Looking for something different nothing like a adventure on Dog Island
Newly renovated Dog Island, old Florida, quiet peaceful, best beach and water, unspoiled, a nature lovers delight. Looking for an adventure? Look no further than Dog Island. This property has beautiful, white-sand beaches right at your doorstep. It has 3 bedrooms, 2 baths and sleeps 6. Island has airstrip and boat landing.
(Allergy free house, no pets.)
Step back in time, with the Pirate Billy Bowlegs, go and see Dog Island Reef. Fish from the surf in front and catch dinner. No other place on earth like Dog Island. This may be the last remnant of unspoiled, old rustic barrier Florida Island left. Dog Island is a fragile barrier island located 3 miles off the coast of Carabelle, Florida(one hour from Tallahassee). About half of the island is protected by The Nature Conservancy. Dog Island is nationally renowned as a bird sanctuary and habitat for nesting sea turtles. The island has fire and emergency medical services but,
No stores! You bring all of your food!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Or Catch it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
For star gazers, the night sky is magnificent, especially with no city lights to diminish your view. If you're a beach walker, there are sea shells everywhere. Nice sandy white wide beaches to walk. You can walk all around the 6 mile island; if you're a bird lover, expect to see eagles, osprey, brown pelicans & terns among the 300 identified species.
Since no bridge connects Dog Island to Carabelle, you leave your vehicle in the Dog Island ferry parking lot and charter the Ferry to and from the island. Charter service is available for about $70 each way for a group of 6 people or less. Upon arrival at the island, our truck is available to you for transportation to the house and back to the dock.
We rent the house from Friday-Friday or Sunday-Sunday. Occasionally we rent for a shorter amount of time. You are expected to clean the house upon leaving or we can have someone go over to clean for $125.00. Not that easy on a barrier island to have someone go over an clean.

The only way to describe our trip to Dog Island is beautiful, relaxing, and serene. The island is so laid back and many refer to it as "on dog island time". The house is the nicest on the beach, clean and well stocked. Al and Tom take good care of you and make sure you have everything you need. There were only about 5-6 other families that we saw on the island the whole time we were there. We took food for most of our meals but relyed on catching our dinner a few nights. We went fishing with Captain Robin and caught Spanish Mackerel, Speckled Trout, and Redfish. My husband also caught a spec and some reds on the bayside. We enjoyed many meals from the gulf and could have taken less food. One of our favorite activites to do was to walk the beach in the mornings and look for shells. We found sand dollars, starfish, and tons of beautiful shells you can't find anywhere. During our morning walks, we would cross over to the bay side. You could see tons of stingray in the mornings. There are also tons of hermit crabs and blue crabs on the bay side. We feasted on blue crabs one afternoon. We hope to be back to Dog Island soon and plan on making it a family tradition for years to come.Recommended for: Girls getaway, sightseeing, age 55+, tourists without a car, adventure seekers, romantic getaway.
Owner response: Thank you for your kind words. Dog Island is a special place. You and your family are always welcome in our beach home. Al Tom and Mary Anne
