeks were so delicious and the wild grape jam was amazing, thank you so much for everything. A truly relaxing and spirit raising vacation. I wish I could have stayed longer.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, girls getaway.
Owner response: Karon, Sounds like you were really able to connect with nature and your surroundings. As we both know, spending time alone at Claypack Lake/Cabin can be very refreshing for one's soul. This time of year the fish are spawning, so the lake becomes alive with fish activity. If you come back during bass fishing season, I promise that you'll catch a lunker! Thank you for leaving the cabin the way that you found it. I hope that you can return the next time that you need to "decompress".

This is a fantastic getaway spot! A great time had by all! The journey into the cabin is stunning and an adventure in its own right. You are literally traveling through the forest and there is nothing around but the beautiful wilderness. The road in is very well maintained and cleared of snow regularly. When you arrive at the cabin you will find it to be perfectly picturesque. Nestled among the tree's and overlooking Claypack Lake, it's placement is well thought out and it affords great views of the lake and the hills surrounding it. The cabin is well appointed and tastefully decorated in a stylishly rustic manner. The furniture is very comfortable and the kitchen is well equipped. There is a handsome woods stove and lots of seasoned firewood to keep it warm and cozy. The cabin does not have a bathroom inside but there is a heated outhouse and it's nice and clean-also easy to get to day and night. The sauna/shower building is a great treat! A nice place to sit back and feel the stress melt away. This space is also very clean and the smell of the cedar is fantastic. There are trails throughout the property-lots of space to enjoy walking, hiking and snowshoeing. Make sure to bring the camera, this place is a photographer's delight! All in all, if you are looking for a getaway-I would definitely recommend this one. A great place to get back to center and rejuvenate the soul. Wayne is great to deal with and he provides you with all the information you need to know about the property. The literature is easy to understand and it clearly explains operating procedures so you can enjoy the cabin with confidence. A truly great time and very much looking forward to enjoying it again in the future! Owner response: Jeff I am glad that you and your friends were able to enjoy many of the wonderful attributes that my unique cabin, lake and property have to offer. It's always nice to know when others feel the same way about Claypack Lake as I do. It would be my pleasure to host you again when nature beckons. Wayne Krangle

Upon our arrival, I stood on the neck and listened to the loons calling out as the sun set over the lake, and I thought, "If this is what Heaven is like, I'm ready to die right now." The property is perfection, from the well-kept cabin appointed with everything we needed for cooking to the decor of the cabin and the quality of the furniture. Wayne, the owner, was extremely helpful in orienting us to using his property, and his high standard of home ownership is evident in every aspect of the property. Boating on the lake brought us close to beaver dams, red-winged blackbirds, loons, and turtles. As we dove off the swimming dock, we couldn't help but think of the movie "On Golden Pond". We were honored to have a nightly lullaby sung to us each night by the loons. We appreciated the cabin's feeling of being a million miles from civilization while in reality it was a short drive to West Guilford and Halliburton. We visited the Halliburton Forest and got to visit a wolf sanctuary and see wolves close up as well as learn quite a bit about their species and its trials and tribulations as civilization closes in upon them. We were loath to leave this lovely cabin after a short 3 days, and are praying we can return some day. It would be worth the 5 hour flight from San Francisco to spend more time there! Many thanks to Wayne for sharing his lovely spot with us. Linda & LloydRecommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, pet owners, romantic getaway.

Just a quick note to say thanks so much for putting your cottage in the silent auction. We had a terrific time. It's wonderful that the place is so remote and yet just 20 minutes from home-I went "out" twice to attend meetings and then went right back in. Fabulous! Tony covered all your trails by ATV and didn't get stuck anywhere. I went out on it myself, camera in hand, but didn't get much further than the beaver pond, frogs and mushrooms. The mushrooms were brilliant (to photograph), not to eat)! The two-tier beaver pond at the head of the lake is fabulous and I took some good photos of it from the path side. Is that heronry active in the spring? If so, I'd love to go in when they're nesting to get some photos. So thanks again. It was wonderful to get away. We didn't break anything and washed, scrubbed and mopped our way out the door, so hopefully we left the cabin in acceptable condition. Say hello and thanks to Jane, too. Kindly, Carol & TonyRecommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, pet owners, romantic getaway, girls getaway.
Owner response: Carol and Tony, Thank you for your comments. It is worth mentioning that you have been to Claypack twice, since you liked it so much the first time. Regards, Wayne

Hi Wayne! Thank you to you and Jane for allowing us to experience a cottage retreat like no other. And... Thank you for spending the time to walk us through Claypack and especially for being patient waiting for us as we were late arriving! Just wanted to drop a line before the city takes a hold of me completely...;) ...luckily we have some great photos to remind us of the supreme time we spent up at your cottage on Claypack almost a month ago! The sights, sounds, smells of the trails, fishing, bonfires, tanning and the list goes on and on were top shelf! The venison and syrup were both deeeelishous and so generous of you to offer! It was a bonus to our stay. What can we say, we all agreed that the week exceeded our expectations and we hope to keep in touch for future possible maple tapping trips or renting again next summer! Best Regards, EuniceRecommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, pet owners, romantic getaway, girls getaway.
Owner response: Kim and Friends, It was my pleasure to have you as guests. Please let me know the next time you need to break away from the city, you are always welcome. Wayne

Owner info
Year Purchased: 2007
About the owner: I love to play in the outdoors. My favourite activities include hiking, mtn. biking, kayaking, canoeing, fishing, snowshoeing, bird watching, trail riding and making maple syrup. all of which I do on this property. I am 60 and sell real estate in Haliburton. Finding the perfect getaway for my clients is very satisfying to me. You can see more of my profile at urbancottager dot com.
Why the Owner Chose Haliburton:
My connection with the Haliburton Highlands goes back 50 years. I went to several summer camps as a child in this area, and fell in love with the lakes and forests. This was fostered by many canoe trips throughout the area. This property is very special to me, as it affords one all the benefits gained from undisturbed wilderness, while maintaining most creature comforts. There are no interruptions from neighbours. You will not hear jet skiis going by, or any other loud annoying activities. Just
the call of the loon along with the calls of countless other species of birds and
animals.
Although the cabin and lake are secluded, you are only 10 minutes from the village of
West Guilford which includes groceries and liquor stores, and 15 minutes from the
town of Haliburton, which has all the amenities one could need. This includes a state of the art hospital for emergencies.
The Unique Benefits at this Cottage:
Watching Mother Nature without any interruptions.
Living in a Cabin constructed out of, trees from the property. This all wood sustainable construction feels ecologically sound and healthy.
Listening for and sighting exotic species of birds, and viewing wild game animals in their natural habitats.
Fishing on my own lake, and never getting
'skunked' (catch and release please).
Snowshoeing, and breaking trail up to the lookout, where you can get a view of 3 lakes from one spot.
ATVing and snowmobiling on my own trails.
Making my own Maple Syrup.
Watching for the annual return of the great blue herons at our heron rookery.
Taking a sauna in one of the best saunas I
have experienced, and then rinsing off in the outdoor shower, (hot and cold water).
Canoeing and portaging to the next chain of lakes.
Knowing that I am the custodian of this wonderful place for generations to come.
